Dravid...i am with you...

shared by straight point on Thursday, May 22, 2008

at the outset this blogger wants to state that he is not talking about dravid the BRC Captain...who he thinks is a failure...

its the dravid the player i am talking about...

who is the last man standing for BRC...standing alone in the debris of some royals...with his hand firmly up and still counting...

he has scored 330 odd runs in his 12 outings so far with strike rate of 126 at the average of 30!

not bad...infact good...

if you consider that wickets keep falling around him like nine pins...he has not got much support one requires at other hand...

that too...under resolutely relentless pressure from almost all quarters and specially consistent glare from media...

some of his own creations but mostly not...

as if some force is hell bent on singling him out...as if it gives, that force, extra pleasure...

still he has done far better job than most without even blinking...certainly more than some celebrity specialist T20 players like yuvrajs, uthapas etc. to highlight the point...

and they are from winning teams...

what more he can do now so that people accept him as viable T20 player?

some players are cursed to stand the scrutiny of their endeavors for life...some get away with murders...

may be his fate was decided when he was famously named 'the wall'...

and we all know...what many of us do with wall...

but does he really deserve all this...is it so difficult to give him peace of support...the feeling of being wanted...cant we even give some 'space' he deserve...more than anybody...?

and more importantly cant we just enjoy his last couple of years...?

my heart goes for him...and i really wonder sometimes...

what heals dravid...?

take your call...isn't it time to say 'I'...?

PS: and no soulberry, my adopted team is RRC...(he knows what i am talking about)...

sp, absolute cracker of a write! Funny, but RD's been in my mind too - today, when i read the front page, it said Rainfall Delhi -and i read it as Rahul Dravid. Jokes apart.

Those lines about what we do with the Wall were brilliant.

For me, RD and Sehwag are far too similar, low profiled, uncool, and they pay the price for that.

As Dravid's still yr man, i'll link u on to a few by mine.
cheers!

drvaid is good player...but bad selector man...look at the player they got for team....all test player....jaffer,kallis....etc...bowling is good with zaheer,kumble,steyn....batting dravid thought they might change the 20/20 to 90/90......lol

i hope he doesnt become selector in the future....he doesnt have good cricketing brain for selecting players.....

but i agree with you...he isonly good player in their team...rest are useless for 20/20.

GOOD POINT-SP. HE IS ALONE AT THE MOMENT AND REALLY DOING HIS BEST AS EVER. HIS BAD LUCK WAS THERE WHEN HIS TEAM MATES WERE SELECTED.

thanks KP! after long time...

exaclt SA...though not sure about luck part in selection...

Simply sidesplitting...

Straight point, I entirely acquiesce with you in this:
standing alone in the debris of some royals...with his hand firmly up and still counting...

DRAVID:
Good cricketer: YES
Good selector: NO NO NO...

warm welcome and thanks for droppng by smarty...

yes, its dravid the player for which i am standing and still counting ;-)

No doubt as a player he is good, but he will never get the job of a selector in BCCI.

Bravo! Beautifully said, SP. You've inspired me to write another RD special.

Btw, "my heart goes for him [...]what heals dravid...?"
My heart goes out to him, too. God bless RD!

NC, lovely write-up by you too.

Allow me to share my gushing on RD from a few months ago:

Cheers!

I started feeling bad for RD since the day Mallya started saying things about him in the media. Dravid has probably been the most underrated Indian Player. He has saved a hell lot of matches for India. And he wud have done the same for BRC if he had got some sort of support from his team. His reaction when his team won against CSK said it all. Hope someday RD is given due respect.

It's almost a cottage industry to criticise Dravid but here you have a player who never have given less than 100 percent. Gavaskar said when Dravid walks out in the middle, he could see a tri-colour fluttering there. I think that best sums up Dravid. I don't wink at his flaws. I believe obstinacy has been his bane. I think he took it too seriously and forgot to relax. Every outing looked like a matter of life and death. But how can I deny that he is arguably the best Test batsman we ever produced? And in a format where he was expected to come a cropper, Dravid has more than salvaged his pride!

thanks VM!

nice to learn that this has inspired you for a post...

your article too is topical even today and thats dravid for all of us...

straight point said...

tri...

he will be given due respect for sure...

something tells me that all this drama has fired him like never before and we are going to see some epics from him in not so distant future...

straight point said...

you summed it up very well for all of us SOM!!

thats why i wonder...what heals him?

Good one SP... unfortunately, his selection fiasco has deflected all the attention.

straight point said...

yup..it seem so scorpy...

You know SP, The Wall stood up...we know him as The Wall in a different context, but Dravs showed...no matter what the context, a wall is always to protect....to shore up.

He has been the most impressive oldie for me in IPL.

straight point said...

indeed SB!!

that the future of indian cricket has scored only 7 runs more than him should put the matter in right prospective...

Dravid is always under no good criticism....he does his role...people...

I think people expect him to be some thing he cant be....he can only be Rahul Dravid and not a captain like Shane Warne, a spotlight like Tendulkar....

He is the modest Rahul Dravid and he is a good man at that....I would want him to be anything else....he is in my 1-day as well as Test Dream team....any day....any time...no second thoughts...

straight point said...

i flly concur with you UTP!!

great that you have started your own website...keep'em coming!

Soulberry said...

Hey SP...where were you yesterday?

Think RR can take on a charged-up MI? Or will Warney do a favor to old friend Sachin?

straight point said...

i was having mine SB!!

if i read warne right he will repay his old debt with interest to old friend sachin...

Gaurav Sethi said...

yr take on some of the umpiring non-decisions MI vs 3D, Sanath and Smith lbws.

straight point said...

NC

without pointing fingres on particular incidents or decisions...i would say umpiring has been not of international standard...infact poor...and specially indian umpires have shown that they are miles behind of any standard...

as if they are hell bent on showing their 'class'...

Anonymous said...

the money has gone to everybody's head...including the umpires...but there have been some finds like Sean Marsh and revalidations like Gambhir...he has come a long way...

Gaurav Sethi said...

appears dravid too is with himself. finally. and what if he beats mi after dc beats csk

straight point said...

yes UTP...money indeed has gone into some minds...but no worry...they will get sorted out next season for sure...

straight point said...

what a win by RRC yesterday...MIs are getting closer and closer by day to be crowned chockers tag...

and BRC win over them will be icing on cake...
