the responsibility is mutual...

shared by straight point on Wednesday, August 19, 2009

If Rahul is back because he plays the short balls well, it is a matter of great concern for Indian cricket," he told Daily News & Analysis. "It means the youngsters cannot play the short balls. This decision means the cupboard is empty. If the youngsters are not technically equipped to play the short ball, then they should be sent to the National Cricket Academy. But I have my doubts.

this is what dilip vengsarkar...former chairman of selectors...said on dravid's recall to team india odi squad...

i share colonel's concern and its really a serious matter if this is the reason...but i would like to ask dilip that during your regime how many players were sent to national cricket academy to rectify this problem...?

rainas, rohits etc, though still considered youngsters but are with team india for quite a while now and its also not that they have suddenly developed the weakness against short balls...so what he exactly did during his tenure as chairman of selectors...?

i am not saying for once that bcci should not be blamed for doing nothing to rectifying the problem of some youngsters may have...but sir its very easy to criticise when you are not part of system anymore...

what about setting some precedence before new selectors who are going to take over from you...?

as i said the responsibility is mutual...the players in question should also take the blame on themselves for the 'chalta hai' attitude and doing nothing to improve their over all game...

if bcci is at fault for doing nothing...so are the players...coz nobody stops them to check into nca and seek professional help for any short comings they think should be addressed...to take their game to next level...

i hope rohit will do exactly that and won't wait forever for bcci to take a call...

but is he willing or just wait for another musical chair game to begin...?

One Final Joke

was played by DBV and his team yesterday... i.e.

Presumably knowing that it might be the last selection meeting (for him and may be his team) they have chosen probables which shows that they were just going through motions, bereft of any vision and such...

DBV in not so distant past issued stern warning to some of seniors that there are some tiwaries, badrinaths etc were waiting in wings and yet we don't find any of them amongst probables...if they are not even in top 24 players then either they are not good or...

had they showed some vision they would have selected at least both if not more giving them confidence that they are looked upon as future of indian cricket. i would go on to say that select at least one of them for the tour...coz no other tour can make them understand how tough international cricket can be and whats more needed to be there at that level...but not...

virender sehwag's omission from the probable list is also a bankruptcy of thought...they have chosen to go on easy path of selecting players with high averages...coz please don't convince me that gambhir is better test match player than sehwag...

Its very easy going ga ga when players like sehwag are on the roll...but the true sense of how we nurture our proven match winners is the hallmark of the successful system...if he gets lost in this wilderness will be a classic example of how a system killed a career and a player...fans across the world queue up to make it to ground, glued to screen coz good couple of hours of them and you can see the game turning on its head...besides if ever he deserved some support it was at this time...a gentle pack on his back, a warm arm around his shoulder...would have made him feel wanted and important...

to tackle aussies at their home you need some out of box thinking, the guts to go for gamble and vision to look for future as well....i am utterly disappointed that these probables does not reflect any of these attributes which differentiate an ordinary to a visionary selector...

but as harsha says, that if only interesting part of selection meeting is whether COS will joining it or not than you should expect only this...
