vettori the captain... protecting vettori the batsman...?

shared by straight point on Thursday, September 24, 2009

it was baffling to see vettori coming down at no. 8 after averaging about 50 in last 12 months as test batsman...

new zealand could have easily added another 20/30 odd runs to remain competitive in the game had vettori decided to come at six when taylor was going great guns... instead falling wickets at other end made taylor take extra risk in search of quick runs which eventually become the reason of his downfall... while the assurance of vettori at other end could have made him go all the way...

but then who would have protected vettori the batsman...?

who remained not out again after facing only 2 balls... when his team could not finish even 50 overs...

world inexplicable... seems like praise to vettori...

He honestly either severely underestimates his ability or has far too much faith in the abilities of his other team mates. In that team, he really should come in at number 5, and they should drop all the bits and pieces pretenders.

ach... does he need to average bradmanesque to understand the he is better off coming ahead of mills @ company...?

its clear cut case of remaining in ones comfort zone with no need to challenge oneself...

what's more he is even a selector now... so no body in the team dare question him...

SP, he's been the only one performing in his team for a while now. How much more can he do? He fields, he bats, he bowls, he selects, he captains. He deserves a break!

for start he can come bit early purna...

sometimes i wonder how other captain would have used vettori... and i would have definitely given him break for this for sure... :)

With New Zealand, it has been a sort of fad to underplay players who really can and overplay lesser players. The past two decades have been that way.

NZ team is a kind of commune where all beings are equal and everything shared. Likewise the position...Kylie Mills can easily come ahead of Vettori to bat and maybe even Blogger O Brien. But things don't quite work that way in cricket and especially if you are a team which can make do with strong performances.

Vet is rather set in his gameplan.

yes SB... vettori doesn't seems to that flexible... yesterday they could have really challenged SA but blasted the opportunity...

Vettori should impose himself more in the team.Forget Vettori, what is the coach, selectors doing? It is so blindingly obvious that he is the best bat.

indeed ott he should assert himself more... but doesn't do it for some stange reasons and hence mine perception that he protects himself from demanding situations...

though not a coach... but vettori is playing captain, and selector both so who has it in him to dare him in the team...?

Sb hit it on the head. He has not shown to be flexible or think out of the box. He follows a standard routine.

scorpy... then why don't he fix it that i will come at 5 or 6 come what may...?

Looks like no one there in the team management is pointing that out. Mores doesn't look like a good coach. That is his job.

scorpy...players are not pointing it to vettori fearing their places coz he is selector too... but your point about moles is well taken...

tho it seems that he might just be reading my blog coz yesterday he came at six... ;-)
