I believe he only shows the team positive footage SP, that strike rate was anything but ;)
Point taken though
thanks ach!
i meant how smart was umar who quickly gauged the situation that there is no need to stamp the authority... let the moment pass and when he was fully set took on the bowling...
he showed the temperament of a seasoned player...
SP,
praising a youngster after looking at 2 odd innings of his is highly risky. especially if he comes from Pakistan. If you have 8 batters in the team AND if you are SURE that the person coming next will do the job, you go for it. Australia did it. I am not saying India has that kinda batting line up but if you are confident that 8 of my batters can do the job, why shouldn't I go for it? That's what the famous 'Aura' as mentioned by Strauss meant, I thought.
If you give the opponent the scare that anybody can take the match away from you, you become the erstwhile Oz team.. the only way to dominate.. If you want to be Pakistan, all the best to you..
namya thou i dont disagree with you... but i think you are over analyzing situation here...
first i am not praising umar but his innings... they way he was alert to the situation and used that to his advantage... he left quite a few balls and was prepared to look ugly... thats where the problem is with our some stars...
they just are not prepared to grind it out... look ugly... they think leaving the ball or ducking under the bouncer will project them as 'weak' and hence perish at countering them...
hence the request that innings showed that you can still come with your head held high despite looking ugly in initial part of innings...
