...to invite so much of euphoria as if he is paksitan cricket's next messiah...

almost every one from pakistan is demanding his inclusion and even former pakistan players are questioning his absence from team pakistan's test xi...

this made me wonder as well as curious about him...so i did bit 'cricinfo' on him...

lets have a look at his batting and bowling record till date...

so while his 'all round' record in one day international matches are clearly anything but impressive...can someone please explain why he is worth that much hoopla about him...?

why so much 'fussaad' on fawad...?

Acha so firstly, he is a batsman who can bowl a bit.. he's not an allrounder..

His ODI batting record that u have shown, he batted at number 7 or 8.. he couldn't do much more than what the numbers there show.. he hasn't batted above number 7 in an ODI.. I think only once..

And u would have noticed that he remained not out in almost every innings he played...

Secondly, check out his first class average on cricinfo.

Thirdly, see this:

http://www.wellpitched.com/2008/10/fawad-alam-continues-his-march.html

http://www.wellpitched.com/2009/05/rbs-20-20-cup-rocks-on-razzak-continues.html

http://www.wellpitched.com/2009/04/pia-make-it-17-as-pakistans.html

He has been Pakistan's leading run scorer in all formats of the game in domestic cricket.. for the last 3-4 years...

Hence the fussaad...

Just like u guys talk about the Badrinaths and the Pujaras, we talk about the Fawads, Umar Akmals, and the Azhar Alis :-)

fawad alam is just a punching bag. no reason to get him n bigger question is wo goes out? khurram khan or Salman?

ex-players are just citing him as a reason to bark out their frustration.

i was amazed to see Moin Khan question Younis Khan;s decision to bowl. Dude, he took 4 wkts something which he never took entire career....

guess now Miandads are now replaced by Moins and Ijazs.

Well Q! I don't think he can open so can't replace Khurram or Butt and for him to replace anyone apart from him is not on. Shoaib Malik ? no I think you should persist with instead on Fawad Alam

Sam,

Fawad Alam is not a punching bag.. me and many others had called for his inclusion before the test but we knew that YK would stick with Malik..

He is not an opener and will not replace one either.. he should in instead of Malik.

And jsut for your information, Fawad is the best batsman on our domestic circuit.. he hs been for 3 years now..

my point is why didnt this spineless souls Moin and Nawaz blabber about Alam when Pakistan were going good for 1st 3 days.

if they feel team compo was bad then it was bad for entire game and not just 4th day when they lost.

so fawad alam is just a reason for this souls to attack YK.

Why didnt they speak on day 2 when Pak lost 2/15?

Moreso itss like Badri in India who has supposedly good domestic averages, but he doesnt commend a place in Tests....

thanks for the links Q...

his average is inflated coz of those not outs and his highest score is against hongkong...

that apart...most of those links are about t20 performances...do you really think that t20 performances are stepping stone to get the ticket of international test xi...?

do you really think that his calls to replace are justifies even when pak dominated for beter part of test only to fall like nine pins on fourth day morning which again is something we are used to of...they have capitulated like this even with some great batters in team in past...?

sam

though not fully agree with you but your observation can't be discarded straight away...i don't think they require to change the personnel just after one match...they should remember the same team dominated the match till fourth day of the match...

regarding yunis bowling...i too find it funny them criticising him coz he they would have seen the match they would have known that YK took wickets at very crucial juncture for pak when the sri lanka was threatening to take the match away from them...

but i guess when frustration comes in mind right perspective goes for the toss...

straight point said...

exactly indophile...

pak is playing test cricket after yean and half and there is no need to panic just after one match...this would send signal to sri lanka that pak is rattled...

straight point said...

they should have talked about team compo on the days when pak was dominating...

excellent observation sam...

I share your view, Much Ado about Nothing (Fawad).

yes ott...indeed it is...

SP,

If you read the first link, "Fawad Alam continues his march", that's about his first class performances for Pakistan A, the Academy, and domestic tournament in Pak..

Also read this:

http://www.wellpitched.com/2008/06/fawad-alam-pakistans-finisher.html

That will show u his rise from the U19 level...

His ODI record is not one to look at cos he batted at 7 or 8 in those matches and for the record he has that is a great one for someone who bats at 7 or 8.. you can't do much from that position.

He has a first class average of 56.. he's been the highest scorer in domestic first class for the last 3 years..

Hence all the calls for him.

Its just like how you people call for Badrinath and Pujara - do I question why the calls? I have no idea who they are or what they have done, but I don't question cos I don't know what they have done...

Fawad Alam is a domestic giant. I've been calling for his inclusion for 2 years now.

Having said that, I agree with Sam about Moin Khan and Sarfraz Nawaz .. they had no right to blame YK or the team composition after the match.. Pak dominated the game for 3 days.. no one spoke a word then.. and none of this ex players have ever called for Fawad Alam's inclusion..

As far as I know it has only been me and Legslip who have been shouting abt Fawad Alam for 2 years now..

straight point said...

Q...but we ask and question...its another way of knowing a player which is talked about in pak circle so much...

having said that i think pak is not facing the 'happy' problem if you can say so as india is facing...pujaras and badris are not getting chances coz of fab three still there and yuvi making irresistible stakes at times...

but if fawad is so good player as you have talked about...then what's keeping him out a test team... why he is played at 7/8 position...

and who you think should he replace...malik...misbah...?

will it be fair on both Ms...? that after just one test in 17 months...?

Q said...

SP,

You're absolutely right in saying that by questioning u learn more - and I'm taking it upon myself to inform you as much as I can about Fawad :-) ..

In ODIs he has batted at 7/8 because Pakistan's batting line up has always been 2 openers, younis, yousuf, misbah, malik, afridi, akmal.. now whether they perform or not these guys are irreplaceable for one reason or another..

So whenever Fawad has been played he has been played in the lower order, usually replacing a bowler for strange reasons..

He hardly got to bat in the world T20 cos of the same reason...

He is a top 6 batsman and if he has to come into the test side, it has to be in place of Malik... I've never regarded Malik as a test player.

In the ODI side I believe he needs to play instead of Yousuf..

And in the T20 side, now instead of Younis..

That's my opinion :-)

straight point said...

thanks Q for the pain...

hope to see him in tests too...

but don't you think by creating so much noise about him pakistan fans are putting him under tremendous pressure...?

Q said...

Well SP whenever there is a player who keeps performing and catches the eye, there will be pressure on him...

The good ones handle the pressure well and go on to become great players..

Those who can't handle the pressure, have short lived int'l careers...

Time will tell which one Fawad is..

There was hype abt Mohammad Aamer for 2 years before he made his debut.. he's lived up to it so far...

straight point said...

well said Q...

but remember bowlers can come back even after bad spells but batsman need to do only one mistake... ;-)

Q said...

So true.. and then people say its not good to be a bowler these days!

Wasim said...

Fawad has performed like many others in domestic matches but the only thing which goes in his favor is the huge jingoistic fan following.

There are quite a few players who have similar domestic records and probably better technique but they do not have any fan following.

straight point said...

this is the most honest comment i have read about fawad...

thanks wasim bhai... :)

Q said...

I don't think Fawad Alam's fan following is jingoistic...

No one, I repeat no one, has performed as consistently as Fawad has on the domestic scene for the last 5 years.. T20, List A, First-Class.. you name it and Fawad has a string of scores that are unmatched and his record is incomparable...
