it’s time to see beyond ponting... michael hussey...

...and uninterested players too...

now that ozies are out...they can ponder over some issues apart from preparing for ashes...

we are always made to believe that oz have pool of talented players (sans spinners of course) but in contrast to this very belief...they keep falling for the same set of players time and again...

so whenever watson will regain his fitness he will be drafted into the team like he has a place reserved for life...while players like marsh etc will be shown the door...without giving them enough chances...

michael hussey can keep his place doing virtually nothing...

..and above all is ponting...his t20 record both as captain and as player...is nothing to cheer about...his captaincy is regressing which is clearly visible...but cricket australia showing trademark arrogance (or lack of choices?) made him captain for all versions of game till 2011 world cup...beat that...!

now that ponting has led to their most embarrassing exit from a world event...will they sit and ponder over their future for limited form of games...?

i think they should... the way game is evolving you need players who are not only skilled but hungry to make mark on international scene... who don’t pretend to like one format over other... coz once you step into field wearing national cap... the length of game must seize to exist... one should be proud of the fact that he is representing his country at international stage... out of many who can only dream about it...

by showing indifference towards the job at hand or making it sounding like another outing to entertain (younis khan...please note) you are not only showing disrespect to the cap but also insulting your fans who follow you like a religion...

anyway who wants uninterested players...?

those who don't show due respect and commitment to this form of game...just needs to see what that world cup win did to indian cricket...

in this regard i sincerely applaud our seniors, who are otherwise known to stick to their places, for seeing the light and willingly distancing themselves from this shortest form of game...rest as they say is history...we not only won the t20 worldcup...but indian cricket has not looked back since then...

moral of the story...?

either show respect towards the game...or make way for those who will...

Now they can concentrate on the Ashes but the Ausssies have shown the world that they cannot play spin like the old South africa and also Just like the old South Africa have no spinner.....

I wish the aussies good luck.....as they need it......if they are evr 2 win again........

inability to play spin convincingly can be interpreted in a way that now they don't have quality spinners where they can gain some valuable experience...

watson being the case in point he playes spinners like cat on hot tin roof...coz of lack of exposure...

btw CPD...rest assured...they will need more than luck to win...

@Straight....NOOOOOOOO!! Nahiii!!!

All's good man...but not M.Hussey?!! :(((

I think he just came way too low down the order. It's a bit like the Raina syndrome for him. To low down the order to do anything ! Aus would have been served better if they had him at No.3 and drop rat-face ponting down the order or make him a non-playing captain!

I've got a post up on the Aussies too :-)

If you recall IPL2, the best Australians (apart from the retired Gilly and Haydos) were Hodge, Nannes, Warner and Symonds.
The jokers omitted Hodge and Nannes and kicked out Symonds.
And they expect to win?

fark...take your words back before punter comes calling for your head...

no.3 is HIS irrespective of form...mental condition he is in... ;-)

that's what happens when you 'do the drew'... :)

yes...CA has this infallible ability to remain arrogant against obvious reasonings...

It's too late Straight. I have sinned already :-) . Punter will cover drive me out of the park.

Trouble is, even this exit won't change a thing.

Ponting has to lose the Ashes. Only that will save Australian cricket. And not just lose, but lose 5-0.

in a way you are right NC...but i dont think they can get away this easy...specially after this unceremoniously embarrassing exit...

ponting should see light and call off captaincy at least for limited over format...

SP,

i guess more than their disrespect for the format, it was their obsession with the ashes! Oz have lost so much in the past few months, in terms of their standards, their aura, their whatever, that they needed a series against england to convince themselves, if not anybody else, and with that they lost some more!

Marsh is injured SP.. if he was fit, he would be in the squad.

Watson is def their best T20 and ODI opener..

I won't defend the others because Ponting and Hussey are not T20 players.. im talking abt Mike, not David.

Australia do have an awesome talent pool but I think when it comes to T20 they have been a bit behind the rest in banking on the younger brigade.

U can't blame them, they have developed their system and won for decades having experienced senior men at their disposal.. they need a slight change in attitude in thrusting youngsters at the deep end, esp as far as T20 is concerned.

They've done that with Warner, they need to do more.

ankit...

had they been more focused on the job at hand it would have automatically helped them for the ashesh too...they would have got real match practices and pressure situations which you cant get in nets...

so focusing on ashes is nothing but lame excuse...

thanks Q for updating me about marsh...

watson is def their best t20 odi player...but when fully fit...one can clearly see him struggling in field as well as bowling...

anyway...this defeat should make them realize that its time they should re-evaluate their system...to keep up with the requirement of times...

Q said...

No doubt abt the SP.. major re-evaluation required but for T20 only.. they're fine as far as tests and ODIs are concerned.

straight point said...

did you said odi too...Q...despite them struggling to put together a series win whole last year...?

Q said...

The had a series win against Pakistan.. 3-2 just last month or do you not count that as a series win? ;-)

Haha.. J/k ..

I think their ODI team is stable.. they can give the best a good run when at full strength..

T20 they have issues...

straight point said...

they are facing same problems in ODIs as well as T20...they don't have bowlers in middle over to restrict opposition...specially spinners...which is putting pressure on batting to put winning score in each outing...and that's where they are cracking...

their insistence on certain players is baffling too...

problem a plenty i should say...

The lack of a spinner is the biggest worry..
