dot balls...

that's what cost brc the coveted trophy...in the finals of ipl 2009...

for once i agree with mallya...when he said...

We were not beaten by six runs, we gave the match away by six runs

brc played as many as 62 dot balls during their innings...that's more than half the quota of allotted 20 overs per innings...

dot balls meant that pressure to score boundary was even more than normal coz of lack of strike rotation and the new batsman didn't had cushion of deliveries to settle in...specially in a big match like final of a tournament...

hence that apparent panic in BRC batsmen...

considering they lost it by only 6 runs...playing out more than 10 overs of their innings as dot balls ultimately proved suicidal...

Of the 62, 9 were wickets - 5 more wides than DC bowled, 6 batsmen with a s/r of less than 100

it's a wonder they didn't lose by more than 6

hmm...its oversight on my part...but don't you think less strike rate comes from inability to rotate strike...?

percentage of dot balls is really so high, particularly when one team is chasing and playing a vital game....alghough it is not expected in the league matches too...

straight point said...

yes kinka...specially when the target was not that taxing... rotating strike would have taken lots of unwanted pressure of brc batsmen chest...

but the most that hurt were the 2 in the last over,
i mean even if singles were scored off them..... that would have left an achievable 6 off the last ball.
Funny how Droppin Uthappa was missing straight balls and refusing kumble to get on strike

62 dots!?

What were they thinking.. or not..

thats another good observation prafs...

but i think even kumble thot the best chance of scoring those 15 runs were with uthappa on strike...

Q...i too am Qurious to know it...? ;-))

Will be interesting to see who the culprits were there.. who played out all those dots?

Thanks SP.

Kallis played out 2 overs for no run. Why am I not surprised.

All the batsmen played a lot of dots, including VD - 11 of them!

Look Jumbo played no dots

Q said...

Robin made sure jumbo plays no dots!

Q...so effective only two batsmen took care of 4 overs for DC... :)

had they looked to rotate strike more than slogging they would have easily won...

Q said...

Right said SP.

NC...jumbo too was trying hard to register few...but as Q said... uthappa dint let him...

nice one Q...

Funny guy that Uthappa doing a break dance jig in that last over when he should be looking to pummel the ball.

Well that sums it up for Uthappa.

to be fair to uthappa rp bowled very good over...but yeah the tournament itself sums it up the mess he is in...
