Border-Gavaskar Trophy is back!!

shared by straight point on Monday, November 10, 2008

we have won!! and how!!

we thrashed aussies...brought back Border-Gavaskar Trophy back to where it belonged...

and with a sweetener too...

pricky getting sodomised over 'over-rates'...

that he fell short to claim the line today...is symbolic of...game has its own ways to bite your @ss...

this is the most selfish play i have ever seen...even greg chapple did what he did to WIN the match...

for me not for the 2-0 result...and the thrashing they got in this series...the aura of world champion team dimineshed there and then...

world champion teams don't do that...world champions don't have captain like him...

but are we complaining? no way...

Congratulations...!!

Congrats India! BTW, did Ponting make up the overs finally or was it still short despite that?

straight point said...

Cheers RS!!

if only they will let us know...but my impression was that he still fell short...

Congratulations dudes! (that's next-gen speak no?)
Congratulations Dudes for keeping the faith and getting back what was rightfully ours. The case of the stolen trophy is now solved.

I hope whoever took charge of the trophy use Dettol or Savlon for we all know Ricky spits onto his palms all too often.

What stood out for me was the disbelief of Australians in their own selves. Their bombast sounded just like bombast...hollow...with no performances to back them.

But Australia are still no 1. Grant them that. And there is no guarantee that England will be as easy.

Mind you, we didn't handle the saffers well either...it is just that we have the Ozzie number in our little black books. When you wanna a date, just ring up that number, ask them to play and get riding them. Not so with others...India will have to gradually build on from the existing structure up.

I'm going to enquire about Robin Singh after the euphoria settles. He could cost us matches if he can't get his wards to do basic fielding well.

What do you prefer Pan?

Ishant if MoS and Mishraji is a spitting viper...laddoos, halwa, jamuns, barfi, jalebi or Dada's rasogollas!

cheers SB dude!! :)

yes thats why i said we not only dominated them on field but their minds as well...

eng has much more varied attack than oz at the moment and they wont be easy...but in a way i am happy that we wont be playing test straight away...coz we can get complacent very easily...

straight point said...

...and this win has increased my appetite so i take all of what you have mentioned :))

Well done India thoroughly deserved the victory.

I'll keep an eye on Monty.

Shah could be troublesome and Samit Patel in ODIs.

One wishes Yuvraj were in great form...we need him in the ODIs.

straight point said...

yup GB...a thoroughly deserved indeed...

SB, I'd seen your msg on Robin and fielding somewhere else as well and thought we could start up a conversation on it. I don't think a fielding coach can teach people to catch well, especially in slips. Someone like RD who is close to a world record doesn't have to be taught and slip catches are reflex based and I don't think RS can make an impact there. Where he has made an impact is in the ground fielding. I see two Indian players running to the boundary these days with one going for the pick up and relay and the other one throwing it back. These sortsa things were rare with Indian fielders earlier and now we can see a lot of it.

Finally.

man, how i've waited for a spanking like this.

cheers sp and friends!

straight point said...

prabhu...

i agree with you principally on that you can't teach rd and alike catching...

but...

you will agree that we never were great fielding side...but we were good catchers...but some how we are lagging on this also...

we haven't groomed any slip fielders...its almost always rd standing in first slip and lax on second slip...and who after that?

leaving legacy isn't always about batting or bowling...and i think RS failure is not inventing players to do that...

NC!!

isnt is great! they were not only spanked here like anything...but will have to face more when they return home!

now thats we call a fitting and complete butchering...

chill that beer maan!! cheers!!!

Congratulations:

It was a great game, India dominated through out the series,Indian team went in this match with an intent to win from the very first day they played aggressively through out and went for the kill.
Australian dominance in cricket has ended, through out this series they were the weaker side, Dhoni out smarted Ponting he was the best captain in the series.

India can also take solace from the fact that they smoothly completely half transition of replacing their old players during this series without much trouble and the results were mostly positive.

straight point said...

you summed it up very well Wasim!!

the best example that can be given how india handled the transition is that how we never missed the highest scorer of the series...gambhir in the form of murli vijay....

cheers for the win!!

"Greg Chappell did what he did to win a match" LOL... Will Ponting risk being abused for generations to come... no but I would love it... but at least, he could have taken care of the overrates considering his team was the one always under pressure to take 20 wickets.

Hey SP, long time. yeah, good fun wasn't it. Sydney's been avenged :D.

Glad to see everyone's still posting regularly, unlike me. I guess engineering doesn't give me the liberties. But that's probably an excuse. Oh, can I be a part of the BCCI too :D

the moment of reckoning was standing before him...scorpy...

he could chosen to become a legend by doing what needed by his team...but he decided to remain mortal instead...

Congratulations india.
what india did, australians have never thought in their dreams that india will crush them this way.
they always have in their mind that they are made for win, either by their performance or by the gratitude of umpires.

But we won by our own strength. lovely...

straight point said...

exactly SA!! lovely... :)

I think one of the problems is that Australia worry too much about past history of not winning for 35 years! But they only played in 16 Tests in India in that time. And nine of these came in 1979-80 (Hughes's WSC-depleted team) and Border in 1986, both unrepresentative of Australia's strength.

http://yellowmonkeysbananabucket.blogspot.com/2008/11/final-frontier-not-as-elusive-as-it.html

However, this Australian team wasn't so good. But an I/G Chappell captained team or Border in the early 1990s would have had a shout
