irani trophy...change of guard?

happy memories

tomorrow delhi plays rest of india for irani trophy...

the fans, the media as well as australian team will be keen to watch the proceeding with close quarters...and how i wish delhi runs down them well...if not beat them...

first, i am from delhi...

but more importantly...close match will not only help them be ready for more intense encounters ahead but will shed rustiness as well...for this has been bane of indian team for quite some time...we never start well after a break but competitive game like this upfront will ensure that wont be the case...

the cream of national talent will be on display...some will be playing to stake claim for their candidature...some will be fighting against time to save their place...

no one can afford to have a bad outing...for that will bring some questions which will be difficult to answer in short time as selection for test team is not too far away...

it was tendulkar's injury that gave him much deserved break in odis...now by coincidence he is included in rest of india again under similar circumstances...

is it sigh of things to come?

yes, i am talking about badri...this is god send opportunity to badri to dispel doubts which have started to creep in lately...

other players who will be in spot light are dravid, vvs, kumble, kaif, kohli and chopra...

i mentioned kumble coz it will be interesting to see how he bowls against aggressive batting lineup of delhi...

all in all a game which has all the ingredients to be a pot boiler...

any guesses...?

Hi Pan,
everone will put his best to show his worth. Now the time over when it was sure that fixed 8-9 players are already selected and only 2-3 will be included in the top 11. Now who performs well, will definitely get chance. Why now they should be given chances as now we have 4-5 players at the last step, and before their cross this step, we must have some one to keep the steping.
No doubt, ST, SG, RD or VV will put their best.

Tendular is really lucky, whenever he is out of form, he gets injured and comes back with a new boost. Hope this this time so...

All the best for new comers

SA,

yes the time is changing and as you have said they will have to put their best...

tendulkar is lucky in the sense that he doesnt have to prove his fitness...goes and comes just like that...

remember he declared himself fit for SA series...only not to turn for fielding...got out for zero...and then out for full series...

wonder why he is not subjected to prove his (match) fitness...?

Lets hope all the 'hopefuls' perform.

good one OTT :)

this is the time to make final knockout punch...isn't it?

yup sumit...its been like that...wonder when the cat will be belled :)

delhi is looking strong...and aggressive unit...

i hope that roi bowlers and batters are thoroughly tested out there...

Anonymous said...

strong, aggressive unit ? Are you talking of the same bunch who folded for 134 against Sui Northern gas and then went on to concede a lead of 132 despite having 2 India bowlers in their ranks?

It is true then. Denial is not a river in Egypt.

yes homer same delhi i am talking about...

what we follow is sports and any team can have a bad day...remember we talk about aussies as world champs that was swallowed once by Bangladesh, zimbabwe (in t20) and even our ranji team defeated them...

hmm...what was the name of that team ;-)

Good try SP.. But atleast in Mumbai, we are critical of our team when they slip up.. Unlike in Delhi..

Maybe it is because you are so starved for success that one Ranji Trophy win is carte blanche for every act of omission or commission.

Cheers,

sp - if viru scores big n delhi wins, some captaincy points will be scored. by default.

may be...may be not homer...

may be we are more mature and understand this simple fact better that at the end...its just a sport between bat and ball...anything can happen...we don't brag our players for the sake of it...

cheers!

Homer said...

Maybe you are more mature SP.. or just plain indifferent..

Maybe it is just a sport.. Or it is a metaphor for life..

Maybe you dont bag your players for the sake of it.. Or maybe you dont care enough..

I think the bottomline is this -
when Mumbai did not do well in the Buchi Babu tournament, our coach had this to say

“The season opener did not go down as per our expectations and we were not very much in control. It was an eye opener for us and now we can work in areas where we are lacking in,”

Contrast this with the reaction is Delhi where there has not been one word of contriteness from either the cricketers or the coaching staff or the newspapers or the fans.

What if Sehwag goes for a zero. Would critics bay for his blood again ? Would he be asked to go ?

This game is not as a trial to be in the team for Bang test. Let the players play as well they can and get the match fitness back. More imp get back in Test groove.

And i put RoI as favorites but also I would wish to see VS blast off Zaheer, Munaf Patel and RP. he is comin back from an injury break and (0,37) against SuI.

Homer, losing the Md Nisar trophy isnt a big sin. And more than words of coach after loss, its the way team rebounds that matters. Dahiya is a loose tounged creature, agreed but then nothin more can be expected out of him.

At any given day Amre would rank above Dahiya in coaching credentials. But then results matter. Delhi are champs, Mumbai isnt.

And this year Mumbai goes back 2 steps in gettin Bahutule and Kulkarni in their ranks who are well past their sell date.

Buzzz,

Dont get me wrong.. I understand winning and losing all too well..

And I have no issues with Delhi losing the Md Nissar Trophy.

What pisses me off is the attitude after the loss..

This is the first Indian team to lose the Md Nissar Trophy. They managed to do this at home. After winning the toss.

And what do we get?

No remorse, no introspection, nothing..

Just a laissez faire attitude - if you are okay with this sort of attitude from our National champions, more power to you.

Personally, I think they are a disgrace.

And Nilesh Kulkarni was always on the Mumbai roster. And I have called the Mumbai selectors out on the Sairaj Bahutule selection.

Which Delhi blogger has even come close to holding their team's feet to the fire after losing the Md Nissar Trophy?

Cheers,

hey Homer, i guess nobody follows the state Ranji team s fortunes as you do for mumbai :)

so may be that s the reason why no Delhi blogger took apart the Dahiya dude.

About the 2 oldies in Mumbai ranji team, i feel NK was dropped as he was mullin ICL. Dint know laters what happened. But certainly it would be good to unearth a new rookie spinner from the famous grounds f Mumbai which in turn would turn its reputation of being batsmen friendly to bowler friendly too.

homer

does giving sound bites to media only justifies the disappointment? lots of things are said before and after match...

and reprimanding players after each and every match is not the right way as far as i am concerned...it creates undue pressure on players psyche...

anyway each outfit has its own way to deal with things...mumbai does that...delhi not...

may be sehwag is the reason...he keeps the game simple for himself and his team mates...

straight point said...

buzz there is difference in sehwag getting out to zero and dravid...

i know you wont take it...but i will try anyway...

sehwag is averaging like bradman since his return dravid is not...he is struggling for form and thereby his failure is going to attract more skepticism than say sehwag's...

straight point said...

...and thanks buzzz for keeping homer interested... :)

straight point said...

gaurav...i dont know but somehow sehwag's captaincy doesnt inspire same confidence in me...as his batting...

i will keep a watch on his second season with DDD though...

Disappointing show by Delhi... from loosing quite badly to the Pakistan domestic team, there are quite a lot felt to be desired in the batting. And the fact is Delhi looked the better team than ROI and they lost still.

yes scorpy...

but more than that i felt more bad that none of kaif, badri, chopra could shake up things in their favor...
