irani trophy...change of guard?

tomorrow delhi plays rest of india for irani trophy...

the fans, the media as well as australian team will be keen to watch the proceeding with close quarters...and how i wish delhi runs down them well...if not beat them...

first, i am from delhi...

but more importantly...close match will not only help them be ready for more intense encounters ahead but will shed rustiness as well...for this has been bane of indian team for quite some time...we never start well after a break but competitive game like this upfront will ensure that wont be the case...

the cream of national talent will be on display...some will be playing to stake claim for their candidature...some will be fighting against time to save their place...

no one can afford to have a bad outing...for that will bring some questions which will be difficult to answer in short time as selection for test team is not too far away...

it was tendulkar's injury that gave him much deserved break in odis...now by coincidence he is included in rest of india again under similar circumstances...

is it sigh of things to come?

yes, i am talking about badri...this is god send opportunity to badri to dispel doubts which have started to creep in lately...

other players who will be in spot light are dravid, vvs, kumble, kaif, kohli and chopra...

i mentioned kumble coz it will be interesting to see how he bowls against aggressive batting lineup of delhi...

all in all a game which has all the ingredients to be a pot boiler...

any guesses...?

This Chai is too Irani for me...

its crystal by now that selectors will not pick 'rest' but 'india' as rest of india squad for the irani trophy...

virtually everybody seems happy that all of our stars will be playing a domestic tournament after a while...its best preparation for the upcoming oz series...

we will see them rubbing the shoulders with some wanna bees...etc etc...

i cant see this happening and that's why the title of the post...

this chai is going too irani...for me...

let me explain...

every nation arranges domestic games under different names but with sole purpose of streamlining the feed system to the national team...we get to see the metal of players who eye these tournaments with the purpose of staking their claims...

irani tropy...correct me if i am wrong...is held for this very purpose of seeing top domestic players competing with each other and there by presenting selectors opportunity to see and gauge the potential...

thats why we get to see the winner of ranji tropy playing rest of india...in the name of irani trophy...

rest of india is key word here...

are we really seeing rest of india...competing with winner of ranji trophy champion here...

what new facts/things we are gonna unearth by stuffing RoI with national players that we don't know already?

what about those deserving players who performed good enough for entire season and were looking forward to this opportunity...but have to sit out now....for no fault of theirs...?

its like defeating the very purpose you organize a tournament...

i can understand about players getting hit out there who were injured (like sachin) but playing virtually your national team in disguise of RoI is taking things too far...


you know what you have to do...am waiting...
