Time to Bid Adieu...Sachin?

shared by straight point on Friday, July 04, 2008

from ODIs i.e.

sachin, you have been god of cricket...you always will be...and i am your one of most ardent admirer if not biggest fan in the world...

you have already achieved what others can only dream of...and i don't see any one coming even close to you in future the way cricket is being played these days...specially in ODIs...

i know you are still enjoying cricket...we too are happy to see the same old sachin again...and we still cherish most recent CB series finals...

so where is the problem, you may ask...

look at our current odi team sachin...from distance...

sehwag and gambhir are not only cracking runs at breathtaking pace with some consistency but more so are enjoying each other company...the camaraderie is there like never before...

sehwag has found some much needed pause...while gambir is batting as if all bowlers are his enemies...and dispatching them from their presence...

but more importantly...they seems to have not only conquered bowlers but those lingering demons in their mind as well...not surprisingly the results are there to be seen to believe...

and there is the problem i talked about...

when you will return to ODI fold either of two will have to make way for you...

specially for you...for no fault of theirs...

as we all know how much you like opening in ODIs...

for you...accumulating more runs will only add to the never ending telly of boring statistics...like another dollar in bill gates account...

you don't need them to prove anything...you are already beyond that...

i know there is still one thing left in your overstuffed godawn of medals...

the world cup...

but see sachin...

first...it is another three years away...

and most importantly...

do you want team to get consumed so much in the thought of bringing world cup for you that it will be sort of nothing less than distraction to them...?

cant it be like that you keep thrashing oz for us in tests and we all keep on enjoying cricket like never before...the real cricket...?

i know your sponsors will not be happy with me for this...and i may get some serious thrashing from your other equally passionate fans across world...

but still...think over it...for once...please...

thank you.

{ready with covers to duck}

I think SP you could have wait for this post to be posted.

What India scored in the present series was because of pitches not due to any thing else.

Sachin is still a god and is good for cricket yet. I doesn't mine whether he is under form or whats ever.

He can prove his ability whenever reqired.

We are shaky person. When someone do good we put him on the top and when some fail in any inning we put back on the bottom. This is not a love for cricket. It is just enjoyment of cricket.

SO if you love cricket you need to put every angle to your forward site screen.

But you true whatever be the reason one has to go from the ODI for some time till sachin retires. Even it may not happen. Currently Yousuf not proving anything for india so replacement is there but if india decide to go with 5 bowlers then no other option then Raina or Rohit. But i retained sehwaug and gambhir will not be put to the out of window.

Some thing Extra : If sachin score the century after his comeback in ODI you will be first to write on his ability here at SP. This is not your fault nor my. It's our culture, it's our thinking and nothing else.

neno...

for once...my post was long overdue...and i said it in of comments after CB series final...which he won for us...

that was as high as one could get beating oz in oz that too in finals...

so there is no relation of india entering final and this post...

you have missed the point...even if sachin makes hundred after his comeback it will be just another milestone for sachin...nothing less nothing more...

Anonymous said...

yes i did forget that but any thing advice from us to sachin is unacceptable. He is more responsible. If he found himself non viable for the world cup he would retire himself.

So i think Sachin knows in advance when to retired but you will said correct many ppls because we are like this only and we will be like this.

But sorry for that i really didn't read whole paragraph. I think you should not raise question on his retirement. Let it be with him what to do.

Anonymous said...

ok. Adding you in blogroll.

straight point said...

neno...thanks for your straight forward comments...

i was ready...

think of it in isolation...

its not about sachin...its about team india...

what more benefit team india will get if he comes...hammer tons...and makes runs at the pace of 7/8 runs an over...

we are already doing that...

and if they fail on some lively pitches...let them face trials and tribulations...let them come out strong to represent india at highest level...

look at it either way it will only serve india good...

straight point said...

and BTW...thanks for blogrolling me...let me return the favor...

Ok again thanks for kind comment and also telling more in deep.

Yes indeed helpful for India but we should give full credit to sachin for representing in India in the world of cricket.

I think this what sachin makes great is he remained so consistent till 10 to 15 years that we forget he is a person and individual and remember those who makes mistake are human otherwise god.

We told him god of cricket because he was so consistent as i told. and now he is not so consistent so we are taking back what we gave. We have nothing to give to others then love.

He gave his full to India and we gave our full to Sachin. But now ppl demanding back their love, can India give back his services. No na, then why question.

Truely and Frankly, i too get bored with sachin but we must respect what it is. This is not for your post but for all the cricket lovers of the world. You cannot expect a old age person to run in an marthon. So, i think it is better not to speak against but he to make sure he give his last speech before something goes wrong in his way.

I agree with your post and I am also a sachin fan. It would be unfair to gambhir and sehwag at this point. It is not to say srt will fail, or this combo will continue to succeed - but that leaving one of them out to bring sachin in is bound to cause rifts as well.

Excuse me Neno Indian and Pan- you seem to have formed a mutual admiration society.:)

Pan, I greatly fear for your health. Beware!

straight point said...

neno...thanks for intriguing debate...

there is famous adage...go when ppl ask why...then why not...?

why sachin wait something to go wrong before signing off...is beyond me...

and if you cant run in maraton and still running it...you are not doing justice to yourself as well as to the guy who is waiting in the wings...

straight point said...

that's another angle RS...thanks...

why create ripples for the sake of it?

straight point said...

OTT...

i now know for sure that i have taken 'Panga'...

pan doesn't need to fear his health. :)

And Ott.. what about administrative society ? Wait till i am do lot of spams on your blog :)

back to point....

Yes SP you are correct but as i told telling by us to sachin make us down then the human. I just say to sachin take care of your family and nation (He knew when to retire). We also give some more try though we fail hoping some thing could go in our favour though it happens never.

back to off topic...

By the way i like SP and therefor i am here lot of time looking for new post and comment. Will try my best to give some more comments to another blog. I am new as a writer and have little bit time so.......(unknown)

OK SP,

i am sorry if it has offended you in any way...i mean it...

I was just telling simply, never thought it was with me and nor thinking it was with me panga.

Well i also belive in something but in different way "We should agree to disagree on one point". This is to ensure independent behaviour of human being.

Well if you would like to take panga then take it, i would not take care of this panga but ensure you don't take away my rights to comment on blog.

I would be the second person in your life after Anil who are greatly or comparitively with same idealogy. (Cricket UA)

i seriously dont know Neno why you are taking it onto yourself...

if you read my post again (which was posted earlier than your comments even came) i mentioned that i am ready with covers on to duck coz i expect some thrashing from sachin fans coz it taboo to talk about sachin in any sort of way other than praise...

the 'panga' referred to that...

you are and will always be welcomed here to post comment...

SP: Sachin's latest role should be that of a floater, in more ways than one. He should play anywhere from one down to a finisher. And stay clear of inconsequential one dayers played in the the sub cont summer -frankly, anyone should be scoring on these tracks. If India plays 40 ODIs in a year, 10 from him will do just fine, thank you.

If part of aimless ODI tourneys, should refrain from back to back game.

About his retirement, think his body will answer that. Not his mind. And when it does happen, it'll be both tests and one dayers. If his form dips, he'll take a sabatical and be back. Suspect he'll play the next WC.

straight point said...

excused OTT :))

Q said...

No one, absolutely no one can keep Sachin out of Team India.

He IS team India.

Remember if it wasnt for him, Dhoni would never be captain, it would be Sachin.

There is no replacement!

And he doesn't have to open.

Since Gambhir and Sehwag are doing a good job and Sachin knows they are, it would be better for Sachin to come at 1-down or 2-down. He's done that before and there's no reason why he can't do that again.

If Ind goes with the 7 bat-4 bowl combo then Sachin comes instead of a bowler.

Otherwise either of Raina or Sharma can make way for him.

Q said...

Sachin is GOD!

straight point said...

gaurav

the point is where and how he plays in ODIs...the point is what is the need...

its not 90s team when people used to switch off tv sets once sachin out...we are managing anyway...if only we want smart bowlers...

About his retirement, think his body will answer that. Not his mind. And when it does happen, it'll be both tests and one dayers...

that is the point...why not prolong your career by playing in tests...where your experience and skill are still required?

what say?

straight point said...

Otherwise either of Raina or Sharma can make way for him...

this is exactly we will 'achieve' nby playing sachin in ODIs...and what sachin will achieve Q.... ??

and yes sachin is GOD...

Q said...

The thing is SP that the Asia Cup and the previous Kitply Cup were played on dead pitched in the subcontinent. Sehwag & Gambhir did really well as did Raina.

Hell even Younis Khan scored 100s on these pitches.

What happens when India plays in Aus or SA? U surely need a Sachin.

We all know how the young ones performed during the CB series.

I agree with NC - Sachin can pick and choose what to play.

The amount that India's younger ones can learn from Sachin has no end..

straight point said...

agreed on dead pitches point Q...as i said earlier here...

...if they fail on some lively pitches...let them face trials and tribulations...let them come out strong to represent india at highest level...

why we deprive them of this experience...why we are afraid of their failures...if we wont throw them in heat...we would never know...at least we can do this in ODIs...

and sachin is always there...coz GOD is everywhere :)

Anonymous said...

first sentence from me (be funny)

If Sachin is God, then we are CricketGod ha ha :)

second sentence...

As i told gambhir is also good at 3rd no. so there will be no threat to sachin for his position. Yes surely sachin cannot bat after 2nd position.

As i told you cannot take form of current series, even raina, younis, sehwag, gambhir, dhoni, (i will say all ppl) and even bangladesh scored runs so what ?

Don't be funny with the result of such wasteful series. Take an overview but surely valued time has gone for sachin.

Anonymous said...

again pointing SP.

I think little bit confusion coming from your post (not really but)....

I think it would be great to differentiat the sachin with current scenrio. You mentioned about the sehwag and gambhir which lead to confusion.

Sehwag is something different, when he knocks, he rocks ! so don't mind his form.

I tell you, sachin should take retirement but doesn't in the faith that team has got good batsman.

I think the age is a factor which is asking sachin to take his place from the team to ensure giving his 100% in his last day also.

But we must put, retirement factor with sachin him. He has given 100% for more then 18 years and therefore he must be given opportunity to quite the game himself.

straight point said...

where are you RS...i need your support :(

;-))

Viswanathan said...

Pan,

RS is away, may I help?

RS said...

sp: Its an avalanche - but you already had your covers ready:-)

As of now, every single spot in the team is contested. Uthappa is waiting to get in, Yusuf is there in the sidelines not to mention Dhawan, Badri, Asnodkar etc... So if someone fails, another is there waiting to pounce on that chance. And if we are worried about their failure - we are just prolonging the demise?

As for the floater: I like the idea but will Sachin be willing to do that? Media will state that he needs to come in the top 3 - so I doubt it will work.

PS: Sachin is God.

straight point said...

thanks for the support OTT...i really needed that...

straight point said...

yess...RS...a friend indeed...when a friend in need...

as you rightly pointed out if we are still afraid of their failures then only GOD (read sachin) can help us ;-)

Hail GOD...Hail Sachin!!

SP you have really taken a panga,
I completely agree with Q, you will again miss Sachin dearly when you will play against Australia or SA, hell you might miss him in the Asia cup finals.

Anonymous said...

His panga statement seems to be refering to me :) though i clarified i have no panga.

Thanks Wasim, atleast here some support for me.

You cannot judge the person on his 1 year performance with his 18 years.

Surely sachin is now becoming old but he knows how fit he is to play.

If you say him God, then you don't need to tell god about what is wrong and what is right, he knows well in advance

straight point said...

wasim bhai...lets think that we will struggle against teams like oz and sa...but will that be end of world...dont most of team struggle...cant we let go some meaningless matches for the benefit of current lot to toughen up?

if they are of real metal they will survive or else sachin is not going anywhere maan...

as RS has nicely put that if we are still afraid of our younger generation failures...then only GOD can help us...

straight point said...

CG...as you please SIR!!

Som said...

Can we have similar post on Ganguly and Dravid too?

Gaurav Sethi said...

som like it hot.

Anonymous said...

it could be a good point from SP.

We need a young blood which can be integreted with the current body without any miscep.

I think the idea is good to have young blood in the team but which we should test which blood group matches the team in the right way. We must first find out the replacement for sachin and then we have right to think on his retirement.

yes as i mention no one can judge on the performance of the current series. Sehwag is something unknown, when he hit, he hit over otherwise he will be in pavalion and otherthing he cannot put him in crease for more then 2 hours or so.

At the other level Rohit Sharma, he is not consistent yet. Yusuf could not prove what he did IPL. Uthappa once came and then gone. Gambhir seems to be promising but he is replacement of Ganguly. If rohit performance then he will next wall. but still we are missing sachin's replacement. Hope we could find that too early as possible.

Anonymous said...

hi som,

who is ganguly and dravid :)

straight point said...

SOM...

of late only sachin has been the link of past and present so i dared to eliminate the link by myself... ;-)

straight point said...

one on sachin is enough for me Gaurav...

anyway...is there still hotness left in SG, RD...?

straight point said...

neno...

exactly...let me remember too...

ahh...leave it...

Anonymous said...

no nothing left in SG, RD, or anyway including VVS also in this.

They played great but fall from the terace. It would have been great if they have retired earlier keeping their status impect. Well this applies to Sachin also but he is not so poor in his way to take it easily. I am sure if he fail in some continuos matches he will quit himself.

Anonymous said...

SP,

i cant disagree when you say, that he should go now when people ask why instead of why not.

but my belief is, that india still needs SRT, as a mentor, as an on-field coach.

i seriously don't trust gary, or lalchand or anyone like them.

Anonymous said...

http://www.allpaddedup.com/2008/03/sachin-ramesh-tendulkar.html

this is one of the first posts i had written on my website, and this was written at the end of CB series, around the same time as you must have thought of this one.

Anonymous said...

Well u got a point! but you are trying to have a bird in hand and also one in the bushes.Isn't it a bit selfish to bid farewell to a player like Sachin and then recall him if and when needed.

Its my personal opinion but I think the policy of BCCI is perfect. They are only trying to play him and the other seniors in tougher environments and trying to make it easier for younger players to settle down.

Anonymous said...

I allready mentioned all what you said wasim and ankit or so at Neno Cricket

straight point said...

thanks ankit for the link...nce article there...

yes you are right this thought came to my mind (and i even commented at some places then) that beating oz in oz that too in finals is as high as one can get...

regarding his mentor role...i think he can do it very well being in test team as well...

straight point said...

wasim you caught me with red-hands :))

its another matter that india will not be stepping outside these 'tough' bata subcontinent wickets before 2009...

its another matter that while he was playing in most previous finals we managed to stick to 'chokers in finals' tag...

its also another matter that when oz (tough team by any standard) visited india on these same bata wickets we lost odi series...

the point is not that he/we should have won those finals/series (coz single person cant win)...

but point is what worse we will be if sachin will not play ODIs from here on...lets say coz of injury if not retirement...

Anonymous said...

suggestion SP,

put a new post otherwise this will never end. :)

Trideep said...

SP,
I am a late entrant here i think and i really dont have the patience to read thru the huge straight hits that u have got.

All i have to say is that even I was thinking on the same lines. Sachin shud announce his retirement from ODI's. Its not just because Sehwag and Gambhir are doing great. I trust Sehwga completely and i know that not before long he wud lose his touch. Also it wud not be so easy for them to play on pitches which are not so batsmen friendly.

But i think he shud retire because this lot of players are all geling well as a team. They are all of similar age and are havin fun and are enjoying their cricket. Inclusion of a senior player like SRT might affect this. Also I dont think its good to change the team comosition so much for every format of the game, esp for ODI and T20.

Anonymous said...

some support from trideep but we have leave this topic for future. May be we have wait till his retirement.................

Anonymous said...

@SP, some very valid points indeed. As for the covers ready, I had a bit a shock to see 61 hits! :) I guess the moment anyone mentions Tendulkar and retirement, there will be tigers ready to pounce.

I agree with some of the folks here in that, while India still need SRT (esp outside of the sub continent), he needs to be picky. I wouldn't like to see either Sehwag or Gambhir make way. Maybe a certain Yuvraj should. To me a sub-continent batsman who cannot play spin does not belong in the middle order. But that is a discussion in itself.

@som, looks like we are in the minority. No one seems to give a hoot for Ganguly and Dravid. :(

KP said...

SP, I am totaly disspointed with you and with this post! You are suggesting him to retire when this new team cannot beat australia , yes they can beat weak pak team and bangladesh,honkong....etc. In world cup we`ll be against tough oposition like ozs and south africa...did u forget the VB series final what sachin did?

I am sorry to say but this post was totaly out of line...u cannot judge great player on based on this one series and ask him to retire dude!

I thought you are smart cricket fan, but I guess you are not as sharp as thought! I understand its ur space and you express your own thoughts! You can ban me from your blog or you can delte my comments.

this post is totaly unacceptable!

Anonymous said...

SP,

the fact is that the ODI needs SRT to mentor them.

the test team has got Kumble, who, according to me, is the greatest player India ever had.

in a way, SRT 'could' retire from tests right now, but not from ODI's.

the ODI team needs him.

i am guess from your post, that you think the team should be self reliant and should be able to do without Him, but i don't think Dhoni & Co. are ready as of now.

Anonymous said...

i am not sure ankit,

but i think BCCI gave kumble captainship not on reallity basis but to respect this person otherwise it would have been given to some strong person.

Anonymous said...

neno,

how do you think kumble is not a strong person?

remember antigua test, from the days long back?!

and what aren't you sure of, what do you want me to illustrate for you?
