YUVI & IPL...

shared by straight point on Thursday, April 17, 2008

love him or hate him but you can not ignore him...

same can be said about IPL...

the reason i have put Yuvi and IPL in same bracket is this...

its general feeling about yuvi (the test bat) that he has not paid back the investments india made on him...you look it from any angle and the grudge is justified...

he seems to be with team india forever and yet we see him warming the bench at test level...

yours truly too said in one of his recent post that he just want to be 'the yuvraj' when he can actually be 'the king'...

most of us agree that more than talent its his attitude which is the problem...

i can see you are already getting bored of this post coz its saying nothing new at all...

and where is IPL connection in all this...

wait...

as we all know from tomorrow onwards he will be captaining kings xi punjab...

so now he will have to take decisions...make strategies...plan innings...and all that good captain is supposed to do...

how he will cope with some stupid shot one of his player will make at crucial juncture...

how he will react to the player who he feel has the potential but not delivering the results matching the talent that player supposed to have...

and finally how will he manage the player with 'attitude' problem...

will responsibility on his shoulder for the first time as leader will change him...for better ??

will he come out sensible and sincere player with leadership experience...?

will he realise the same pain which he has been inflicting to the people who have invested so much on him...

will IPL make him understand what other's have failed till now...

i think it will.

do you?

PS: while you make your decision...enjoy this punjabi style unadulterated entertainment...no hold barrier...capsule...!!

That's an interesting perspective... but somehow a spoiled brat will remain a spoiled brat unless his comforts are taken away.

it will be scorpy...if he will remain the same way...

A nice point SP..

However i doubt whether yuvi will be taking it that way... IPL till now has been more entertainment & money than cricket. I have a feeling it will remain that way. May be the players won't take it too seriously.. but if i am proved wrong.. nothing better than that..

a warm welcome trideep...and thanks for dropping by...hope you will keep coming...

once the IPL will start all the hype, money etc with take back seat and nothing but good cricket will sell...

every team will try hard to win the tournament and with that will come the circumstances i am talking about...

he will be forced to think that way if he is not think about it already...is my take...

like his team with lee, kumar and mahela in it; easy going guys who didn't shrug intensity. esp the two lankans, thought that was a good buy. some of their zen like calm might rub off on to ys.

I read one Ganguly interview in which he said fatherhood mellowed him down. Well, Yuvi has to wait for that but my point is like fatherhood, captaincy or any such responsibility often brings out the best in someone who has been unruly till that point.

Now that Yuvi will skipper the side, he would have a perfect feeling how it feels when one of his batsmen gets out playing a rash shot; when motivation of a player drops, how it affects the side; when a teammate stays aloof, how it upsets the dressing room ambience.

Captaincy will allow him a larger picture of things. It would give him an opportunity to prove his leadership ability, man-management and communication skill. I'm not sure what good IPL actually would be but I would be happy enough to see a different Yuvraj emerging out of the entire exercise six weeks after.

If Yuvi flops here also, I'm not sure how much more spoiled one can get. Though there is a ray of hope, I would agree with scorpy on "a spoiled brat will remain a spoiled brat ...".
