and here he is... catching a flight to caribbean... in place of an injured praveen kumar... to realise his dream to play for india... and once again
ipl - the dream merchant is the reason...
umesh yadav impressed with his raw pace but came across as the one who is prone to spray the ball in excitement... but as ipl progressed he showed that he has the ability to learn quickly... he not only started varying his pace but length too to good results for delhi daredevils, the team he plays for in ipl...
yadav has it in him to bowl as good a toe crushing yorker as one can see and has the pace to surprise with a sharp short pitch ball... a good weapon to unleash on opponent... it's time some one from india gives back the 'chin music' with due interest...
to those who don't know much about him... here's this wonderful story about him...

“I have just collected my tickets from the Vidarbha cricket office, it still hasn’t sunk in. My parents are very excited but nervous as well. They are village people and have very little idea of the world outside. regulars of this blog would remember my views on IPL...and how i feel that it is dream merchant for many upcoming players coming from not so sound financial back ground...
you can safely add mashrafe mortaza to this never ending list...
today he was 'sold' for final price being $600,000 (approximately Rs 3 crore!) against his base price of $50,000 (approximately Rs 25 lakhs)...'bought' by SRK's Kolkotta Knight Riders...
that's whopping 1100% higher than his base price!!
amazing!!
in the process, he became the first bangladeshi player to be auctioned in ipl...no wonder there will be celebration in his home...he deserves every bit of it...
at the same time i was bit surprised that there were no takes of icc's top allrounder shakib...goes to show that apart from players and teams how 'seriously' franchisee too take these icc ratings...
though, i know one pakistani blogger who will feel as disappointed as maybe shakib himself...but i don't have any 'Q'lu...who is that blogger... :)

Life for Dinesh Salunke took a very interesting turn in Dec 2006 when he got selected to be a part of the Cricket Star Academy. From then onwards he started living his dream of learning from and rubbing shoulders with some of the best in the Cricket fraternity - Kapil Dev, Sanjay Manjerakar, Geoffery Boycott, Monty Panesr, Waqar Younis and then being chosen the 'Man of Series' of first ever cricket talent hunt and reality show, Cricket Star,. Dinesh Salunkhe has just returned to Mumbai on Wednesday, 19th September 2007,after spending the English summet training and coaching with Leicestershire County Cricket Club. The Chembur resident played for Little Thorpe and Narbourough club at Leicester. Dinesh played 8 matches in which he scored 287 runs and took 28 wickets. Salunkhe got an opportunity to meet English pace man Sajid Mahmood. Robin Singh and Romesh Powar, who were a part of the Indian Team that was in England recently, met this Mumbai lad and appreciated his performance at Leicester. Salunkhe, the leg spinner and an all rounder found out how tough it is to turn the ball in England. But Salunkhe learned a few things in a very short span and adjusted to the tough climatic conditions in England.
Salunkhe, who was offered scholarship by former Indian Captain and legendary Kapil Dev, and a contract with Air India had left for UK on July 14 after being nominated as the Man of the Series of the first ever Cricket realty show Cricket Star I, that was aired in April this year.

from nobody to bowling alongside with legendary shane warne in yesterdays match...is the kinda fairytale script even our bollywood is yet to come up with...
PS: after revisiting Dinesh story, i found out that there is definite link between IPL & ICL...apart from ICL Head Kapil Dev financing his scholarship...if my memory serves me right that 'Cricket Star' show was aired on Zee Sports an enterprise of Subhash Chandra the brain behind ICL...hmmm...are we into something... ;-))

So the bidding is over...and we are seeing lots of smiling faces around...some are surprised (ponting, macgrath) some are stunned (symonds) and some are simply overwhelmed...
for purist there are concerns of invasion of oodles of money...its effects on cricket we all love...some are concerned about shifting of power base to subcontinent or more aptly india...there are uneasy, but i dare say helpless, voices who are ranting about how india controlling world cricket through money...
but overall i am not overtly concerned...
for two things...
first, when everybody was falling over each other for his share of ipl pie there was one one outstanding almost unreal gesture from vvs of refusing to be an icon so that hyderabad team has more budget to bid players...its takes courage, the character to stand out from rat race...somehow i feel cricket will be in good hands and that game will take care of itself...
another was Manoj Tiwari's story...
i read somewhere that when he heard his 'sold out amount' he was simply numb for some moments and when he regained his composure he said he would like to build a house for his parents who struggled all through their life to put them in english medium schools...
tiwari is not alone...there are lots of players who have come from very humble background and seeing their dream are coming true...its not as if that playing for india was anything less...but so much money overnight is something else...you do need money as well to realize dreams to life...
so i am happy...coz first ICL and then IPL have done their bits to realize so many dreams...
but i am concerned too...about cricket...no...robotic cricket...
with so many players from different zones and countries (not necessarily from their own as ishant will be playing for kolkatta while he is from delhi) will be playing with each other...and emphasis will be on all aspects of game...batting...bowling...fielding...we will see players becoming as uncle from cricket with balls says PROBOT...
are we assembling a line of PROBOTS...??
coz every body will be playing same cricket...no flair of a region...no flair player...just simply plain robotic cricket...
