look around almost everybody is welcoming champions league (CLT20) as the savior of cricket... the much needed refreshing shift of attention cricket needed from spot fixing saga...
why we would want to shift attention from spot-fixing when the time is ripe to nip it in the bud...?
why you want to just do the first aid with supporting dose of painkiller to do away the pain when its really is the time to operate...?
painkillers never heal the wound... the faith that was the first and biggest casualty... painkillers just takes the pain of being cheated away from us... the attention gets diverted and this is exactly what the incompetent authorities are waiting for... the moment the attention is shifted they will pounce on the opportunity to create the illusion of action...
they will keep on throwing painkillers like a bait to fans hoping to get much needed time for negotiations to appease and protect their vested interests and we as fan would keep on falling to these baits coz they know we don't have options...
but if ever there was time ripe for over-reactions in cricket... this is the time...
cricket will be played... there won't be dearth of it... the upcoming season is full of it... and as a fan i am ready to do away with some of the side shows that are being run in the name of cricket, the pundits are already proclaiming as welcome shift of attention, if it leads to some concrete, if not conclusive, actions to restore the lost faith...
why you want to shift attention...?

on sachin being rested from tri-series...
shared by straight point on Monday, August 02, 2010
as expected... sachin has been rested from the upcoming tri-series between india, sri lanka and new zealand...
sachin has been given rest is not an ordinary decision but a comment on sign of times to come... when a player will be rested from meaningless international series to play in more commercially viable... glamorised designer domestic level tournament... the future of cricket... aptly named... champions league...
coz that is where champion players play...
why should a champion player, like sachin, play in an unglamorous, increasingly meaningless and about to die format... limited overs internationals... nobody cares about...?
what will sachin do...?
shared by straight point on Wednesday, June 30, 2010
from mid july onwards india will play test series with sri lanka which will be followed up by the tri series with new zealand as the third team that will end in last week of august...
from 10th september onwards champions league t20 will start in south africa in its new format which will end late september... after that, almost immediately, it will be time to play home test series followed by an odi series with australia ...
here is india's schedule... and this is champions league's schedule...
now considering the workload from the upcoming hectic season... and considering that sachin excused himself from an international event, asia cup, in lieu of some well deserved rest and spending valuable time with his family... will sachin excuse himself from champions league, a t20 league, to be ready for much important australia test series after playing in sri lanka...?
or will he take rest from tri-series in sri lanka, another international series, to be ready for the champions league which is not even an international tournament...?
method in T&T madness...

there is no face of T&T... they are bunch of ordinary players doing extraordinary things together as a team... and that's what i like about them...
today's final will just be for the academic purpose... to me... they have already won this inaugural champions league...
though, if hard pressed, i have only one grudge... if only T&T dresses were colored maroon...
no ipl team left in inaugural champions league...

so the justice has been served...
all those who just could not see anything beyond money are rejoicing over it coz now at last they have got some much needed balm to rub on their enviously burning asses since cash registers of modi and/or bcci started ringing much to their utter dismay...
conveniently overlooking the facts about what in its first attempt itself champions league has achieved...
it has certainly brought teams like trinidad and tobago (fondly called T&T) into international limelight from the obscurity of wicb maze... T&T has really captured the imagination of fans across world... there is so much frenzy about this team that the talks have already started taking rounds that what if T&T plays real west indies... or for that matter who the real west indies are...?
much like lahore badhshahs managed to capture the imagination of fans during that now dead icl...
when was the last time domestic teams of any major or minor test playing nations got so much of international attention and the best part is that its just the start... it will not only intensify their individual domestic competition... but also the fans across world will be able to see the riches of talent... though in most abbreviated version of cricket... but something is better than nothing...
it has not only opened new avenues for domestic teams to not only make good money and showcase talent but also for the fans across world who were getting tired of seeing same set of players competing against each other with result being forgone conclusion...
but why would they highlight it...? not at all... coz all their energies were focused and consumed on the need to get some balm to rub on their enviously burning asses and in the form of elimination of all ipl teams from champions league... they have got it... so good for them...
so now that they will be busy rubbing it... lets enjoy it without any pretensions...
the 'bow' is back...
shared by straight point on Wednesday, October 14, 2009
...and so is robin uthappa...
this is what i wrote about him and his trademark 'bow' earlier... but he seems to have worked out how he wants to approach the game... the difference in his approach is visible... now he seems to wait for the hittable ball rather than manufacturing it... consciously playing shots in front of wickets rather than looking to dab the ball at square or third man... his age old nemesis... and more importantly not getting carried away by hitting boundaries and taking singles after hitting it to keep himself in check...
no wonder things have started to fall in place for uthappa with good results in champions league so far... and if he can carry his form further... he will present an irresistible claim for the selection in t20 team india at least...
robin uthappa is the kind of floater we are missing in t20 games... though he can play at any position... i would like to see him open the innings with sehwag in shortest form of game... so mine lineup will be...
sehwag, uthappa, gambhir, raina, yuvraj, dhoni, bhajji, mishra, praveen kumar, zaheer and ishant with karthik, rohit sharma, sreesanth and munaf, in reserves making the bench as good as first eleven thereby no passengers in the team... atleast in t20...
