what is pathan doing in the team...?

shared by straight point on Monday, February 28, 2011

india's campaign is just two match old but one can already see a spot being wasted... the no.7 batsman...

sachin, sehwag, gambhir, kohli, yuvi, dhoni is the batting order to die for and on our wickets you won't see pathan batting too often to make an impact...

dhoni is not using him to 'up the ante' like yesterday match when the situation was ripe to steal some quick runs but decided to send yuvi instead of him... although holding kohli, a last match centurion, was a daft move in first place but that is beyond the scope of this post...

the less said about his bowling the better... even dhoni don't have any confidence on his bowling and there you go... its not hard to see the point...

as we go more into the business end of world cup... i guess india will have to rethink its strategy... keep on wasting a spot as a protection for 'those days' or continue to give itself an option of a specialist bowler to throw ball to...

yes an extra bowler will be handy but i hope they stop mucking around with the order. when gambhir + sachin got out, it was calling out for some pathan power. needs a bit of time in the middle before he can start biffing.

also the 2 seamers + 2 spinners equation is not working out. our seamers don't inspire much confidence and if one starts leaking like zak did last night, there is no recourse. saffers can afford the luxury of 3 spinners because their two seamers are steyn + morkel.

also its about time ashwin gets a game. even better if it comes at the expense of harby.

i have nothing against pathan... but what is the point of having him or any batsman at no.7 when more often then not you are not going to use him... and even if when opportunity presents itself...?

harby IMO has been bowling as good as he ever bowled in recent times... and he along with zak is what lending some respectability to the buffet for bowling...

I would ask another question. why play Kohli and use him like a Pathan when you have a Pathan?

Between Gambhir, Kohli and Pathan we have a screwed up batting order.

I guess I realized yesterdat that I am dropping India from my list of 3 favs.

Now its SA / Eng.

Not sure how many WCs have been won on batting alone

Exactly that is the point.

What is use of having fabled players in your batting lineup when, some never get a chance to bat.

On the flipside, the insistence or the love for having a batting heavy team; is weakening teh bowling attack.

One should not look very far, just see Pakistan. Doesn't it look more balanced in India?

'in' in this line should be 'than':

gol... only dhoni can pull of stunt that is totally unnecessary and just for the sake of it...

its preposterous to think that kohli could not have done what yuvi did...
why you would want to disrupt the rhythm of your best in-form player...?

am surprised that after y'day's game you have eng as favorite who gave as much runs on field as 'poor bowling unit' of india...

ab... if only india had a bowler like afridi who can bat like him... :)

think by the quarter final stage india will know its best combination... we are slow starters and not only on cricket field... ;)

I have a simple theory. The best test teams usually win the World Cup (exceptions 83, 96 and you could argue 87)

So my favs are SA, IND, ENG simply because they are the best test teams today

The message is clear. Don't dream the worldcup with heavy strong batting line up with average bowling and pathetic feilding.

There is one batsman excess in our current combination.

Fast bowling needs tremendous amount of skill and fitness. It is pathetic the way Munaf, Nehra, Sreesanth, Zaheer manages their fitness. No Indian bowler can hit the deck hard with good pace to get good bounce. It is equally pathetic to see some fielders giving up chases easily.

Every team goes through a transition of getting rid of the old guard and bringing in the new. Pathan does not fit the tournament and should make way, 100%

tho exceptions will always be there... agree with you completely on this gol...

england will be almost unbeatable if somehow they manage to make KP firing all cylinders...

shameem i agree with you... but the thing is yuvi is very big player who has done consistently well for us over a long period...

and the form of kohli and pathan too not letting team drop them... but i believe sooner or later team will realise that hard pill will have to be taken... its not about players... its about winning the world cup...

yes ben... either team uses him as an impact player or just leave him to bench... even boycott's moma can bowl 2-3 overs... :)
