why dhoni the maahi never says naahi...

shared by straight point on Thursday, October 14, 2010

o yess... how well i slept yesterday and woke up a fresh after watching team india doing soopda saaf of aussies... only to be stirred and shaken by the friend and fellow bored member naked cricket's candid boredwaani... is one day team selection rigged...?

this got me thinking about our one day team... many usual suspects are rested and many usual suspects walk in without doing anything... as if the door was never closed on them... like they have the pass to the team that never expires irrespective of what they do... or to be precise not do on field which matters most to other players who get dropped even before one blinks an eye...

this brings me to an usual suspect who is, unusually, not rested despite being in visible discomfort... dhoni...

dhoni, inarguably, is the most busy international player today... reportedly his back is not holding well... his hands are swollen... his right hand's middle finger is badly damaged and taped so heavily that it takes an effort to fit it in gloves... if any player who needed rest more than anyone else from this farce of an odi series... it was mahender singh dhoni... mahi... but why he never says naahi (no) to rest is THE question worth wondering... specially the same dhoni who took rest from a test series sighting fatigue...

i have always wondered... why dhoni subject himself to be treated like a machine that has to be installed on every venue... every match... every series... however inconsequential...?

i fear, that dhoni becoming the most valuable player... the face of team india in corporate world... and lastly... his latest 200 crore endorsement deal has nothing to do with it... where he is required to feature in every game irrespective of its significance... and if it is not... i don't think he likes his middle finger that much... does he...? :)

Ya endorsements can be a reason.

When you look at it Raina is the man with the most matches. Remember Dhoni being injured in the IPL and Raina taking over? And then again Dhoni was rested for the Zim series and Raina was the captain.
Again I am not sure about resting the players now. Few days after the NZ ODI series India start the 1 SA test without any practise matches.
If the selectors had any foresight, The Test players could be sent to play a practise match and the usual suspects can be left behind against NZ. But that won't happen. You, see it would be time to think of the World cup by then. And hence the team would enter an important series without ideal preparation

anil... its surprising that you have come to this conclusion... how...? ;D

i think you have not read the hotlink i gave to dhoni being the most busy player... :)

anyways what dhoni does more than raina is that he captains and keeps wickets too apart from the batting... don't you think he is bound to be more exhausted by the effort..?

also don't you think that as the time will pass it will become increasingly difficult for dhoni to take rest...?

Point accepted. But I sometimes think that just because Raina is young people forget his workload. Apparently, people also say his place is under threat and he's got to play.
Just saw that NZ lost the series to BAN. Still, selectors would be forced to play Tendulkar and Sehwag. Seriously, some foresight needed.

mouse man... i don't think selectors have balls to rest tendulkar with him being in such a form which is almost surreal...

sehwag needs to play... if not for anything than for just to improve his second innings play... :)

Raina doesn't keep wickets. That is a 24 hour job unlike Raina. Raina has become part of the test side for only 2 series now. Dhoni has played non-stop since his break when he was not the skipper.

There is something sinister there. Sehwag is fairly well rested. He should have played in stead of Dhoni.

Any day Dhoni the player is not inevitable to this team now. Dhoni the Captain is needed when the WC-11 arrives !

really well said dhoni needs a rest a break that is during nz test series bcoz if this full strength nz team can lose a odi series to bangladesh then ..... otherwise we fear it may happen what we dont want bcoz dhoni is truly a great player & we really need our captain (the strategist),wicketkeeper & afantastic batsman( a 3 in one player) during WC2011 at full fitness. BCCI is mad cant they see?

Bro, I said 'can be a reason' :)

exactly govind... if wicket keeping alone is not exhausting effort along with batting then he also undertakes the most demanding job of being captain of the team and not only just on-field...

as you have rightly said we would be needing fit dhoni for the worldcup not the plastered one... hence if there is any injury which can be healed through proper rest... the time is now...

anon agree cent per cent with you but c'mon why blame bcci for it...?
