This country misses Ajay Jadeja or does it not ?

Yesterday, Indian news channels were buzzing with the India's win over Australia at Mohali. Just move from one channel to the other and one will find a panel of experts discussing the win and of course, the VVS.

On NDTV India, Sunil Gavaskar and Ajay Jadeja were doing the honors. Sunny, though at his sarcastic best when taking on British and Aussie commentators; looked a bit subdued. i think, the part of the damp sunny was the not so fluent anchor, but the presence of Jadeja was affecting Sunny too. Jadeja -- Someone who speaks his mind without much laag-na-lapet (approximately means ' With no value Addition on aesthetics')

Jadeja has been with NDTV for more than a year now, and most of the times I find him very accurate with his predictions. In the recently concluded Sri Lanka Test series, in the second match when all the experts , Indians and others alike, were saying Sri Lanka has chance, that too during the lunch break discussion; Jadeja pitched a very non-ambiguous stance in India's favor.

I even go a step further, i believe, if the match fixing incident would not had happened Jadeja would prove to be a good captain too. What do you say ?

Are you saying most match fixers are good captaincy material? ;)

@achettup__________:) it's another matter that Ajay Jadeja starred in a movie to prove himself innocent. But as he got a five year ban; can't absolve him. But Do you think, he really was a captain material? Pl enlighten.

I myself watch NDTV more than any other news channel. And over the years,I have enjoyed seeing his opinion.Earlier of course, there was Navjot Singh Sidhu with him,who used to talk talk n talk...and not let Jadeja speak.
Luckily though,Sidhu's gone.So now we can listen to the cool Jadeja, who is always very calm and confident, just like he was in his playing days.I do think,he would have been one fine captain.:)

There was a time when Shastri sounded astute. Actually, he still is quite an astute reader of the game but not as much perhaps. But then one would have to account for the number of times he has to make calls during commentary.

Was Jadeja able to hold a Test spot purely on his batting abilities in a stable fashion? That might have been a prerequisite for India captaincy.

His international career resembles Yuvraj's.

I thought Jadeja should have been the captain when the BCCI went with Ganguly in 2000. Subsequently he was found guilty of matchfixing and banned for 5 years. He actually led the side quite well in the few matches he was captain. He's reasonably good on NDTV and like you said he doesn't mince his words. At the same time he never says anything to make you think he has an axe to grind against anyone. I'd say we was the biggest lost to the team but then it had to be done.

@FreeHit_________Well said. I want to add one more point here, it's not that Siddhu was not a good judge of the game, but he took his word maverick image too seriously. Something that killed the debate; as no matter what the other person said; Siddhu tried to outpace the other speaker. SO it was more like a pot without a base, tilting here, tilting there.

Thanks

Soulberry______You brought a great new perspective to the debate-- By comparing him with current Yuvraj, wrt batting.

When I watched Ajay, I was in college, so my judgment about Ajay can have some discrepancy. But Soul, whichever games that I can recall, in which Jadeja captained; I view him as managing the team well. I view jadeja more like Dhoni in batting skills ans temperamant, rather than like Yuvraj.

@Mahek________Well said. To add,as you said, Jadeja doesn't try to outpace the other person; as he doesn't fancy himself as being an expert of the game. A trait, current skipper, Dhoni also shares.

ajay jadeja is another player who could have been one of the best captain india never had... other are shashtri and mohammad kaif...

he has very sharp mind... always think on his feet and generally well ahead of game...

i still remember him taking the last over in an odi (i think against englad) when they needed about 6 (?) and we went on to won the match... how many captain would put their neck on line that too if they are hardly bowling at all...

sorry sb... i do not agree with you on him comparing with yuvi... and i am with ab on this when he says he is more in mold of (old) dhoni then the yuvi...

SP, I remember that match when he bowled India to a win...

He could have been a good captain, but we would never know that now. But as an 'expert', he is definitely one of those a listener like me would like listening to.

He has a style of speaking where by giving his own opinion, he also allows the listeners to form their own opinions. Sidhu, on the other hand, asserted (rather aggressively) his opinion on all and sundry.

Whereas once I liked to listen to Shastri's opinions, these days I believe his wisdom comes out only in pieces. Rest of the time, he is more concerned with the pompousness.

@straightpoint________ Best captain india never got. Like to add one more name, Shane Warne.

Earlier Sachin used to ball crucial overs too. Ya you right said, it need guts for a batsman and occasional part-time bowler.

@Shridharjaju_________You have brought a new dimension here:

"He has a style of speaking where by giving his own opinion, he also allows the listeners to form their own opinions."

Sometimes it's fascinating to see how great minds think alike. Soulberry, also made certain keen remarks about Shastri, just as you did.
