australia lost mohali test on another dustbed...

shared by straight point on Wednesday, October 06, 2010

Let's get one thing straight: losing to India in the subcontinent is no disgrace.

Plenty of great Australian teams have returned home from those dry dustbeds with their tails between their legs.

no it's not me... this is what ben dorries said who's article got published in herald sun, australia... thanks for the hat tip by friend and fellow blogger bala...

back to the dust-bed...

i wonder which test match ben reported and herald let it publish... so although the date of article seems october 6, 2010, but correct me if i am wrong... is he referring to the same mohali test that went on till almost the tea of fifth day... the same test match in which pace bowlers took 25 wickets out of 39 wicket that fell during the course of match with two run outs being other mode of dismissals...?

This is what is known as Quoting out of context.

Do you really have to be so touchy about what they write? Dorries was referring to how pitches used to be in India. He hasn't said a word about the Mohali track. Also, a dustbed can be good for pace bowlers as well because the ball grips which makes it seam and a rough track helps the ball scuff up faster, which helps bowlers reverse it quite early in the innings.

o really anon?

tell me how it is... did he dispel the notion anywhere in his piece after establishing the basic premise...? if he did... pls do not let anyone stop you to enlighten me... :)

yes mahek... i got so touchy about it that i was about to cry but thanks to blogger they have given this platform to vent my frustrations out... :)

just because he went on the criticise oz... does not mean that he dispelled the very basis with which he started his piece...

its like mom saying to her child... "you always gets beaten up by goons..." referring to the one who beat him up...

tho as always... you are free to interpret it as you want to... like i have... :)

In answer to that, the problem is that you have missed the essence of his article. Instead you choose to focus on a single sentence that he wrote to probably console himself and his target audience ahead of the Ashes.
Again, I have never understood why Pace friendly pitches are termed "challenging", while spin friendly ones are termed "dustbed", "dustbowl" and "Minefield". There is an inherent bias in the terminology itself which i have always found irritating.
I was hoping u would provide a link to an article which i could rant about, but found nothing there.

anon... why it needs to be a rant to be fully assured that what writer intentions was... i will never understand that...

as i said earlier he did not do anything to dispel the very basis of his first few lines...

please also read my example which i gave to mahek...

its like mom saying to her child... "you always gets beaten up by goons..." referring to the one who beat him up...
