can 'informant' amir really escape life ban...?

shared by straight point on Tuesday, September 14, 2010

if this report is to be believed... mohammad amir could become icc informant and reveal "dodgy betting identities that corrupted him" to escape life ban from the spot fixining charges...

but in doing so... can amir escape the life ban in real...?

let me explain...

in life one can become informant of authorities to escape harsh punishment coz he has the option to start life afresh elsewhere... but can cricketer who will have to return to the same system... same colleagues to earn living by playing for them do that...?

although in open... pcb and his colleagues will pat his back for exposing the malice in cricket... but will they trust him the same way in closet...?

will the very system, pcb in this case, that didn't act earlier coz its own hands were muddled in corruption, continue to pick him like they would normally after amir exposing "dodgy betting identities that corrupted him"...?

incidentally... the first casualty of spot fixing saga is not from the tainted trio but it is yasir hameed, who on camera bragged about all his colleagues being involved in match fixing, and one can be pretty assured he won't share the same dressing room again...

hameed is the one who will be serving the unofficial life ban... without even charged for spot fixing...

Well, SP, Life ban from Cricket is the least of the problems Ameer will face if he rats on his colleagues and betting syndicates.

What might even happen tragically is that the bookies might give him a life ban from THE EARTH! Like, "This is what happens to thosee who betray us!"

Oh... i hope he does. The point is that Amir should be able to earn a living as a cricketer. Besides, if he does expose corruption, those corrupt players will not be playing. Pakistan may be reluctant to act firmly, but i doubt whether India, South Africa, Australia, England and other teams would agree to host Pakistan should they be seen to be lenient or lackadaisical.

The thing is, this can only be fixed if Pakistan cricket can get out of it's current hole. I know that a lot of people, especially in India.. would prefer it if Pakistan just went away (both in Cricket and otherwise), but I have little time for that attitude. It would be horrible for cricket if Pakistan stopped being a full time Cricket playing country.

If Amir is turning approver, then good for him...

its not as simplistic as it sounds K...

what will be the scope of Amir's revelations... will it be limited to only other tainted players involved or will it go beyond that...

although chances are that they will just restrict it to tainted players and maybe naming of an outsider nobody knows and care about...

as much pressure is there to 'expose' the fixing there is equal pressure to hush up things too... coz corruption in pakistan cricket is not limited to only cricketers but goes upto Mr.10%...

if i were amir i would definitely weigh my options coz it is very easy to come and say, like suresh menon has in his latest column, that players should be whistle blowers...

why not, for example, menon blows whistle on journalist who plant fake or masala stories in the name of journalism under the cover of 'sources'...? coz its easy to preach when nothing is at stake for you...

SP,
Have to say that you have made a very good point.he might become the left out guy even if he does so.
But I think,he would rather do this then just getting a life ban.He comes from a poor background,so even he is the left out of the team, just like Hameed will be,he might be able to earn a living. If banned for life,he doesnt have any future what so ever.

PS:Got to say,I just love Raj's comment...:)

don't forget that there are seven players "allegedly" involved in fixing. being a rat is not easy when more than half of your team are the bad guys.

I have to admit, I don't have a good feeling about this whole fixing saga. on top of this, ijaz butt has gone to visit sharad pawar..things are getting more murky as days progress.

I'm not sure if Amir would actually turn approver. He has been grilled and said all he had. He may want to add to that. But turning approver? Again I'm not sure.

It seems everyone is naked in this 'hamam' and I hope there are teammates left with whom he can share the dressing room.

so even he is the left out of the team, just like Hameed will be,he might be able to earn a living.

i am not sure about it mayank... how he can earn a living being left out of team... and how it would be different him being life banned and then left out of team...? pls elaborate...

welcome ES keep dropping by...

yes... that is why i believe if i were amir i would take chance on 'sympathy of age' then naming names...

som...

why only players...? suppose he name ocb officials or butt... then what...?

will they be implicated just coz amir name them...? no. but damage to amir will be irreparable and irrevocable...

What I meant, was that if Amir escapes a life ban, then he might be able to play domestic cricket and even english county like most pakistanis have done after they lost their place in 11.
