jrod has proof of spot fixing in ipl...

shared by straight point on Monday, August 30, 2010

i know i would be hated for this... but if you don't believe me... here is the definite pointer...

I’m not naïve about spot fixing, I’ve written more than a few pieces about it. I know it goes on. But in pointless ICL, IPL or Pro40 games.

before you link my nationality with this post and dismiss it as rant of another ipl chastity protector... let me clear at outset that i am not beating my chest over ipl... it is the matter of principle, attitude and responsibility...

the matter of spraying words just to make an interesting narrative... and bcoz jrod is angry that his cricket, he so dearly loves, which has been maligned, so he has got the right to throw accusations at anything he pleases...

it is also surprising as well as disappointing that on one count coz he is looking to make career out of cricket, he dearly loves, and is one of the most followed blogger on blogosphere... who has just given in to the verbal diarrhea over facts and substance just to make narrative interesting...

and here, i was thinking that here comes the one who will not at least give in to cheap sensationalism over substance that is so prevalent these days...

so either jrod has conclusive proofs of spot fixing in ipl and will share it with all of us for the benefit of cleansing cricket he dearly loves or at least has the grace to put an apology to admit that this was one lose word too many...

coz in failing to do so he invariably stands in same corner like the ones who blaim cricketers... players are cheats and hence malign cricket more than anything without actually having anything in support to show for their accusations...

surely, I don't have any proof, but i had put up that the Randiv 'no ball' episode could be linked to spot fixing too.. you did not write a post to blast me...

And I thought I could get some hits through unpopularity with that...

thanks ankit... for telling me that i did it for cheap hits... you don't know but you have just given this blog a life line...

btw i hope you know the difference between 'could' and 'is'...

Exactly my point. I remember reading an earlier post of his around a year back and thinking if he has info why the hell does he not share them? I mean, you have the nerve to write a damning blog post about fixing, but then pussy away when it comes to taking names. why write them in the first place if all you wanted to do was to gloat about your so called 'inside information'

jrod, we are sure you must have read this. atleast, your well wishers surely have posted the link to you?
Are you man enough to respond? Or, is that only a facade you put up in your blog?

Another Australian who prtends to be equal-opportunity bites the dust. oh! the tragedy!

Arre SP you got me wrong, I meant I could, yes could, get some cheap hits, as you put it, had you blasted me instead.. For I said something out of line too.. I was appreciating your guts to find the underlying theme of this work

Jrod gets told there's fixing. He's not keen to believe it, but can't ignore the idea. Stories start popping up in the media, and then NOTW makes doubt very difficult. At some point Jrod ends up believing that at least some of it must be true ("ICL, IPL or Pro40"). Yes, he comes out and says "I know it goes on", but while he's never been a bandwagon jumper, he's never been particualrly careful about overstating things, either. What's the big deal?

straight point said...

no worries ankit... :)

straight point said...

yes its no big deal jonathan...

specially considering that the blogger in question writes for professional websites and publications which means he will be believed more hence ows bit more responsibility in what he writes...

another factor is do you seriously think that he is the lone writes in this world who gets this unsolicited stories unlike bhogles boycotts and other renowned and respected writers and yet you wont find any of them say "i know"

lastly... are we ready to make cricket a field of random accusation where anybody can wake up and say "i know" and have a field-day on anything he wishes suitably hiding behind "i know"... and how we will determine his "i know" is more (or less) authentic than the "i know" of jrod's?

as much as betting is hurting cricket these "i knows" are not helping matter as it breed suspicion on every player in my opinion and if you think its no big deal then most certainly who am i to change your opinion...?

IPL is attacked by many groups for their vested interests. Although, it may be that some sort of fixing may be under way at IPLs; but when someone puts IPL to fill spaces before any ..etc.; keeping in mind that no matter how big a journalist is most of times he can't back what he claimed; then this is not good.

Rather remaining contextual while reporting contentious issuses is good.

Or a little creativity will harm no one. Like if someone says:

As IPL teams are owned by business barons who are at different degrees of promotion requirements at different times; hence, a team owner may tell his team to lose a match(for some monetary gain) to make things difficult for some business competitor's team.

Is a real possibility and hence be looked into.

I'd hope that if you look at my own writing, you'd see I don't go for that sort of carelessness, either, but Jrod has always been like that. There's no more reason to go after him for it now than there was before. You just can't read him the same way you'd read someone with a different tone. The professional sites have their own ways of dealing with it, I'm sure.

ab... but team have been accused to have pick and chose the opposition they want to face in crucial matches even internationally in the past why single out ipl only then...?

by suggesting this you are also in a way lending air to the 'betting heaven' ipl aura... as the possibilities in ones mind can be endless while the game still goes on... bcoz the aura of suspicion is created amongst us...

just for example every body is talking about the pakistan collapses as the result of fixing now... but no one is talking about the consistent batting collapses of oz and england because its the cricketers of pak who has been accused so the 'aura' is just to accuse anything in the name of pakistan cricket... the moment the suspicion is raised about oz and england i am sure their collapses will be seen the same way...

SP, I agree with you that dragging IPL everywhere is not the right thing. What I was suggesting ,is that rather than picking stale accusations model; one can use creativity and imagination to make writings interesting. As in that case although you are not saying "you think that to be true"; you are saying something which if logically thought out; can be the real case.

the irony is this post is against this very thought actually... :)

i disagree with you on that Jonathan... he uses his words very carefully that is why you see that although he has mentioned "pointless" icl, ipl or pro40 games but has conveniently slipped KFC Big Bash... :)
