srikkanth's new promise to india...

shared by straight point on Monday, May 10, 2010

yesterday after announcing team india for zimbabwe tour... kris srikkanth, chief selector of india, made a new promise to the nation... when asked about team india's performances in ongoing t20 world cup... cheeka said...

"our batting is world class... no doubt about it... it was our bowlers who did us in... they never got early wickets to put opposition team under pressure and consistently failed to restrict them to a manageable total... so, irrespective of what happens in this world cup, i promise to select a team of 15 batsmen for the next world cup..."

he ended the press conference with a rhetoric question... "what is the need of bowlers when they are of no use...?"

for a change... dhoni and i agree with him... india should have stuffed their line-up with batsmen who can chase any target opponent would put on the board...

Is there any point in selecting Jadeja? he came to bat after Harbie, so were they shielding him? The bowling attack looks weak.

I have already talked about his bowling a few times and sorry to say it looks innocuous. IMHO it is the selection of bits and pieces players like Jadeja and even Yusuf that is hurting the team. I saw Uthappa play some authoritative pull shots in the ipl and for the first time was playing more in the V, so could have been selected instead of such bits and pieces players. Pick specialist players and that includes both bowlers and batsman. If there is a genuine all-rounder it is great but don't pick bits and pieces players as they can't do the job.

as i said earlier GB... any team who is looking to win world cup with just about 2 and a half front-line bowlers is make joke of whole nation...

when you opt to field to take the advantage of 'moisture' you ought to have bowlers who can exploit it... from the beginning we looked to restrict opponent to manageable and never ever looked like taking wickets... opponents knew about this and waited for some time to encash it later...

so the fate though is disappointing but not surprising at all...

We really should be playing to our strengths: spin. Harby has been super, and we need to play another specialist spinner. Chawla may not be the best, but he's in the squad and is no mug with the bat. Jadeja is having a horrendous time, no form or confidence. Also, Zak needs to quit bowling length and do what Nehra's doing. Having said all that, the batsman are actually to blame :P

tell this to dhoni rishabh... :)

one can only pity the thinking which believes that you can win a tournament through, not even decent, part timers...

I didn't watch the news so I don't know if SP is pulling Cheeka's leg or ours...but presuming that's the impression he gave, the very bowlers he complains about were selected by his team of selectors.

IPL didn't ptove useful for there wasn't enough time to allow a few matches to happen and then submit a team for the WC.

But even a visually challenged man would have known that this line of attack wasn't going to work.

gotcha sb!

it was just my sarcastic attempt on cheeka... he stuffed team with part timers... so obviously the next step is going to be why even have part timers...? :)

Wait till these team gets to Zim. Raina is leading them, for gosh's sake! The ODI rankings are about to take a tumble.

vm... i dont think its a bad exercise... there has been quite a few guys who are knocking the door and with the assurance of a series to perform... we might be in for some pleasant surprises... i would be keeping a close eye on bowlers like umesh yadav...

You're an eternal optimist, SP. I will believe it, when I see it. Cheers!
