but what about no.1 ranking in ODIs...?

shared by straight point on Wednesday, May 05, 2010

bcci has shown willingness to re-schedule the upcoming seven odi series in october in india... to two tests and three one day series in order to appease their newly found 'test loving' stance... purists are already celebrating the news as if heaven has opened the gate for us... but sorry for spoiling your party... i would like to differ...

bcci in its zest must not forget that they are what they are coz of one day internationals... much before t20 and more precisely ipl happened in india... it was ODIs that kept bcci laughing all the way to its banks... and now that the health of ODIs is in danger... how can they leave it high and dry to die unattended...?

but more importantly what about no.1 ranking in ODIs...?

we are currently happily placed at no.1 in tests already and as homer argues here at bored nothing is going to change even if we sweep the two test series... but if we win the 7 odi series it will not only avenge last series loss but it will also help us inch towards being numero uno in ODIs too...

besides... the seven match odi series will also help our young guns to get into groove... to get some tough match practice just before the 2011 world cup due to be hosted in february in subcontinent... and team india think tank will get close to identify the combination of players to make squad for the world cup...

so, as homer said at bored... JUST SAY NO!!!

At the moment, ODIs are dead to the BCCI... oh yes they still bring in reasonable dough, packed stadiums at out of the way cities that somehow happen to be BCCI members' hometowns etc, but the need of the hour is not $$$, the BCCI has plenty to spare and must go about protecting that before all is lost... how about appeasing the masses then, all bedazzled by the number one ranking and true/real cricket propaganda... you know, people have been told they have no powers of concentration, that they don't like classy cricket and that they can never be connoisseurs, so thay feel this urge to yell "I LOVE TEST CRICKET, I can't watch it while I'm at work and so end up missing about 90% of the play, but still, I LOVE TEST CRICKET!"... and many of these people are in the media and they have been rather inquisitive lately... digging up details that might cost everybody the golden egg... please them for now, give them a nice test series against the side everyone believes provides the best competition... and hopefully they'll start to like you and before you know it, people won't be bothered about the naughty goings-on at the BCCI... oh wait, they already don't since the political push to sustain this manufactured outrage is over now that all parties have had slights equalized!

exactly ach... as i said at bored... bcci rather than doing right things wants to be seen as doing the right things...

so we must lap up even if it is dead as do do two test series... coz its with mighty oz who were comprehensively beaten on indian soil last time...

but what about avenging the last series loss... and looking for ways to become no.1 in odis too...?

next year in any case we are going to play enough test matches... so purists can come and kill me... but i would like team india to get tough odi series before 4 months of odi rather than this useless test series...

SP, the issue of Test ranking (taking Homer's point) aside, isn't 7 ODIs just...too...much??

or rather "too many"....

I see this is wonderful move and as for ODI's.....do you see them being played lets say in another decade?

yes megha... under normal circumstances i would say 7 odi matches are 2 matches too many... but before 4 months of worldcup on home side against top ranking team... i would take it...

and why keep test ranking aside... what's harm in eying for being numero uno in both tests and odis (or for that matter in all formats of game) when we have a nice shot of doing it...?

christopher... why go for another decade...? i would say if we can be no.1 in odi for say till it exists or for about another five years than why not...?

tell me... should we drop our guards just coz we don't see odi happening for another decade as you said...?
