After seeing Dhoni perform and perform in tight situations has made " Calling Dhoni confident" a useless activity. India knows he's confident, the opposition teams know he's confident so why say the same thing again and again.
But after seeing Dhoni hit two massive (mile long long) sixes in yesterday's crucial match against King's Eleven Punjab: I want to say Dhoni is "Super confident".
Why I want to call him so and on what basis?
i think it's the nature of the shots which justifies the "Super confident tag".
As one sees, Dhoni chose to hit the two shots in a manner as if he was going for an assault towards the ball. The shots were not some trickery or any "in t20 any runs would matter; no matter how"; but were sheer resolve and hence pure brute force.
What do you say: Does Dhoni justify the "Super confident" tag? And does Dhoni's yesterday's performance point to something more important?
Super confident Dhoni !

as i commented here earlier... let me repeat it here too...
i wud say... nothing succeeds like success... now nobody will remember how late he held the assault almost costing csk semifinal birth... :)
@straightpoint___________ You're right that it's the success that makes people change their opinions; if you say Dhoni took so much time to up the ante; then too he must be credited more so for having the confidence to hit three big shots in a span of three balls.
having the confidence to hit sixes is one thing... and risking your team's chances for so late assault is another...
9 out of 10 times... the team chasing 17 runs in last over will fail... my question is... if you have this much confidence in your ability... why leave it for so late...?
I wonder how the two games yesterday would've ended if Vaas and Pathan had exchanged places :)
mahek... i wonder how the two games yesterday would've ended if dhoni and collingwood had exchanged places ;D
but on serious note... it should not have come down to that level for delhi... they needed to win 2 out of their five games ended up losing 4... they have been the biggest let down in this ipl season...
epic failure... as if there was competition going on withing the team that who could be more 'reckless and pathetic' than other...
I don't think it would have made any difference. Only bad bowling can lead to the fielding side conceding 16 runs off an over. I've seen Dhoni fail in similar situations. The T20 World Cup game against England comes to mind.
I think he is confident and not over confident. For if he was over confident he would have tried it off the first ball he faced.
It was some hitting SP but I was expecting it. I was damn sure CSK will win even when the task looked monumental ;)
bala... its anil bisht of cricketua fame who wrote the post... :)
but indeed the hitting was as brutal as we have seen recent times... i hope for team india's chances that he unleash himself from some self-imposed responsibility burden in upcoming t20 wc...
Sorry A Bisht. I am a fan of your cartoons and enjoy them. Nice to read your post for a change.
Well SP for Dhoni to repeat his act he needs short and over pitched stuff. The bowling in the last 2 overs was so pathetic that it was hard to believe that two quality bowlers can consistently deliver poor deliveries. That was bit unreal for me. May be I am wrong, hope I am wrong.
agree the bowling was rank bad... but its not dhoni's fault... is it...? :)
he still had to put it away and with added pressure of elimination... it was great...
the only qualm i had with dhoni was... why wait so late...?
I agree with SP when he says that Dhoni shouldn't have left it so late... I remember in the last Twenty20 World Cup in England, Dhoni again left the attack till very late against England... In fact, the first attacking shot he played in that match was on the last ball of the innings against Sidebottom when India needed 7 or 8 to win!
It went for a 4, but too late! India was knocked out... Dhoni's 'responsible' approach also cost India T20 matches played in New Zealand on the last tour... I guess he needs to get his timing right about when to attack in T20s... Still has some way to go...
I agree SP. It wasn't Dhoni's fault. I am only expressing my surprise at such poor quality of bowling for by two quality bowlers. They did not even attempt a yorker in the last two. Now with all the stories going around, my suspicion is only getting strengthened. As I said, hope I am wrong and the match was won by CSK genuinely.
MSD was cool as kheera yesterday and no wonder CSK ran away with the kheer. Actually missing kheer and could not help importing it here too:)
bala... the question which naturally arise here is... match fixers can make bowlers bowl rank bad ones... but can they make batman scoring six off them...?
@N.Balajhi__________Thanks Bala for the praise, it's your motivation that shows.
You people keep the debate going, I keep listening from the sideline. :)
SP if bowlers can be fixed then quality batsmen need no fixing. Bowl a half volley or a long hop 9 out of 10 times quality batsmen will send them packing over and beyond boundary lines. If they know what's coming it will only help them more.
But then yesterday's match may not be part of a deal and Dhoni may have played a genuine knock. That's what his emotions conveyed. But honestly I am growing wary of IPL and especially with Modi at the helm.
@som__________nice say Som. Actualy i'm very fond of kheer too, so it'll be cool to talk about kheer.
heyy everyone ...just wanted to say ...
well keep aside the confidence for once and just rewind Dhoni's reactions on the win - boyy punched himself on his face like a boxer!!...cooommmmooonnn ..I can do it anytime you want ... thats what M S DHONI is all about and the thunderous sixes was all the aggression and pumping adrenalin he hides behind his "not so tensed" looks
