india vs sri lanka test series... an unfinished business...

shared by straight point on Sunday, March 07, 2010

though many go yuck at the mere mention of another india vs sri lanka series... but i agree with dravid here...

To be honest, from this team's point of view, for us to go back and play in Sri Lanka again is something of a good thing. I know we've played them often enough, but we haven't really won there. Sanjay was part of a team that won there, in 1994, and we haven't won a series there after that. We were pretty disappointed with the way we played the last time. From our point of view, it would be nice to go back there and win another series there. The more the merrier

until unless we avenge that 'mendis' test series in their own den... i won't even say india sri lanka test series is a passé...

Nice that you have picked it up SP. This is a point the 'experts' have missed.

To be the best test side, India needs to beat not only Aus in Aus and SA in SA, but also SL in SL. If I recall correctly Steve Waugh's team had unfinished business ONLY in SL and India. SL they completed without fuss and then they lost the Final Frontier.

Point is - India VS SL Tests in India is a bore. The same in SL is a vitally important series.

your comment has beautifully enhanced the post LI... couldn't put it better...

SL at home is altogether different proposition... and should be looked that way... and until unless we have "balle balle at galle" and beyond... i won't bite any bit of yuck campaign... :)

I doubt Mendis will even be a part of the Test setup when India next visits Sri Lanka for Tests. I would have loved to see the Indians mastering their past nemesis on their way to taming the Lankans in their own den.

shri... as far as mastering on mendis goes that was proved beyond doubt in last test series when he was dropped coz of his ineffectiveness in not only taking wickets but leaking runs...

so, to me, the only unfinished business is beating sl in their own den... apart from beating oz and sa of course... :)

Seeing as Murali retires in Oct, the new spin twins could be Herath and Mendis.

nc... i thought that the proposed series will be in june-july..?

Wasn't aware of that.

i might be wrong too... :)

Either way, gng by Murali's test form he's not always a given - recall he sat out of a recent test, and Mahela/Sanga complemented him on that.

But as with Bhajji, Murali is the first choice spinner, and then if he falters they pick Mendis or Herath.

of course thats that...

but somehow i feel they won't go with 2 spinners... with the emergence of mathews and may be fitter malinga they have pace options coz i don't think both herath and mendis can trouble this indian batting line-up...

Australia didn't come to India every year in order to conquer its final frontier. Dravid's thoughts are from a very narrow perspective. Sure it would be good for the Indian team to enhance its credibility, but why the hurry?

when was the last time we visited sri lanka for tests...?

mahek... if you, for a moment, think from dravids, laxmans prospective the hurry is obvious... they are not getting chances to play at international level as much as some of their peers... i dare say even sachin would like to encash the amazing form he is in... you never know how your body will cope after a year or so...

We played 3 tests in Lanka less than two years ago. So what if time is running out for these guys? Do we schedule another series in Lanka if we lose this year? Maybe we should play in Australia every year in the hope that we'll win a series and the oldies can walk into the sunset.

yes... i would definitely so... as said in post as well as during the comments... defeating sl in sl is unfinished business... :)

Great dig, SP

while i am not sure if the test series holds any interest for the audience, even if it were unfinished business... it does make it interesting for dravid, laxman, and may be sachin to go there one more time to win the tests...

P.S: To God, please God make this India's last chance in SL for another 5 years

thanks ankit... completely agree with you let them win this time and then doze off for 5 years as far as another SL series goes... :)
