and exactly how this is slap... sorry stinging slap on ipl face...?

shared by straight point on Wednesday, March 24, 2010

kallis is doing very well with bat... and before his yesterday's dismissal... he remained not out in all previous outings at ipl this season...

kallis has impeccable technique is the fact known to many... the only question was whether his style of batting is suited to t20 cricket... perhaps coz of which he suffered the ignominy of not being selected for inaugural t20 world cup that too at home...

but in this season of ipl he has come with all guns blazing... he is not only making runs at brisk pace without compromising on technique... but also seeing bangalore royal challengers through...

but tell me, as the opening line of wisden article by alex bowden suggests, exactly how kallis doing good at ipl is a stinging slap on its face...?

ipl is not only providing platform to players like kallis to show the non-beleivers that one can still score quickly without compromising on technique front but it is also providing them a spring board to launch their t20 careers in their respective national teams...

isn't the slap is on CSA's face who did not believe in his abilities...?

My friend, it is possible that some time back we might have exchanged opinions that reporting and recording of this game needs to change. It has been and still is too skewed to be reliable history.

Today what Wisden says, even if what it says is as yellow as its jacket, people take it lap it up as holy water. Tomorrow that is recorded history. Credibility of everybody is questioned except of those they choose not to. Make no mistake, cricket, beaneath all the smooth talkers contains plenty of discrimination, jealousy and hate.

I will quote Harsha here on something similar -
Harsha Bhogle: "love it when overseas media derides ipl.this is not chest thumping, just a quiet satisfaction at an indian product doing well"

It is important for correcting this anomaly reportage..especially in the English language... which is still completely in the hands of those who don't want fair reporting unless it is to their advantage.

Unfortunately, those proficient in English language in these parts of the world, and who have the tools and access to media outlets, are busy making their pounds and dollars and staying clear.....preferring the English concept of fair play and coverage instead. It is very different from fair play per se.

So bloggers and websites who have authors with astute minds like yours must expose such lying, manipulation and hypocrisy that goes around cricket reporting and recording.

Sorry about bringing all that on a nice blog like yours, but I sincerely believe what I said. My beliefs could be wrong of course.

sb... i fully agree with you and harsha.. no need to be sorry about that...

i won't mind a criticism on sound cricketing or administrative grounds but dropping adjectives like explicits without any apparent connection is just not journalism to me...

An example...as long as England were dominating Bangladesh, the English scribes were all England this and that etc. etc.

In the second test, till the tide turned ultimately in their favour late last evening, they were getting ready for their embarassment by switching to stuff like "Cook's young England side" etc etc. As if BD was dominating/pushing around an England U-16 team. The "young" prefix is quite subtle...if England had ended up drawing or losing, I am sure they'd have preferred to highlight the absnce of just two players...just two players from the regular England team of this season - Strauss and Anderson - as the excuse for thei defeat. But England is great at offering excuses and berating others...and since it is their language they show the same finesse as say an Indian has the same felicity in Hindi or Urdu etc.

Coverage in English must reflect a more balanced history than it is. But too many who can are brown sahibs still because they can speak/type a few words of English. People who can must correct this anomalous coverage and creation of historicalrecords.

right said sb... but don't you think they take readers for granted... untill unless they are writing for retards (sorry to use the word)...

in the age of fast communication and so vast source of info they are losing credibility at faster rate than sehwag dismisses the bowlers...

the time is not far when even if they will say sane things no body will believe them...

Ask the writer... may be he was told to write something 'which criticises IPl', and in a way links Kallis and IPL's latest money party.
