no ipl team left in inaugural champions league...

so the justice has been served...

all those who just could not see anything beyond money are rejoicing over it coz now at last they have got some much needed balm to rub on their enviously burning asses since cash registers of modi and/or bcci started ringing much to their utter dismay...

conveniently overlooking the facts about what in its first attempt itself champions league has achieved...

it has certainly brought teams like trinidad and tobago (fondly called T&T) into international limelight from the obscurity of wicb maze... T&T has really captured the imagination of fans across world... there is so much frenzy about this team that the talks have already started taking rounds that what if T&T plays real west indies... or for that matter who the real west indies are...?

much like lahore badhshahs managed to capture the imagination of fans during that now dead icl...

when was the last time domestic teams of any major or minor test playing nations got so much of international attention and the best part is that its just the start... it will not only intensify their individual domestic competition... but also the fans across world will be able to see the riches of talent... though in most abbreviated version of cricket... but something is better than nothing...

it has not only opened new avenues for domestic teams to not only make good money and showcase talent but also for the fans across world who were getting tired of seeing same set of players competing against each other with result being forgone conclusion...

but why would they highlight it...? not at all... coz all their energies were focused and consumed on the need to get some balm to rub on their enviously burning asses and in the form of elimination of all ipl teams from champions league... they have got it... so good for them...

so now that they will be busy rubbing it... lets enjoy it without any pretensions...

Its quite sad isn't it. A lot of these people don't even know why they're supposed to be disliking the IPL teams, but its become chic and its a viewpoint thats almost been forced down their throats by those with motivations that are not too difficult to see if you know where to look. Good for them, as you say, but now what, I mean schadenfreude can only bring pleasure for so long, right?

The glee is quite expected. India has been carefully installed as the villian in the world of cricket, and beyond in some cases. Anything anyone landing a punch - fair or unfair - is a hero in this world. Personally, these reactions are no longer upsetting. It is part of the deal...comes with whatever you take a lead in. Australia too suffered that when they were on top of the game and had all the wicked mouths that grow alongwith dominance. India may not have developed wicked mouths of the same quality and ability while achieving a degree of dominance in one aspect of the game. But that can change.

What does upset me, however, is the insipidness of Indian players.

Not just the prima donnas who play higher grades of cricket regularly for the nation, but the failure of second rungers, and those below that, to have progressed since the first IPL. When the uncertainity of being a sportsperson in India was removed forever from their lives.

Earlier, the argument was "what use playing?" Now, that doesn't hold true. In one stroke, they have recieved 1) money 2) an international stage to perform, and 3) fulfillment of their desire to play alongside/alongwith international players.

But have anyone been inspired to work on taking their game to the next level? Say like a Shane Harwood?

Two years is decent enough time to see if improvement has been stimulated or the effects of the stmulus have been redirected/misdirected.

Another point - state teams play together regularly...franchises do not. But that must be overcome by the new breed of Indian professional cricketer IPL envisages. It comes with the deal...you have to work on your game through the year and play with whatever combination you are asked to in whatever time.

I'll give it five years for change to happen...to overcome these adjustment issues. The next lot of IPL players waiting to be bloodedby franchises would be more in tune with this philosophy.

Hopefully...

thanks sb for very unbiased thoght provoking comment that has the making of a excellent post in itself!

needless to say while i agree largely that indian players have not delivered the way expected of them...but i think franchisees or respective team managements too are not showing enough confidence in them...

so even while pandey scored the only century in ipl-2 he must make way for kallis who has nothing to prove to world and anyway is not a long term prospects... having spent most of their money on international stars they think that only they will take them far... forgetting or shall i say ignoring that support cast too needed to be looked at... much like even amitabh bacchchan can't pull of a movie if the support cast is non existence and script is awry...

Ignore the blabbering that stems from the frustration of watching India calling the shots and making it a success as well. But at the same time, reality is the IPL teams left much to be desired.

yes som they could have fared better but say if both oz team would have got knocked out... would someone say that their domestic structure is doldrums...?

In a way it is great that no IPL teams qualified. If I were Modi, I would be ecstatic with this development. Now there are 3 countries which will watch the Champions League with some interest.

I just hope it does not become a trend. Because it is important for the IPL to be seen as a world class league with world class franchises that can win against regional teams.

The criticism about the CL from outside India is disappointing. The cynicism is troubling. May be from their point of view the franchise system undercuts the perceived value system of cricket. Much like how we perceive and loathe the overtly material western societies.

welcome golandaaz

i don't have any problem with them if they want to criticise CL, IPL based on their cricketing perceptions... but you glob across in web and you wont find anything but them talking about money... and then you think the one dimensional and narrowness with which their mind function...

tho i share your concern that ipl must be seen as top class and intense competition for its survival other it will be reduced to nothing but paid holidays as dale steyn once put it...
