mohammad kaif: the forgotten man of indian cricket...

shared by straight point on Wednesday, October 28, 2009

the man who once made ganguly take his shirt off at the balcony of lords is still living in hope to wear that team india's blue shirt once again...

in this interview mohammad kaif opens his heart ... his emotions... his sentiments bare...

an excerpt...

It was a strange time to be an Indian cricketer when Greg Chappell was coach, but no one was perhaps more unsure of his role in the team than Kaif. "I was shuffled up and down the order, and I didn't mind that too much. But I started having serious doubts about my ability because there was a feeling that they wanted me to change everything," he says.

"For example, the one part of my game that I was absolutely sure of was my fielding. I knew my angles, the area I could cover, how to move, how to leap. Suddenly I was told that I should try standing ten feet to my left, or five feet further back. As a result, I lost confidence even in my fielding."

do check it out... its worth your time...

ps: more on kaif...

If there is one cricketer my heart bleeds for it is Kaif...for all the Rainas, Sharmas and Pathans that get all those chances, he deserved at least one more run with the team

Oh, and belated Happy blog-a-versary SP :)

thanks mehga!

in the series oz won at india he played some good innings but paid the price of india losing the 'final frontier'... he was called into test team and dropped without given a look in...

and finds every tom dick and harry playing in challenger trophy but him...

indeed... my heart goes out to him... i wonder how he still keeps himself motivated...

Him not being considered for some of the national tournaments was grossly harsh. He has been among the top 10 run getters some time back in the domestic league.

He would have to put really strong performances now in the domestic championship to start being considered. After that, it is a matter of luck mostly in the form of the IPL.

Really sad how we let him slip off the radar.

isn't its irony scorpy that we will judge the caliber of player like kaif on the basis of t20 cricket... with no guarantee that he will get the chance to play in that too...?

but i guess its easier to get noticed there rather than in domestic games...

som... this goes to show that you need to have a godfather to be recognised as talent... ask pujara...

indeed homer mine too... tho how i wish that some of your optimism rubs on to the others... :)

yes Sp... that's how stupid the recent selection committee has been. They are all floating on the battery lead waste better known as Indian arrack.

interestingly put scorpy... :)

Rajasthan Royals behavior was the most appalling , they keep on playing so many batsmen who contributed nothing, but they somehow figure out beforehand that Kaif was going to fail!!!

straight point said...

indophile... there could be personality clash here... may be they wanted to have only one leader in the team... warne i.e.

hiii my future indian captain,

i am a great fan of yours since i have seen you playing for india.your natwest 2002 final innings(87 off 75 balls)is one of the best innings i've ever seen in my life.and you are the bestest fielder team india have ever got...i desperately want to see you back in indian team and i know you can...you are the only substitute to Rahul dravid after his retirement.give ur best and come to the national team

straight point said...

welcome pragnya... hope you will keep dropping by...

the matter is not he is capable or not or he can not string together compelling performances... the matter is whether our five wise men loosely called selectors... have an eye for him...

Unknown said...

iam sure he wud cm bk...once dravid retires,he is the next Dravid for me for his capabilities. Its his bad luck..the last test he pld he got a hundred...n then he dint get into the team.He is the one who started makin indian fielding look so easy...he was the 1st person to make it from the under 19 level.
