does pakistan really need a captain...?

shared by straight point on Wednesday, October 14, 2009

for once i don't think so...

there are so many lobbies working in pakistan to push their favorite player that there can never be an unanimous choice who pleases all and sundry...

so after every match lost or if they have some patience... after every series loss... there will always be cries of match fixing allegations... the easiest one coz the onus is not on you to prove it but on the party you are blaiming...

some '15 minutes fame' seekers will continue to defame the ongoing captain... and unfathomable things like loss in a sport will be discussed in parliament leaving all important hot and burning national issues aside...

so why subject only one player to it... what for other players get selected in a team... why other players in the team should be left off the 'previlege' to captain pakistan team...?

why can't they have a draw before the start of every match and whoever’s name comes out of that draw can be made captain for that match and later to face pet allegations at press conference or parliamentary board or both... depending upon the mood... if they happen to lose...

simple isn't it...?

this reminds me of a quote i read sometime back...

"team work is important... you can blame someone else..."

ah love the suggestion, lets decide the name of the captain in draw before every match or may be after every series. So we will end up having no pressure on captain go and feel easy but may also miss the passion to lead.

But wait who will be blamed for a loss, who will be the target of 15 minute fame stories? Who will be accused of all the fckng things then?

Let them have the non playing skipper as Indian tennis team used to have in Davis cup long back :)

I like the quote.

But this is really ridiculous. I wish someone would line up the politicians and shoot them already.

cheers AB!

tho i know you put it better than anybody... what about making a toon out of this post...? :)

welcome RS... hope you will keep dropping by...

exactly the point... when they will see so many faces as captains who would they blame...? hence the exercise will become pointless...

good idea sam... but unfortunately icc does not allow that... remember hansi cronje when he came in field with mic in his ear to take direct input from woolmer... somebody must be at helm in field...

cheers purna...

tho.. i am ready to land a rifle or two if the need be... for the sake of pak cricket... :)

John Buchanan tried that and almost all, including yours truly, bit his head off for it.

Deepavali greetings to you and yours.

greetings to you and your dear ones SB!!

but i sincerely believe that this can be right away implemented in pakistan's case... :)

SP

You will have to show it implemented successfully in India first then we might follow.

straight point said...

no? why wasim?

pakistan virtually plays the musical chair game after ever series (loss) already... why even try somewhere else...? ;-)

What are you talking about SP. Inzamam remained captain for many years, Malik remained captain for two years, its only Younis who has come under criticism too soon and all for right reasons.

straight point said...

little more attention to detail please... i said after every series loss... :)

So when did Pakistan changed a captain after every
Series loss. As I said before Inzi remained captain for a few years
Malik was appointed for two years and he almost completed his term. Strange things are happening under Younis people want more consistency or a change what's wrong with that.

Isn't India playing musical chair with its middle order. Only to find the right combination and more consistency. Does it mean that india should play without a middle order or they should continue to strive for a better combination.

straight point said...

yes wasim... indeed we are playing musical chair with our middle order while it should have been settled by now... but such is the fragility of selectors vision that they have put the doubts in the mind of some youngsters based on t20 evidences...

we are just not moving ahead... only taking rounds and rounds around that musical chair...

but what does it has anything to do with pak...? :)

SP

I was trying to explain that first all the captains Pakistan had got a decent run, secondly the argument regarding musical chairs I tried to give you an example that every team management and selection committee has to face criticism after a loss that doesn't mean that you should play with out a captain or a coach.
The example regarding India's middle order was made in this respect.

wasim bhai... there will always be a place or two in any team owing to injuries or bad form... but the same example can not be used in terms of captaincy which is what i was trying to say...

anyways we can always agree to disagree... tho i enjoyed the debate very much and thanks for being forthcoming on the issue... its always better to have an alternate views for healthy discussion... cheers!
