no sachin... splitting odi innings is not the solution...

shared by straight point on Saturday, September 05, 2009

there has been voices for splitting ailing one day internationals into two innings... now sachin too has endorsed the idea and said 50 overs games should be split into 25 innings each...

needless to say i do not agree with sachin or for that matter anybody who sees the future of odi's lies in splitting the innings... which i think is the populist idea driven by the success of t20 games...

i acknowledge that after the advent of t20... odis are looking increasingly meaningless... some coz of stagnancy issues... and some coz of poorly designed tours... just like the odis are being played after the high of ashes... but splitting the innings will only speed up the process of killing odis...

one why would you like to see two teams playing t20ish game back to back...?

but the biggest flaw is... if one team finishes first innings miles ahead of opposition either coz of huge score or pakistanesque collapse... second innings will be reduced to nothing but the exercise in motion... meant for the statisticians delight...

one can argue that this happens in tests too...

but sir, there you have an option for a face-saving hard fought draw...
