predicament of being dhoni...

shared by straight point on Wednesday, September 16, 2009

imagine...

when you have more than half the team which needs to be hidden in the field... thanks to robbing singh...

when you have bowlers who bowl in hope rather than conviction...

when you are forced to accommodate another senior who again needs to be hidden in the field... can't find his way out to score... in the disguise of an answer to your short pitch problems...

you can easily understand the predicament of being dhoni... no wonder he is aging fast and has already grown some gray hairs...

wonder how dhoni still keeps cool... when one feels like throwing them in the pacific ocean... as bedi once famously said... after seeing them field like kids on a slippery ground... bowl like as if they are allergic to leather... hence it needs to be dispelled quickly without thinking where its going...

and still dhoni somehow wins you matches... against all these odds...

now you actually start to wonder...

MSD would say he is fine with ugly win than beautiful defeat.

indeed som indeed...

the win is important but its easier to work out on problem areas when winning...isn't it?

SP,
It just bothers me that the problems in fielding have become worse and the bowling is going from directionless, to plain headless

He's a trickster, that Dhoni.

pRAFs...

the problem to all this is common... fitness... if you saw the match live then you would remember the instance when ishant was bowling and bishop was on air... ishant bowled good 4 balls and then bishop said that about how the fitness takes it toll on 5th and 6th ball coz bowler hufs and pufs by the time over comes to an end and how one sprays the ball... and ditto what happend... he gave away two fours (i think) in last two balls...

robbing singh is not asserting himself coz he has along with reluctant players formed a comfort zone where they are not bothered about going down to the tough drills... robbing singh must go... you can read in the link i have given in the post itself...

Now what about Ishanth? Where do you place him? Even Agarkar made merry for the first 50 odd matches. Hate to see what is coming.

straight point said...

indeed scorpy... i too dread the inevitable... its time he is sent to nca... coz more than our injured players he needs rehabilitation... urgently...

I plan to do that.

But I was just wondering, if anyone here uses WordPress, can something other than my blog name show up while commenting here? Like Kit Kat.

blogger gives the option of using a screen name that can be entirely different from your user name... look for the similar feature in wordpress... :)

Malik, yadi seniors ko import karna pada he to uske peeche reason yeh hai ki so called next Tendulkars and future stars were unable to step up.

And Kohlis, Rainas, Yuvrajs too drop the catch ,not just Nehras and Dravids.

we shud have a fair assesment!!

I think Dhoni has chosen wisely. He has chosen the lessor of the problem.

Dravid and a few others may have passed their glory days and they might not be fit as some of the youngsters but their overall impact on the game is still better than some of the yougsters who are struggling to play their role in the team.

sam uncle...

if you read my post carefully i categorically said more than half the team needs to be hidden in the field and we know how many 'seniors' are playing (2-3?) so my comment is directed at youngsters more coz they don't have excuse of age...

regarding why dravid is called up i think i have given detailed account of that in my previous posts here at sp and elsewhere

but if you insist here are links...

link 1 - decoding dravid selection

link 2 - why dravid selection is one-off thing

hope it suffice...

wasim i am not sure he has chosen lessor of problem...

dravid seems to be struggling big time with strike rotation... and in the finals he was dropped thrice in his effort of 39... with an added burden of another player to be hidden in the field... would you still say its good bargain...?

I still can't understand why are so many double standards in team selection. If some, now out seniors, were a burden some months back; why carry 35 somethings still.

straight point said...

yes ab... there is no consistency...
they can bring and drop player for any notion with straightest of faces...

There is no doubt that Dravid has lost his reflexes but I think he is the only senior who's selection is questionable but if you compare his batting performance he has out performed most of the juniors regardless of the dropped catches and occasional poor strike rate. The question is who are you going to replace him with? In my opinion he will be dropped when Guatam and Sehwag make a comeback but he will get a preference over some of the younger players.

As regards Tendulkar I don't see any problem with the way he is performing.

The question is who are you going to replace him with?

wasim the answere to this question lies in the fact that we won five odi series in all conditions and places on trott without dravid featuring in any of them...
