predicament of being amit mishra...

shared by straight point on Monday, September 21, 2009

you debuted in an odi six years ago... got discarded without given a proper look in... go back to domestic cricket... work hard... with an aim to fight your way back into team... in doing so get no less but about 300 first class wickets... you claw your way back into team... thanks to the timely injury of kumble... get first five-for on debut itself... against no less a team than australia... get branded as test match bowler...

you take all this in your stride... but who can keep a good man down... not ready to accept defeat... so its no coincidence that you become the second highest wicket taker in emerging players tournament on australian pitches... not so known to support spin bowling... ultimately get a call in odis too after a good six years of exile...

but what happens then...?

for all the places where you can play two front line spinners... srilanka should be counted as the first... you see rainas bowling... you see even yusuf pathan pretending spin... but you don't get a chance to play there as second spinner coz your captain thinks you are not good to stand even on spin friendly pitches to warrant a place in final eleven...

what can you do...?

what can you expect in south africa... other than being a member of touring party in champions trophy...

then you start to think... why i got selected in the team in first place... i would have been better off playing in an irani trophy or some domestic games... atleast i would have got the chance to play...

its not easy being amit mishra...

right said, why not play a specialist spinner, than roping in the part-timers.

That apart, no one wants to sit on the bench.

exactly... why not...? tho no one wants to sit on bench... but what else he is supposed to do to earn a place in final xi...?

how you will know what he can do or not until unless he plays...

I guess, the point is that you need to be in good books of MSD, which i guess amit mishra is not!

unfortunate but true ankit...

its pity that how one's career hangs at the whims and fancies of other... specially when there is no evidence to corroborate non-selection...

A good point. We don't have a medium pace bowling allrounder like Irfan, though Praveen Kumar does show some promise. But you have to wonder if even then they will pick Mishra along with Bhajji... guess he just needs to keep waiting till Bhajji gets injured?
