i share colonel's concern and its really a serious matter if this is the reason...but i would like to ask dilip that during your regime how many players were sent to national cricket academy to rectify this problem...?
rainas, rohits etc, though still considered youngsters but are with team india for quite a while now and its also not that they have suddenly developed the weakness against short balls...so what he exactly did during his tenure as chairman of selectors...?
i am not saying for once that bcci should not be blamed for doing nothing to rectifying the problem of some youngsters may have...but sir its very easy to criticise when you are not part of system anymore...
what about setting some precedence before new selectors who are going to take over from you...?
as i said the responsibility is mutual...the players in question should also take the blame on themselves for the 'chalta hai' attitude and doing nothing to improve their over all game...
if bcci is at fault for doing nothing...so are the players...coz nobody stops them to check into nca and seek professional help for any short comings they think should be addressed...to take their game to next level...
i hope rohit will do exactly that and won't wait forever for bcci to take a call...
but is he willing or just wait for another musical chair game to begin...?

Dilip Vengsarkar's opinions now sound regional and crap. He forced Rahul Dravid to resign in 2007 when he got India back on track after a disastrous 2007 WC. The tests in England were memorable....
the problem with the new batsmen is that they dont find time to go to the basics. they would play for india,then they would do an ad campaign and then IPL.
where is the time and the willpower ? when they are in the team and not doing good, they wont work to overcome deficiencies and when they get the boot, they remember that NCA exists!!

but even if they remember that nca exists only after getting dropped i think its fair deal...
they have age on their side and they must know that ipl will only happen to those who will be best otherwise they will have to see the show running from sideline...

True, SP. While I don't agree with Vengsarkar's opinion of Dravid in general, it is true that the youngsters need more training. I've rambled on this time and again. It's just that we started to see the shortcomings towards the end of the IPL and starkly in West Indies this past series.
There's is the rush to get into IPL and the focus seems to be on pinch hitting thereby removing the incentive to get the basics right, as Sam points out.

its only for the time being they can look to ipl for the escape of hard work in international cricket...
as i see it ipl will grow into intense tournament (if not already) where only the best in business will compete...crown will come to see only best...not the team discards etc...so in one way or other they WILL have to step out or risk seeing the fate sitting in sidelines...
remember there are not free lunches... :)
