in the euphoria surrounding dravid selection for men-in-blue... there was another remarkable comeback which went almost unnoticed...
...of amit mishra's...
if dravid is making comeback to team after two years... amit mishra is doing the same after the exile of six long years!!
he debuted for MIB in year 2003 against south africa in tvs cup held in bangladesh and within a week of his debut...was dumped unceremoniously from the odi team... only to resurface five years later thanks to kumble's well timed injury... but this time in whites against australia during home series... both times he debuted in second match of the series and both times india won against formidable opposition... in fact he took five wicket haul in the first innings of test match he debuted!
but even after making remarkable debut in test arena... somehow our captain cool dhoni... known to be the player who reads game well and ahead of many... never found him good enough bowler for limited over format...in spite of mishra's good show in ipl... both in india and south africa... almost branding him as 'test match bowler'...
but his good performances in ipl-ii in south africa and emerging players tournament in australia where he was second highest wicket taker... both performances coming in countries known to assist pace bowlers... finally made selectors take notice of his untapped potential and tilted the spot in his favor... though i must add here that i am equally disappointing for ojha who had to make way for mishra... instead of harbhajan singh... who is coasting unchallenged with team india without doing much...
at the same time i also hope that mishra will take things easy... he is naturally attacking bowler like all leg spinners are and should be... and in trying to prove a point things can easily go wrong way for him...
although he will be donning the blue... but i sincerely hope and wish that 'blues' are in store for opposition batsmen only...
welcome back amit mishra...!!

Finally he have been paid for his good performance in short formats of cricket. He should not waste this chance.
yes vikas...he should not waste this chance...but at the same time, as i said in post, don't want him to try too hard either...
Omit Mishra turns Amit Mishra. Congrats boy!
I don't count Ipl's performance as any major indicator.
I think Legspinners like kineria and Mishra who do not have speed variation like Afridi and Kumble can never be a huge success in the shorter format especially when in Odi's the pitches are so true and do not provide them much assistance.
He is a smart bowler though and might have some impact against non Asian teams but he will be harmless against Asian countries.
good selection for Mishraji. But then he should be in team for long. he cud get a chance to play only against weakened WI....
Bhajji would for sure feel a bit threatened if Amit gets going in SL tri series.
hahaha nice one som! :)
yes wasim...while the t20 performance can not be accurate indicator but you will agree with me more than skill the temperament of bowler gets tested there when batsmen are looking to slong anything which coming their way without worrying too much about the consequences and how ugly they look.
as for pace variation of afridi or kumble style...i am sure you would have watched ajmal troubling sri lankan batsmen more than afridi in odi series too...the pitches are going slower and lower and if a bowler can cut the pace with the variations of flipper, gugly and spining from rough that both mishra and kaneria can do they can be handy too...
and as for subcontinent batsmen remember even the likes of warne and murli don't have good records against us though they posses far more skills and more importantly experience...
sam no body can threat bhajji...not even he himself...he has got the blessing of immunity... :)
Som, and now commit Mishra.
But not Haley's commit, more frequently pls.
from omit to amit to commit...
hahaha...i can already see some future headlines nc... :)
SP
We cannot compare an Offspinner with a legspinner they are completely different.
In T20 when the batsman is looking to slog everything which comes his way he also becomes predictable and often offers many chances to the bowler, In Odi's the batsmen have a bit more time to build their innings and see off good balls.
Legspinners like Kineria and Mishra if they can't get any assistance from wicket they become too easy to handle,The pace of Kumble and Afridi does not allow the batsmen to adjust their strokes
once they misread and commit into a stroke, the mistake is usually fatal. It's hard to read which one is coming straight, moving away or sliding in especially because of the pace. Now if the same thing comes at a slower pace the batsman has much more time to adjust his stroke.
yes in odi's there is more time on batsmen hand but in the same way there is even more in test matches...isn't it wasim...?
so if the bowler has proven himself on biggest stage test matches that is don't you think he can be equally good in odis too...?
the problem with bowlers like mishra and kaneris is that they get branded as test match bowler...
here is what i wrote on similar lines few days back...
