why this discrimination between 'drama'...?

shared by straight point on Monday, July 13, 2009

whenever a test match runs for close finish the first thing many of us do is to write some derogatory comparison with 't20 drama'...as if t20 is the bastard child of cricket and to prove our loyalty to the first child of cricket i.e. test cricket...we must condemn t20 and whatever it offers to us...at first available opportunity...without wasting time...or we will be labeled as 'traitors' of cricket...

yes i too felt my heart skipping some beats...to the gripping drama that unfolded yesterday...but i feel the same way when an odi runs close...and for that matter even t20 runs close...

i have seen tempers running high between the fans of two teams even in a t20 match...last 'warm-up' game between india and pakistan in t20 world 2009 being the case in point...

i feel the same thrill...same excitement of triumph...in a winning cause in tight finish...i feel the dampening spirits after the tight finish in a losing cause...

i have seen the dropping jaws in anticipation of unknown when misbah looped that shot in sky in the t20 2007 roller coaster finals...the excitement thereafter knowing the catch is taken on indian fans faces and gloom written all over on every pak fans...how some jumped out of sheer thrills on winning and how some heads limped in frustration knowing that they could have won...

so why discriminate between the thrill...the excitement...the drama...when even our heart don't...?

why we can't simply except that...

a drama is a drama is a drama...

irrespective of the length of game...that is...!!

Yes but the length of the drama is shorter in ODI and even shorter in t20.

Of course the drama is always stronger in a final if this was the last test and Eng Aus were 1-1 then the Drama would have been even stronger.

thanks for your comment anon and welcome on blog... :)

Yes but the length of the drama is shorter in ODI and even shorter in t20.

the counter argument can be given that it take far more time like 4 days or some times even last hr of fifth day... to get drama going...

isn't it...?

Pan,

Some like delayed orgasm, some suffer premature ejaculation.

As they say it makes all kinds to make this world.:)

Thanks,

of course it takes more time but the drama is unique, it took 4 days to make it.
But that's the beauty of Test you just never know all it takes is a battling pair or two.

I am not belittling t20 or ODI all different pleasures, but I must admit transforming a draw into a victory like this is very test like and unique.

SP,

you already wrote what I was planning to write. 4 absolutely, fabulously boring days of test cricket with the great talents of Hilfenhaus/Siddle/Hauritz/Haddin/Anderson/Monty on FULL display. And then because of rains and lost time we get a tense 3 hour drama. And then David Lloyd comparing it to Ashes 2005..

Indeed Test Cricket is far superior to T20/ ODI. Point proved.

thanks namya...

i really gets pissed of when someone starts test article by referring to t20 in derogatory terms...as if for test drama to be proven great if they have ridicule t20 drama... :)

SP. two different kinds of drama. One is like a slow boiling flame on which you have put your ingredients, and hope for the aroma and taste of great food. Occasionally the lid is on and the pressure builds, then someone lifts the lid and there is a release, and that goes on, this slow screwing and unscrewing. In another, you have a quick fix, a pressure-cooked dal tadka, a KFC burger. Both have very enjoyable aspects, and it is only natural for someone to prefer one over the other. A matter of taste, that's all!

john...

yes...its certainly is the preference...or for that matter taste...

but the point is...if i like the taste of particular kind does this gives me license to belittle another...?
