so now we know what fawad alam has done...

though 'some people' (q this is my revenge) tried it...but doubts remained...

its nice when your curious question is answered in an emphatic manner like fawad has answered...

any youngster looking to grab the opportunity with both hands...gloves...pads and kit...look no further than his maiden century on debut...

after pak's crushing defeat in first match...he was included in the team...asked to open the innings...when he has never ever opened in any game so far (knowledge courtesy Q) ...saw his team getting bundled to paltry score of 90 including his first innings failure...he knew it for sure that the second innings can be the last innings of his international career if he won't succeed...the way we (over)react...specially in subcontinent...so this was the additional pressure, apart from the deficit of 150 runs, with which he walked into the crease to take guard...and with sheer application of skills, determination and focus...he has given pak a reason to smile...again...

i know for sure that there will be flurry of adjectives in the media and in blogsphere but i would like all of them and more importantly peoples from pakistan to leave him alone...don't hail him as next messiah of pak cricket...etc...etc...let the kid do his job sans unnecessary...unwanted pressure...of expectation...of repeating similar feats...or ridiculing him as fluke if he fails in next couple of innings...

» related bored story:
Fawad Alam is My Man!
in an era of rarity of specialist opening batsmen specially in tests...i wont mind if he is persisted with in opening position...provided he is game for it...but of what i saw him in this innings he reminds me very much of gautam gambhir when he debuted for india...coz in a way like him...fawad too plays too much across his pads making him prone to lbws or bowled dismissals...if the ball is swinging...reverse swinging...or seaming...i hope with the confidence of this innings...and given the space kid needs now more than ever after this new found darling status...he will work on this aspect of his game...under the able guidance of another alam...intikhab alam...

till then lets enjoy and savor the moment...!!

Prima SP ! this was the balancing that I was looking for in the blogosphere .

I know how the fans an the media at times ruin cricketers in such times . Well hope he is not the next Yasir Hamid in the making . well as you said the next steps for him is to at least save this match , savour the success and move on with continued hardwork.

Lets see if this innings can pull things back for Pak or not . Its just stumps @ day 2 an 9 sessions of play left . would be a great series if Pak level it . Who says tests cant be interesting .

All 3 tests (PAK / SL , Ashes , WI / BAN) currently are in some way giving me the T20 thrill.

thanks SM and welcome to the blog...hope i will live upto your expectations... :)

as Q have put it...pak need to take care of 'colombo mornings'...

the thing with pak is that you don't know for sure which pak will turn up tomorrow...

Haha I like how you put 'some people' in quotation marks ;-)

I support your plea.. he should not be hailed as the next best thing or the solution to opening problems or anything.. he has made the most of the opportunity given to him and hopefully he will continue in the same vein..

Interesting comparison with Gambhir.. there's a bit of Katich and Chanderpaul in the technique as well..

Hey SP I am too small a twig to set expectations. I should admit that straight points has been right on the nail head as always .
By the was , this was awesome .. "..you don't know for sure which pak will turn up tomorrow. " LOL

Q...how could i let the 'opportunity' go away this easily... ;-)

yes to put things in perspective he was given an assignment in which he did well...no time to rest on it as there is still some work to be done by him...

maybe the celebrations can wait till pak wins...which the way sri lanka played in first innings despite in driver seat is entirely possible...

of course pak is also perfectly capable of messing it up again...so in a way this is the match in which the team who won't messes up from now on will win it... :)

I am afraid SP thats not possible he was thought as the messiah even before he played a single test innings.

Fawad has talent and above all he has the determination to stay at the wicket in this respect he is way better than Yasir Hameed if he is used properly by Younis he will have a long career.

The wicket has become way too easy to bat but still the way he accumulated his runs by working the ball around tells me that he has a bright future.

As regards his shuffling problem their are some other players in international cricket who shuffle across in the same manner but they have survived,it's a bit early to make a judgement on him he is just a rookie who has worked hard to earn his place and he should be given a fair chance to establish himself.

thanks wasim for more insight on fawad...

without taking the credit away from his knock...i was not referring to his shuffling problem...i was referring to his tendency to play way to across his pads...as you have said the wicket has eased to its easy to play across coz there isn't any movement on offer...

there is still some work left for pak to do and if his senior colleagues applies themselves the way he has...pak win can not be discarded...
