sorry gary...i don't agree with you...

shared by straight point on Saturday, May 09, 2009

i read this news on cricinfo in which gary kirsten noted that more than the complacency factor...fatigue is going to be the biggest challenge for team india in t20 world cup...

but my disagreement with gary is not on this statement but what he went ahead on stating that india will be playing with only two full time spinners in t20 world cup...

one i know he is talking about...pragyan ojha...

but harbhajan singh? full time spinner...? in t20 format...?

c'mon garry...after so much time you have spent with team india as a coach...i expected better assessment from you...

here are bowling performances of players in ipl 2009 so far...included in t20 world cup...for your reference...

now decide for yourself...who is part time bowler...who is full time...

the bowlers with lessor skills are not afraid to flight the ball...getting more purchase from the same pitches...getting more drift...and more importantly wickets...but the bowler with more than 500 international wickets and 600 first class wickets...is reluctant of doing the basic things even an average spinner is doing even in t20 games...is bowling darts after darts...match after match...

why?

is he afraid...? is he more interested in protecting his so called 'the turbanator' image he has left long way behind...? does he even deserve to be there in t20 world cup squad...?

at least i don't think so...

ps:

was it me...or anyone else also noticed that in yesterday's match between mumbai indians and delhi daredevils...harbhajan appeared as if he was suffering from constipation...?

the entire MI outfit has been constipated SP!

if it wasn't my second love winning against my first love, i would have been as well, probably, for the way they lost!

hahaha ankit...yaah right now they all are constipated enough to 'deliver' win... ;-))

Spot on SP! I won't be surprised if the likes of Rohit, Raina, YP, Yuvraj end up on top of Bhajji in terms of wickets and average...

Speaking of which Rohit has just taken another 2 in an over!

But u and I both know that if India are to play 1 spinner in the XI during the T20WC, it will be Bhajji and not Ojha..

thanks Q...

indeed it will be very disappointing...but i guess you are right...bhajji will play...

Gaurav Sethi said...

Don't think Bhajji deserves to be in the MI squad Has already cost SRT this IPL, might cost MSD in the WC. Then again, under MSD he doesn't have to advise the captain.

SP, where's Mishra?

You are right mate :). Unforutnately Harbu would still play.

IPL has thrown up some more options for MS : Raina, Sharma and Pathan besides Yuvraj and Sehwag.

May be Harbhu should stick only to Tests. He isnt effective in ODIs either.

they overrated Kumble all through his career and now they do the same with Bajji...YAWN!!!

I think Jakati has taken more wickets as well.

straight point said...

yes NC...you were the first to call for his scalp...

how i wish that nobody convince MSD to bowl bhajji... :)

straight point said...

that would be wonderful sam...if he limit himself to tests...but we all know its not going to happen...soon...

straight point said...

NC, RS

little more attention to details...i said in post that only those players who are selected in t20 world cup squad... :)

Im starting to wonder what sort of hold u have on Mumbai.. u call for sachin to drop down the order.. he does.. u call for bhajji to perform.. he does..

Finally they chose a correct batting order

it is right that we have ojha, amit sharma, yusuf to replace HS. but for t20 format, he is useful...he can play with bat too...

straight point said...

Q...this is called...know your enemy (MI) more than your friends (DD)... ;-))

straight point said...

ASF...at least kumble had the guts to fight it out maan...

straight point said...

kinka...

he surely can play with bat...but i am not sure he can score with it too... ;-))

Harbhajan seems to be not happy to play for MI...

Harbhajan surely is half the bowler he was. Ojha should pip him to T20 side as a the leading spinner.

In MI vs BRC first round match, Harbhajan bowled just 2 overs when Kallis and Uthappam were creaming others. He wasn't expensive in that match. It was very strange to see under bowled. May be he lost interest in MI or Sachin did not trust him to deliver.

thanks for the link SV...

hmm...it seems there is something brewing inside MI camp...

straight point said...

yes bala...on current form ojha should pip him out...but we also know its not gonna happen which is pity...

it will be interesting to see how dhoni does in england...coz he too might be observing things around him viz a viz indian players performances...

Balajhi said...

Yes SP but I wish we are proven wrong this time. Ojha is doing well and is confident. May be they can play Harbhajan as the second spinner. If it's one spinner then it should be Ojha. He deserves it.

Where do you think Dhoni could go wrong or do well in England? I expect excellent batting conditions for T20 world cup. In the absence of bounce that they are getting in SA now, spinners could struggle a bit in England. What do you think?

straight point said...

bala...there is no need for second spinner...with rs, raina, ys, yp and jadeja available to fill the second spinner slot...i guess...

what remain to be seen is dhoni willing to take hard decision...i think he should...it will benefit not only team but bhajji as well...for it will give him much needed shock (and break) to evaluate his approach towards game and plan how he want to do things...

competition for places always augurs well for the team and if we have better options available we must explore it...

as far as dhoni is concerned i am not that impressed with his captaincy in ipl-2 even after him winning matches of late...

specially the way he is handling m vijay and badri...he is not allowing them to settle into any kind of rythem and hence not using their full potential...

of late he seems to have developed fixed notions about players and situations hence lacking the desired flexibility...(it took him six matches to realise badri is getting wasted down the order and even more matches to realise that patel, joginder and gony are eating up places)...that second spinner is required in middle overs to aid murli...etc etc...

Balajhi said...

Good observations SP. I agree with you on Dhoni. His preference for some players for some match situations is really annoying. I always feel Sehwag is a much better bowler than Yuvraj but Dhoni always prefers Yuvraj. His handling of Badrinath in the first phase of this IPL is highly questionable.

Yes Sehwag, Raina, Rohit, YS and YP could easily fill in the second spinner role. Even one over each will do. But who is going to drop Harbhajan? There is no Greg to help.
