dreams do come true…

shared by straight point on Thursday, January 22, 2009

if you have the courage to follow your dream in the face of adversity…if you believe in yourself…if you are prepared to work hard and if you are ready to go to any length to fulfill it…dreams do realise...

that’s what the kid in photograph did…the name is ravi varma…

when the harsh reality struck him that he may not represent india at the highest level...he did not let his dream of playing cricket die…he left his home to go to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in search of opportunities...worked there at a car rental shop and at the same time played for a local cricket team and now will be representing them in world cup qualifiers matches to be held in april…

for ravi, the son of mr. kishori lal who runs a small cycle repair shop it is nothing but a dream comes true…

My son was mad about cricket and wanted to represent India in the World Cup. But our family's financial condition did not allow him to continue with the sport. Many times I told him to leave cricket and find some work.

I have no words to express my happiness. Ravi playing international cricket is a dream come true for all of us. We are praying that he will help his team win all the matches.

ravi's father mr. kishori lal…

...and this is what the man himself, ravi, has to say...

When I arrived in Abu Dhabi, I had nothing with me. I started playing in a B-Division Trophy but graduated to the A-Division, which is equal to the Ranji Trophy, after just one year. That’s when I caught the attention of the Emirates selectors and they encouraged me. Without Deepinder paaji, I would not have been here. He has given me a reason to live and realise my dream.

Do check out his story here, here and here

this is the type of story which keeps you reminding that all is not lost…that hard work still pays…that the life is nothing if you don’t have dream…that if you follow your dream like a religion the forces up there will have no option but to bless you eventually…

i will end with this beautiful quote…

Victory always starts in the head. It's a state of mind. It then spreads with such radiance and such affirmations that destiny can do nothing but obey.

frankly i'm surprised why more players don't jump ship and play for other nations.

Stuart McGill to England ten years' back

Rohan Gavaskar to Bangladesh eight years' back

Andrew Symonds to Afghanistan 3 years' back

Good show. There's an Indian (or PIO) in every team except Australia, Lanka, BD and Pakistan.
