are your batters better than mine...?

shared by straight point on Monday, March 09, 2009

this seems to be the mantra of playing short version of game these days…

the boundaries are getting shorter…where even tailenders fancy their chance to tonk front line bowlers almost at will…and less said about pitches the better…

all in the name of providing great spectacle…

we are made to believe that this is the type of matches spectator wants to see…by ‘protectors’ of game…by ‘producers’ of game…

but ask any cricket fan…what he/she wants to see…

the maximum no of sixes scored in a day where bowlers are there to make up for the numbers…

or

when batsmen will have to earn their runs...

when bowlers too look forward to bowl their quota of overs…

when its battle between bat and bowl and not between your bat and mine…

when hitting six can really be called ‘skill’ and not just putting bat on ball in air…

the answer will be simple…

we want to see the battle…not slog fest…

we want the worth of time and money we invest and we want to see a cricket ‘match’…

are we asking too much...?

the most succinct post on the state of affairs in new zealand...

Boss, there is test cricket for that man. Let's beat the dhol...rather let's beat the boredom at limited overs.

Even 50-50 and 20-20 have their own tactics.

If test cricket is like a traditional 9-yard sari clad nymph whose moves beneath you have to guess...50-50 is like a jeans and tee shirt and 20-20 is like more current...say a skirt and somesort of taktops or noodlestraps.

Each one has its moves, nuances, moods to choose from.

And what about 5-5 format soul. What kind of outfit is it.Something which ends even before it begins. :)

@ SP

I agree with you, whatever be the reason, but hard hitting games are making the cricket in general dull.

SB!...where is test cricket...the dickheads like harper and curators are robbing it daylight...

ODIs (specially after emergence of T20) are anyway facing more threats and if we keep on getting them reduced to slog fest than more and more will chose T20 anyday coz thats what T20 is all about...slog fest...

i still believe 100 overs are still enough to make a match of skills...

Agreed that the grounds are small but by just blaming the pitches and the bats we are taking the blame away from the bowlers of both teams..They bowled pathetically..

this way i watch fewer ODIs, and remember even fewer, and it's nuthin to do with my memory.

They should get Franklin in there. Try inswing. Nothing to lose!

Need some inswingers

Pitches are too flat.

I assume the pitches will be back to their lively best in New Zealand for the test series and hopefully that would test whether this team still boasts of only paper tigers.

you have been generous to them by saying pathetically...namya :)

basically they bowled dirt and specially our bowlers...harbhajan and munaf...

but my sentiments were not limited to what happened at christchurch...

yes NC!...if we have to see slog-fest we will see T20...they are certainly hastening the process of ODI death...

YM

since his return he has played against ntini, flintoff, watson, siddle etc who are predominantly inswing bowlers...

though he still struggles at times) he seems to work hard on this aspect...and his leg side play has improved significantly which has also helped him playing in swinging deliveries...

so the margin of error has even lessor bowling to him which is why he has been scoring at such a strike rate...

scorpy

thats true...but it will also test their batsmen more than ours coz now we have got kind of attack for which opposition will think twice preparing green top... :)
