a case for rohit sharma...

competition hotting up the cap...

of late we have been hearing so much about rohit that sometimes i feel he has really made it…

some feel (including your truly) that he has not lived upto his potential…some feel that he should not be in team at all…

though his numbers are erratic, no doubt about it, but sometimes one has to see beyond numbers to see the real worth of a player…

he has good technique...has good array of strokes…plays with straight bat more than any other player in the team…though looks bit lazy at times but his strokes do pack some punch…

hayden's farewell &
thou shalt be proven wrong @ BCC!
for me he should be permanent no.3 player in the ODI team and should not be fiddled around in line up so much…in any case we have many players who are aggressive to overtly aggressive…we need a player who has sound technique...can hold on to innings specially in conditions other than subcontinent…

no wonder he had reasonably good tour down under where he impressed many with his straight play…the extra bit of time he seem to have in his hand to play strokes...ability to find gaps with relative ease etc etc…all in all the hallmark of a good player who has potential to become even better with some more experience…

so what’s stopping him then…?

he too is responsible for cutting his innings short with wrong shot selections…seems to put on some extra flab around his waist…a definite sign indicating that early fame seems to have stuck him…which can divert the focus from game a bit…which has made him what he is today…

but we must show some patience with him...he really is good potential in our hand…and should not be discarded in jiffy…i am sure that garry kirsten and upton must have spotted this by now…will definitely be working with him to sort out issues and his focus towards game...timely guidance under watchful eyes can/will do a world of good to him...

to me…he is definitely a player worth investing…and i am not even a mumbaiker... :)

i think he has got the ian bell syndrome.

all the shots in the book, but has forgotten the page numbers, and has lost the book as well.

welcome corp ho...

funny but apt description... :)

but at the same time we will have to understand often he comes when there over are far less and pressure to paddle run rate without getting time to settle in...team management have also failed in giving him clear role...

he is young and lets hope will learn fast or else...i think he knows it...

SP, one look at rohit sharma, and it looks like a 'case of beer for rohit sharma'.

msd's preferred raina to rohit @3, while rohit's been slotted as a finisher either before or after msd.

with RS, get the feeling he's not all there. and with modern sport telecasts, appearances are a biggie.

Good one Corp Ho.

in nz things will change NC...msd won't use him as finisher for sure there...

beers! oops...i meant cheers ;-)

SP,

They can play a slogger/finisher like Uthappa instead of Sharma.

I would much rather Sharma play the A tours and the Ranji Trophy and work on his game.

Once he gains consistency, he is an automatic for the Test team.

Cheers,

homer...don't we have enough sloggers already in our odi team?

SP,

Then what is Sharma's role in the team?

He comes in as finisher, and he is inconsistent.

Wouldnt we better served by picking a man for that role who can actually fulfil that role?

Sharma can, in the meantime, hone his cricket skills - he is too good to be sitting on the sidelines for long.

Cheers,

homer i have seen more senior colleague than him looking confused coz they are not given clear role in the team...and not everybody can be finisher/floater...

some players do need a settled position and i don't see any problem with that given we can extract best out of them...

we have seen kaif's and recently uthappa's career getting shortened coz they become victim of this very notion...and i genuinely feel if we carry on with him like this we will lose him as well...

Yes, RS is really enthusiastic player and he can be promoted in line up to get more worth ...but as a finisher, no doubt he is doing like senior/experienced player should do.

thanks kinka...nice to have some support on rs... :)

Gmabhir has done nothing wrong at number 3, neither has Raina when Sachin hasn't played.. so how Rohit fits in, i'm not too sure. I see him making his mark in tests more than in ODIs.. While Raina will prob make his mark in ODIs rather than tests..

Q...that's the another 'advantage' we have when sachin plays... ;-))
