Why the Fuss...

i truly believe hayden when he says he innocent...

he is innocent. period.

i know you are feeling uneasy. so let me explain...

whatever he said in radio interview was said in true spirit of the game...of 'hard and fair' cricket...he even hurled abuses on air in the 'spirit' (of cricket?)...

he did not murder anybody...even if he (or anybody from oz team) commits murder will be 'in true spirit of the game' so he will be innocent then too...

CA will say coz he was not booked for murder earlier, we are leaving him with just a reprimand...

so what the fuss is all about...

move on guys...(read everybody apart from oz team...)

and hail the spirit of game, oz way or no way i.e.

Symmo you beauty...

you are just simply incredible symmo!!

for you have perfected the art of being 'invisible' in ground...

especially to species called match referees...

they cant see you.

they cant hear you.

and even if on occasions you make appearance and tell them that your were the person who instigated the 'process'

they laugh it out as a joke!

INCREDIBLE!!

IPL Vs Cricket

So the bidding is over...and we are seeing lots of smiling faces around...some are surprised (ponting, macgrath) some are stunned (symonds) and some are simply overwhelmed...

for purist there are concerns of invasion of oodles of money...its effects on cricket we all love...some are concerned about shifting of power base to subcontinent or more aptly india...there are uneasy, but i dare say helpless, voices who are ranting about how india controlling world cricket through money...

but overall i am not overtly concerned...

for two things...

first, when everybody was falling over each other for his share of ipl pie there was one one outstanding almost unreal gesture from vvs of refusing to be an icon so that hyderabad team has more budget to bid players...its takes courage, the character to stand out from rat race...somehow i feel cricket will be in good hands and that game will take care of itself...

another was Manoj Tiwari's story...

i read somewhere that when he heard his 'sold out amount' he was simply numb for some moments and when he regained his composure he said he would like to build a house for his parents who struggled all through their life to put them in english medium schools...

tiwari is not alone...there are lots of players who have come from very humble background and seeing their dream are coming true...its not as if that playing for india was anything less...but so much money overnight is something else...you do need money as well to realize dreams to life...

so i am happy...coz first ICL and then IPL have done their bits to realize so many dreams...

but i am concerned too...about cricket...no...robotic cricket...

with so many players from different zones and countries (not necessarily from their own as ishant will be playing for kolkatta while he is from delhi) will be playing with each other...and emphasis will be on all aspects of game...batting...bowling...fielding...we will see players becoming as uncle from cricket with balls says PROBOT...

are we assembling a line of PROBOTS...??

coz every body will be playing same cricket...no flair of a region...no flair player...just simply plain robotic cricket...

do you share my concern?

Transformation!!

we all keep on hearing this little story of how otherwise normal person transforms into a great actor once the directory shouts 'action' and camera rolls!! he becomes just another person...he becomes the character he is playing...

same seems to happen with Dhoni...

we all know how he was at sea in test series...but once the focus shifted to ODIs...where he is captain...he just don't seem to be same dhoni who played for india in test series...

he seems to enjoy leadership...and the word 'captain' transforms him into something special...i am not saying he was not special earlier...but he likes leadership and thats when his true self comes to fore...

maybe the feeling that he owns this group of youngsters...maybe the responsibility of being leader...and urge to show them the way...or maybe that now he is on his own being the 'captain' of the side is doing the trick...

otherwise how one can explain that same guy who could somehow not to put bat on bowl...gets transformed into a batsmen who just don't seems to get out...no poking of bat outside off stump...no confusion of where the next run is going to come from...infact india never looked like loosing wicket whenever he stepped in...in this ODI series...

can you shed more light?

A case for Kaif...

while i was visiting my friend soulberry's latest post on Duleep Trophy Experiment...

it got me going to don the devil's cap again...

...and this time its for Kaif...

does this name ring a bell to you??

...yes...the same forgotten man of indian cricket...the best captain india will never have...the player who is still carrying the scars of being labeled as failure...

i wanted to put it earlier but somehow kept it on hold...but soublerry's mention in his post and topicality of the issue made me come up with post...

topical did i said?

if you saw yesterday's between india and srilanka match live there was discussion going on...between i guess harsha and gavaskar... regarding labeling the failures...that system should also keep discarded players like him in radar coz they have got valuable experience and know what to expect in different conditions and certainly are not that old...and then Kaifs name came up...

i found myself nodding to what they were discussing and needless to say agree with them...

kaif have not done that badly in recent times at domestic level...he has the experience and still is live wire in the field...add to that a team man to core...basically every quality our current setup is carving for...but seems to have no takers...

what more he should do to be in the reckoning again unless selectors have completely forgotten him...he can be our ready made replacement of dravid type batsmen...at least in ODIs...

current system, on the look of it, somehow seems to favor the dashers and quietly but surely alienating itself from this genre?

the other day dhoni said that by giving these youngsters their chances now we will have crop of players by world cup who will have experience of 80-100 ODIs...would have gone through almost all situations game can throw at them and they will be knowing exactly what to expect from them and what is expected from them...

no problem with this vision...

but here is a guy who fits all these requirement to the 'T' and still spending his time in wilderness...

i know there were some faults in him as well...but who is perfect?...

don't you think the players like him should at least be given another chance to redeem themselves before its too late...given the feelers that they still belong to the system...the setup...

or more importantly...

do we really don't need players like Kaif??

it will be interesting to know your views...

respect the fact...

for batting...

every youngster selected for this series should look this series as make or break series and put price tag on his wicket…nothing less than over my dead body will do…if they are to be called future of indian cricket...

if not for anything than just for the fact that they have got this golden opportunity bcoz collective experience of over 20k runs has been sacrificed for them....and they should respect that…and remember that...

for bowling...

i can safely predict that if our current lot of pacers are handled well any team will think twice before giving us green top...

it was a sight to watch ishant and sree bowling yesterday...and it felt nice to see that now we have got bowlers who can give it back what our batters have received all their life...

moment of the day!!

for those who saw the match live...and for those who didn't...the moment of the day was when tiwari was sitting next to sachin soaking up whatever he was sharing…like a true student!! where on earth one can get this experience...

the senior was preparing the younger one before passing on the baton...priceless!!

first step towards long journey...

when team india will step inside the filed on 3rd Fab...we all will be seeing beginning of a long journey towards world cup in 2011...

there's only sachin left which is our link between past and present and selectors have taken very bold step of blooding youngsters...come back players...and for once for the sake of poor selectors i want team india to do fairly well otherwise we all know how the reactions will be...

they have prefect platform...away from our every hungry 'over the top praises in one second and writing obituary the next second' type of overzealous media...

CB being longest ODI series they will hopeflly be able to play more hopefuls and see how they respond to pressure cooker situations coz aussies will come hard and they will be tested to core...good outing here will do world of good to their confidence and what better platform to show the metal they are made of...

it would also be interesting to see the approach of sehwag...what different he will do this time...coz for all his game suited to ODIs he is not so successful...

how sachin will approach games now onwards...being the only senior left in the team will he take his role too seriously and become the drafter...or will he just enjoy out there and rub the confidence to his younger ones...

i will also be keeping an eye on dhoni...he seems to have dig an imaginary hole and somehow don't look like coming out of it...i think he is also getting found out by bowlers...it wont be easy for him to clear ropes with bigger grounds here...and how he will pace his innings will determine how long he will go from there...

while they will be doing their bit over there it would also be interesting to see how our selectors, and particularly media will react to possible defeats...will they embrace defeats with the resolve of vision...will they stick to their stand or wilt at the drop of hat like what happened in SA series...is remained to be seen...

coz irrespective of what we would like to see our media and system reacts in his own way...

that a program was running called 'Match ka mujrim kaun?' (who is the culprit of match?...pardon me for this translation) even if we won the match sums up for me...

anyway folks, being optimistic, i am sticking my neck out...and here's my x1 for first match

sehwag
sachin
gambhir
raina
rohit sharma/karthik
robin
dhoni
pathan
harbhajan
ishant
sree santh

what is your team?
