why dravid...why?

no looking back?

i have been the most ardent fan of you and many times have said that you are the most underrated player for what you have done to indian cricket...

i have also, more often than not, dared to say that you have saved and won more matches for india than other fab 3 put together...and nobody has come back to me saying how dare you say that...

coz they know its not an exaggeration...

but that was past...

the rahul dravid of present is not even a pale shadow of his true self...

every innings comes with added pressure on you to score and every failure thereafter leaving you with fewer options...

more than lack of runs the signs that you are loosing it by day have started to appear like wide cracks on wall...

now you have started making statements that are not befitting to your stature...

remember that 'runs-per-ball' statement...?

next is what...

will you say that your 'timing' to get to wicket after wicket falls is intact?

no rahul no...

why you are putting yourself to so much of scrutiny...? why you are putting all the relentless efforts you have put for india on stake with each and every outing of yours...?

i know the desire is still burning inside you...and there's no lack of determination as well...

but if only desire and determination can make it for you...

kumble would be taking wickets...

more than for your determination to come good...chances are that by the time you will realize what's happening...you will be in danger of being remembered as the person who did not saw it coming...

and i fear that day...

and mind you it pains me a lot to even visualize that way...

...and i know...i am not alone...

Update: Breaking News
kumble has decided to hang-up his boots...wish luck to him...for his future endeavors...
more on him later...

Guess there will be atleast one more after the Eng series??

who will be next??

Dravid has been great for India but it looks like he is really struggling at present. So I think it is time he retires. Anyway I take the opportunity to salute Kumble for his great achievements.

Hi...what a day!

Today's visit was worth every bit.

Some good batting and Kumble's retirement. He's done it just at the right time...tomorrow people would have asked him to retire.

Dravid man looks in the same mould..

Nagpur is Dravid's second home - expect his retirement to come there.

I doubt Dravid can go back to his old ways. He has been playing way too losely and his game was always dependan on his defiance and patience. Doesn't look like he has that anymore. Sad to see the Wall falling down.

TRI...after eng series? do you really see him going that far?

straight point said...

welcome GB!

if only he pays attention to what now are murmurs...

as for kumble...i must join you in saluting him...

straight point said...

yes SB!...and irrespective of how he performs at nagpur...if he performs there... better for him...

straight point said...

very true Q...

all his energies is getting soaked into survival...he has tried everything...he came with set mind of blockng everthing one day and on another day overtly positive...

reaching out to deliveries he wont even sniff...or playing stroke by striding too far...everything...

and its saddens me to see him getting reduced to this...sincerely...

Trideep said...

SP,
I dont see anyone else going after Nagpur..

Yes, SP, ask the question. Why? Seriously, why? I don't know what has gotten into him. Most of you folks know I'm a huge fan and its very sad to see him like this.

Given that Kumble's hung his boot now, I won't be surprized to hear of another "out-of-the-blue" retirement.

straight point said...

tri...do you all of fab 4?

straight point said...

yes VM it pains me too...thats why i want him to score at nagpur so that he can go with chin up and smiling...

and thats the way i want to remember him... :)

Yes SP its desperate out there for Dravid. It's paining me to see him fail innings after innings. When he looked so good at Mohali in the first innings I thought he would go onto make a big one. But then he perished.

He can still stay long but don't seem to have it in him any more to score big. As I read somewhere, he scores most of his runs square of the wicket. That is a clear indication that his timing has deserted him. He is not sure at the centre.

I wish he plays one good knock (even a 50 from him would save my heart) at Nagpur and bids goodbye. I don't want to see India's best test batsman being subjected to the ignominy of being dropped.

my sentiments exactly NB!!

it really hurts...to see the class of dravid...at the mercy of selectors...

Pan,

Why?

straight point said...

haha OTT... liked it..

Anonymous said...

no doubt he has done tons for india. but everthing comes to an end. now it is his turn. we might have another news of dravid prior or end of nagpur test.....
this is the best way to say by-by...

straight point said...

yes SA...everything comes to an end...

as mahatama gandhi once said...

the only constant thing is change...

the best for dravid will be if he goes with head held high...and smiling...

Anonymous said...

saints avoid natural death (or murdered), they take "SAMADHI". in the crik language, if RD announces his retirement without anyone's aspiration, this is called "Samadhi". M I right PAN?
So, dravid should take "Samadhi"

straight point said...

SA...very nice analogy indeed!

Anonymous said...

It is being rumored that he will announce his retirement after the last test but in reality the chances are very bleak as India doesn't have his replacement as of yet.
"Kiya sab ko ghar bhejna hey"

I even don't want RD to go still.
but if it happens, virat, raina, pujara, badrinath etc are knocking the door.
if sr player are not making runs or taking wickets and we are giving them opportunity again and again only bcoz they have done very best in the past, that means we are loosing time and worth of the new comers.

but in the current circumstances, every player is scared about their self-resepct.

if i am not wrong, after kapil, we have heard about SG who announced retirement during playing cricket. otherwise selectors have not given any chance to the players to say bye with respect.

RS said...

sad to see Dravid struggle - but doubt he will retire at the end of this series - perhaps after the England series. I don't want all of them to go out in one shot - phase the replacements in...

straight point said...

wasim bhai...

if you are saying in terms of class then yes there is not replacement...

but if you see in terms of runs he is scoring...then i differ with you...

'jo darr gaya woh ghar gaya...' ;-)

straight point said...

yes SA...but then the players were to blame...not selectors... :)

straight point said...

RS...

though i agree with you in phasing out...but not at the cost of carrying anybody...with team...

if youngster have to earn his place...the same is applicable to players playing in final x1...

With increasing frequency, one thing that's becoming increasingly clear is:

for some among fab four, time is right to say adieus.

Why i think so:

Firstly, the energy is not there:

As an adage goes, you're old when you think you're.To a certain age(when a person is on the cusp), old or young; is a mind thing.

Secondly there are clear signs of waning reflexes:

Getting hurt on fingers, like Kumble, while fielding point to this.Young players do get hurt sometimes in fingers, but the frequency increases when player is less agile.

With Dhoni, emerging as a strong thinking captain for tests, the place for Kumble in the team was under extreme focus.

Kumble has done the right thing; That's why he's an intelligent guy.

Best wishes to him for the life after cricket.:)

i agree with every word of yours ab!!

nice to see you after a while... :)

Pankaj:

I agree with you he is going through a bad patch, but the problem is even with his current form he is still better than a few youngsters which were tried in the past few series, sooner or later he is going to retire and I think the time is not far away, but I think he should be wait until the next series.

Trideep said...

SP,

I didnt get your question?

Som said...

cracks all over the wall, bricks coming off one by one...wish he gets some runs in Nagpur at least.

Anonymous said...

RD wud bounce back......

straight point said...

I dont see anyone else going after Nagpur..

that's what you said TRI...and i couldn't get what you meant by 'anyone else'...hence the question...

straight point said...

wasim...dont take me wrong...am too a bg fan of his...but you cant ignore the bad patch which is running for a year...

and my genuine question is if he cant avert the decline for full one year...then how come it will be suddenly reverted now...?

straight point said...

welcome back som after a while :)

yes bricks are coming off and all he is doing is trying to hold on to it...which is pity for his stature...

straight point said...

buzzz...

though i too would like to see him score in nagpur...but if he scores it will be more of relief than him returning to form... :)

Anonymous said...

Dravid's last is nagpur...I don't see him being picked for his form in England. Might as well call it a day even though it is impolite to suggest so.

What do you reckon?

straight point said...

yes scorpy...i dont see him getting selected for end tour until unless he does a VVS at nagpur :)
