VRS...(we are ass)

shared by straight point on Friday, October 03, 2008

this should be the anthem of media...

they have forced often restrained and a man of stature like kumble to urge to show some respect towards seniors...

"We don't mind the scrutiny. If it's done rubbishly, and the way it's being portrayed, it hurts. If it's respectful it doesn't matter; everybody is scrutinised."

Anil Kumble lays down some media guidelines

look at the tone of foot note...anil kumble lays down some media guidelines...

that's some arrogance...to put it mildly...

bcci did what they wanted to...to create a reasonable platform of acceptance if they have to 'drop' any of the senior...and an indirect reminder for which they didn't had guts to put it directly to them...

to put it simply they used the media for it...

but what the hell media...thinking...while lapping up on it...

in their quest to have good trp they are falling on each other like anything...

what they don't understand is that we are not fools and this only alienate us from them...?

i sincerely believe that even a layman cricket fan don't believe in their sensational cricket reports these days...nobody with semblance of relation with brain...follows their what they call 'cricket analysis'...if some follows...i am sure its for comedy aspect of it...

what they don't understand in haste to air their opinions that it will do them world of good if they do it with some sanity...some responsibility...that if they put some mind into it which makes some sense they will automatically win over their target audience...

we that is...

and its not rocket science either...

but i guess they don't have time for it...in order to get some cheap eye-balls they are willing to stoop to any level...

it remembers me one of the siddhu quote...let me re-phrase it for you...

This media is like bicycles in a cycle stand one falls and the entire row falls!

on another hand a question is coming to my mind...

now, suppose if one of the senior retires after oz series...willingly...
will his decision be respected in same way?

who are we to snatch the right and dignity of that decision from them...?

SP - what will the media show without these bytes from anonymous sources?

They'll show:
Yuvi on 6X6
the world acc to SRT
SCG on the last two years

the role of media is of observer rather than of opinion maker...

what they are doing is stuffing their sensationalism in our head forcefully...and the words they use sometimes are very derogatory to the stature of man they are scrutinies...

they can be sensible without being sensational...

This is off-topic - why did the media get Kumble get away with this accusation?

guilt?

Media nowadays only run for money. They only want to show things which will fetch more money.. Otherwise y wud they show sehwag/bhajji ki 'ma', or y wud there breaking news be "big b ko thand lagi'

@ SP

I agree with you, they are acting more like as if they are running parallel selections; and to which the Cricket governing body should stick.

It's heartening to find this kind of post at Straight Points. As a future replacement to conventional media, we bloggers should act sanely which media unfortunately can't.

Like what one "I'm upright" news Channel was saying all day today.
As Rohit Sharma has slammed a century, they kept on saying all day today that Srikanth congratulated the cricketer to save face; for the cricketer was not included in the Test squad. As the test squad for India-Aus test series was selected prior to this game; all this is outright rubbish.

True, SP. I've also ranted on this. What sad is that NDTV has joined this crazy bandwagon - one of their reporters referred to the Test team as Dhoni's men. Get your facts right man! Dhoni isn't captain of this team!

SP: You connected VRS thing to We are.. ; I read VM's post at his blog and from there I go the connection.Initially I didn't gave much thought to the title.

Brilliant !

very right tri...

but wont they earn more money and respect if they win over target audience by being sensible?

straight point said...

yes AB!! the media spectrum is filled with such kind of over the top reports...

the race now is who is worst...?

and thanks for the title appreciation...

now i know how 'carefully' you read my posts... ;-)

how long the could have resisted the temptation VM!...

why use brain when you can have cheap eyeballs at drop of hat...?

SP, I don't know why you are all that surprised about that "footer."

These days if you explain something basic you get that exact response - who you trying to tell how to write? or stuff like that. It's the "attitude" which must count...surlier the better.

It percolates into every aspect of our lives. For instance, when I tried to ask the driver of the car who ran over my foot the other day (he was planning to get away but for the crowded area and people) what he was thinking of driving so fast that too in reverse gear in such a crowded, cramped lane, all he replied was are you trying to tell me how to drive? Are you some road-officer? (wonder what that means!)...young chap in early 30's he was...no hint of apology and plenty of threat in the stance he adopted.

That's the attitude we carry around and expres everywhere. To do things differently is almost unthinkable. The unconcealable insecurity of it all...what attitude you wear to hide!

straight point said...

you are right sb!!

this attitude has filtered in most of us...and i pity that...

i think we as society in general are frustrated lot and carry that mood to wherever we go and as soon as someone points out something...we get defensive and hide it by being offensive...rather than pondering over it...

but we must register our protests...

i still believe that there are good people who are still running the show...let them feel that they are not alone...

SP,

Surely more respect. But not money.. What portion of people are interested in actual news without the masala.. If they were huge.. then DD news wont be lingering somewhere in the corner. A major portion of the news viewers nowadays are those who are only interested in gossips. The media is only feeding them to feed itself.

Trideep said...

SB,

A very valid point..

Its a cruel place the world is becoming. The life is such nowadays that you have to fight for everything you want. Fight has become a part of life. And that is what the young are learning. Its sad.. But what can u do?

straight point said...

tri...

there is some difference between pathetically boring (DD) and being sensible... :)

and who says you cant be successful without being sensational...

even biggest stars flops while genuine efforts gets still noticed...

the number are few i know...but if we keep knocking...we will grow and then they will have to feed what we want...

cheers!!

Trideep said...

Spoken like an eternal optimist SP.

DD is boring coz its only facts.. no masala added to it.. its news as stated in books...

Success comes easy when u have sensationalism attached to it. TV channels fear of getting out of market if they stop creating the sensation.

yes i am tri... :)

sp,

well put. this days media is gone haywier and without any regulatory body they feel they can up or down nebody.

today its msd, yest it ws Ten and tomorrow it wud be smbody else.

they lack ethics, they lack responsibility, they lack vision....arrogance and irresponsiblity are the 2 words which can be attributed to the media of today

i remember how India TV ran the "Breaking news" on Bhajji and some actress (geeta basra i think) saying Bhajji caught kissin n doin "muh kala" with Geeta in a hotel at 12 AM in night and then the reporter gave the verdict -- Bhajji has no moral values :))

straight point said...

thanks buzzz...

as i said we must keep on registering protest...in whatever capacity as we can...and i am sure we wont be alone...will keep growing... :)

The selectors don't have any gut and are run by the mafia...behind it...it will take Indian cricket to the doldrums...this is ideal time to get youngsters in play the best team in the world at home...gain confidence and build for the world up....

too bad....there 5 spots taken....by the usuals...

SP,

may be the competition gets to the newspapers.

they have to have something that arouses our interest!

on the other note, seniors should be treated with dignity, and at the same time, the seniors should be making a dignified exit!

Very good post SP.

"now, suppose if one of the senior retires after oz series...willingly...

No, it won't be and that's after spending a decade at the crease for this country. I just wonder, where will the media hide if the older man pass out the series with flying colours? NDTV is the only channel that's worth money but when it comes to cricket even they fall short of professionalism.

straight point said...

that is it UTP...they did not have guts to talk to them directly so they used the media...

i just hope that this s vs j conundrum is resolved at its earliest coz its not helping anybody...

straight point said...

they should be treated with respect and allowed exit with dignity...no doubt about it ankit...

but for dignified exit dont you think it requires two willing parties?

and here's the catch...

straight point said...

thanks and warm welcome NB!!

yes NDTV has been reasonably restrained...and they initiate good debates sometimes...

but you cant expect anything when siddhu is on roll...don't you? :)

Balajhi said...

Sensationalism is the key word for 24X7 news channels, SP. From a business perspective only that helps them and draws people to their channels. But in the process they have forgotten the word 'sensible'.

I used to wonder how come some one like Prannoy Roy roped in Sidhu but then some choices can never be explained even by those who chose it.

straight point said...

very true NB!

but don't you think ppl will notice and eventually follow sensible, sane and responsible channel amongst the haze of cheap frills one...where you cant differentiate one from another?

Balajhi said...

People do SP but that I am afraid is a very small group. Otherwise these channels must have learned their lessons by now. When I CNNIBN came on stream I thought "here is a new channel with a different perspective and a good alternative to NDTV" but then months later I realised my mistake and reverted back to NDTV. There is not a single program that I like in CNNIBN but then it is a channel that is doing well despite all the sensationalism.

So in the end it seems there is some credence to the VRS story. It's really bad and sad.
