Srikanth's first musings as chief selector of india:
"S Badrinath, Rohit Sharma and a few others have the talent but it is not ability alone that makes a player tick at the highest level," Srikkanth told Deccan Chronicle. "Mental strength is critical and cannot be taught, it has to be within, and the likes of Sachin [Tendulkar], Rahul [Dravid] and Anil [Kumble] have shown the way over a good period of time. It will be important to groom the youngsters under them.
badri, rohit etc you will have your chances...but not now...this way you will get some much needed lessons in mental strength...till its at 'critical' level...
"An eye for the future is equally important. Hard decisions might have to be taken in the future. The current Test team is one of the best India has ever had and it will not be easy replacing them."
ganguly, you can afford to smile for a while...get your swan song ready...
PS: he's almost sounding so un-cheeka...

Give him time. This stuff sounds almost rehearsed. Wait for his candid disclosures.
Digs aside, Srikanth, if his stint as captain vs Pak is anything to go by, is a smooth operator.
yup...rehearsed is the better word...
but even then, i don't expect him to create stir with his first selection...
his selection will also be 'rehearsed'...
You are right it sounds un-cheeka like.
yea...OTT...look what 'pawar' does to a man... :)
I am trying to find a dialouge in which one says to other..
"Nothing happens by just speaking, If you want to do, do it silently. your work will be known by all"
Hmm, interesting. I did not expect this. Very un-cheeka like indeed. I shall save my anti-cheeka post I had planned for later. ;-)
I've commented somewhere about the imbalance selectors chosen on the basis of zones brings to the selection panel.
As whichever zone the chairman belongs gets an instant upper hand.
Even if most of the cricket playing nations have a similar model. Nations from Indian sub-continent need to evolve a more transparent model. For obvious reasons.
Cheeka is probably another puppet selected by BCCI... paid one too...
he sounds interesting.....he shud do a good job!!
On expected lines... and SP "look what 'pawar' does to a man... :)"... good one.
However, must wait and see. Perhaps he is waiting for his first month's salary to come in to confirm all the media statement on selector pay hikes :) and then pull the carpet.
very well said neno...!!
will wait for that VM!!
am already interested... :)
by that count AB...badri should definitely get selected?
i dont know try...i guess we all should adopt wait and watch policy here...
i dont know the interesting part buzzz...that was as predictable utterings as one can get...
but yes for the sake of indian cricket i do hope they do find job...
hohoho scorpy...that will be the ultimate scene i guess...
mind you he has every bit of required talent to do so ;-))
wasn't it srikkanth who headed the pitch committee that rolled out the green carpet for south africa to register its first series win in india?
hmmm...sumit...so going by s.manohar experience...he is eying for president post already?
;-)
I decode it differently SP - I hear Cheeka telling the talented ones to also play play and play a lot more so they can become mentally tougher rather than go soft playing ODIs and t20 and benching it up in test matches.
As far as the second part is concerned, he's tipped off the fab four and Kumble to get ready for the talks and discussions to plan out a retirement party.
so at least i got the second part right SB? :)
@ SP
Look Badri got selected
