no toll tax...

shared by straight point on Wednesday, September 24, 2008

there are few who enjoys the luxury of not having to pay toll tax...

and in cricket nobody enjoys it better than sachin...

before you feel...ah...here comes another sachin stinker...

you are missing point already...

he was at his peak form on oz tour...we all were gushing on the 'return' of tendulkar...we all carve for...he was aggressive...he was dominating...and yet so solid...one could see that he was determined to mark possibly the last oz tour as the tour to remember and he did exactly that...

i said possibly coz you never know... :)

then came the injury...but there was still some time left for next sa tour at home...and we were made to believe that it was a minor niggle...though physio report suggested just the opposite...

even tendulkar himself came out in media declaring he is fully fit for sa series and that he is raring to go...who can dispute god's stance...we all believed him...

but what we witnessed thereafter was totally contrasting...

he didn't fielded for better part of the day (correct me if i am wrong, i am saying from memory)...came out to bat scored duck...and poof came the confirmation that he is actually injured and wont take part for rest of series...

then came the tour of srilanka...what would have been any other tour was hyped coz of mendis menia...and what happened just before the series in asia cup final...

after struggling to put even one fifty in six innings there he picked injury again...like a
routine...and now he has skipped irani trophy match due to this...which is being played now...

i hope he gets fit again sooner than later but the point is not that...

how we would know, specially after sa fiasco, that he is fit...

how we would know that he is match fit and in some kinda form...

is test match with world champ is the right stage to judge whether he is fully fit...or if fit...is in form to justify the importance first test with world champ should get...?

why different yardstick for different players? does his runs count more than the exact amount of runs of another player...?

why he is never asked to show he is match fit...?

RS of anything sporty, the inspiration behind this post, has this to say:

As far as Sachin goes, it is the selectors who should force him to play 2 months of domestic cricket to prove his fitness... For him, the mind may be willing but the body is not.

what wrong you find with this...exactly?

tell me...

Eight years back I would have disputed what you've said. Not today. Today, Sachin's value to the team is not greater than Laxman's or Kumble's, and hence the same rules must apply.

I had commented yesterday on your last post that he is lucky. But it seems that our board (Indian Cricket Board)and selectors, even his fans always wanted to see sachin in squad, they don't bother on his performance.
Of course, he has done uncounted for cricket particularly for India. But everything comes to an end. What is the truth behind the incidence(s) god or sachin or selectors.

I am very happy, that our selecters and board still have faith in sachin, of course, me too that he has potential and is back bone of indian cricket...if he is even in the dressing room..encouragement in the other is there.

I would say injury and out of form of sachin is a coincidence... and sachin is lucky...May BCCI and selecters blessed him....always..

thank god i have written it today john... :)

yes same yardstick should be applied to every player...irrespective of stature...or have no yardstick at all...

SA...

i think BCCI should appoint him cricket consultant to team india then...if his presence in dressing room is so sought after...

he can sit all day along...and share his experience...without any hinderance...and stii gets paid for it...i have no problem with that..

but what we are talking about why...why on earth he should not be subjected to fitness routine every other player is...

whats harm in that?

PAN (SP)
when the whole family of cricket in the world treats sachin as GOD of cricket, this type of distinguish (Small) must be there between sachin and the others. After all he has done for cricket in tons....

SP - read this when Badri fell. And then Kaif went too.

And then I watched Aksah Chopra bat for barely 15 minutes. And read this interview at cricinfo

http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/magazine/content/current/story/370974.html

Frankly, Chopra exudes more positive enrgey and calm than all the big boys put together (esp after you read his interview)

Think he's on to something big.

And as for, like the "no toll tax" headline. It's a shame. But it's Sachin.

If I remember correctly, Sachin was ready to play the Irani Trophy. It was the Indian team physio who recommended that he pull out as a precautionary measure ( to rest his arm further).

Also, if I remember correctly, there is a camp at the NCA, starting the 29th or the 30th of September as a prelude to the Australia series where further assessments on the form and fitness of the players will be done.

the point still persists...is being mere fit enough? can match fitness be achieved by knocking some balls in nets?

is that so...then i don't have any problem...

Homer said...

okay SP -I will give you two sets of scores. These are runs made his season. Pick the person you think warrants the India cap ( ie - who is "match fit")

37,43,0

4, 42, 182.

homer does batsman's responsibility is only to score runs? he has to do lot of running for himself and his partner...

what about crucial runs leaked or catches missed which you would have done far better if you were fit enough...? why we call a player rusty despite him being fit?

Homer said...

but that does not answer my question...

straight point said...

mine too... :)

sp,
thanks for the mention. It is always Sachin isn't it? I am a bit concerned that the physio held him back for one more week (that does not give me the confidence that he is fully fit, though Sachin may genuinely believe he is fine). Since he is going to be part of the team, I hope he proves me wrong.

straight point said...

thanks RS...

though the signals emanating doesn't appear so...i would be more than happy to see fit and roaring SRT...

Homer said...

okay .. so let me answer yours - playing in a match does not necessarily mean that you qare going to get a definitive read on the match fitness of a person, especially when the match intensity is less than par.

Just like playing on a patta and scoring a triple hundred will tell you nothing about a person's ability to handle conditions on a bouncy or drying wicket.

Your turn..

Cheers,

straight point said...

for your Q...i have already explained you that scores doesn't tell the actual picture homer...so no point guessing...

neither we are talking about patta wickets and ability...for only a fool can doubt srt's ability...its the body friend...we are doubting...

we are talking about series with oz which is going by recent trends is going to be intense...patta wicket or not...

Homer said...

I am sorry SP, but I thought the initial article was about percieved double standards on how SRT is treated vis-a-vis other players - that somehow he can waltz into the team whenever he wants.

I responded to that by saying he was ready to play the Irani Trophy but was held back by the physio and that he will be subject to a physical, just like all others.

For this, you responded by saying that being fit is not enough, the person has to be match fit.

Fair enough.

So I gave you a string of 3 scores by 2 players and asked you who you think is the match fit person amongst the two - which of the two strings of scores made you believe the person is "match fit".

For this, you brought in things like "crucial runs leaked or catches missed " and "running for his partner"

For this my response was that "match fitness" cannot be judged by playing a match alone ( your original premise) if the match intensities are different, just like playing on a patta does not give you a good read on the batsman's ability to play on seaming or bouncy wickets.

Your response - "for only a fool can doubt srt's ability...its the body friend...we are doubting..."

So, we can either we can keep this dance going or you can answer my question and I can come to the moot point.

Cheers,

homer

i must say you are master at the art of picking and choosing what suits you...as you last comments suggest...

but as you said its already turning out to be a badminton match so...leave it...

for the curiosity to know your moot point i pick first option of 37, 43, 0

straight point said...

welcome neno after a while...hope you doing fine...

i will definitely have a dekho...

thanks!!

It Looks nice. SP.

Homer said...

and the reason for picking 37,43,0 over 4, 42, 182?

I mean, if I follow your argument correctly, we are talking of form here - all tangential issues like running for the partner etc are not evidenced in the numbers alone.

Cheers,

straight point said...

just coz you wanted me to pick the other one :)

isn't it like match fixing homer ;-)

Homer said...

The player you selected ( or rather the numbers picked) are Virender Sehwag's scores from the Md Nissar Trophy and the first innings of the Irani Trophy.

The other set of numbers belong to Akash Chopra.

If we went by the arguments put forth, Akash Chopra should be selected ahead of Sehwag because of proven "match fitness".

But that is not going to happen, no?

Cheers :)

now i know that whoever is match fit will go on to make century...

to put an end to this 'badminton match'... i thank you homer for enlightening me about fit and match fit terms...
