colossal failure

shared by straight point on Saturday, July 26, 2008

if you think this post is just about looser whining, ranting at its best filled with knee jerk reactions...then you guessed it right...this post is for you...

bowling...

wonder how india won when ishant was not there...now he is a must...he is living the curse of long tradition of india where every successful pace bowler have to bleed to stop bowling...

so ishant you too have to play till the time your legs refuse to move an inch...your fingers not able to hold ball...and eventually even your lungs refuse to breath...

kumble and harbhajan...lets get one fact very straight...you are not going to get designer wicket anywhere...but in india...so either drop yourself from away tours...or show us that you still have it in you to get wickets in these 'patta' pitch where a rookie and an old craft can still run your thru your side not once but twice...

a side boasted by batsmen who have collectively scored more than 50k international runs!!

batting

let me repeat...

a side boasted by batsmen who have collectively scored more than 50k international runs...famed as masters of playing spin gets bundled out not once but twice on a wicket which looked like was prepared to kill test match...by your bowlers...

please let BCCI know in advance from next match onwards what type of wicket should be prepared which will inflate your records as well as egos...and BCCI with all its 'power' will make it sure all boards succumb to your wish...

sehwag...you are very lucky that you are playing international team...coz if you were playing in my school team our coach would have smacked your face so hard that it would have taken at least a month to get your one hand off your one side of your face...

dk...what more can be said about your stroke and keeping...perhaps it would be fittingly enough to say that coz of player like you dhoni can well afford his leaves...sitting...no waiting pretty...

rahul...believe me it pains us to see you getting reduced to a plodder...you are neither securing one end nor you are scoring...you are looking like a batsmen who is bored to death of cricket who is just going thru motions and i am really and increasingly afraid that by the time you will realize that those images of 'the wall' at one end is fast fading like a mirage...it will be too late...

gaguly sir...it was you who kept that 'tongue' career floating in oz...and here you had to face murli and mendis...just too much to your liking...only you lived upto my expectation..

smarting from my last experience i wont write anything negative about sachin...so you can fill in your own rants here...

i will only say to those many who after asia cup final were whining how sachin's presence would have made the difference...must have got their answers now...

well played srilanka...well played...thanks for breaking some myths of our mastery of spins...

though i am still wondering that if your spin combination was that leathel...or our batsmen capitulated brilliantly...

never mind...two more matches to go you will find ample opportunities...

oh...have you heard our ODI bachchas chuckling...no?

credit to Murali and Mendis...too...other than the fact that yes even the greats were overwhelmed with quality spin from both ends...

straight point said...

thats the thing UTP...it will take at least a match to let us know whether our batsmen were overwhelmed or they bowled brilliantly...

i think bit of both though...

saf would've played lanka better. few teams in world cricket would've been knocked off twice - even eng would've taken it to the fifth day. This is a collective failure, the fear runs thru the batting. and all that fake agression is just to mask the fear. they smell the end. as does msd. he called this one brilliantly by sitting out.

straight point said...

exactly garav. fear is the word...

or how you could explain just 88 over of spin needed to get them bundled twice in a match bowled by two bowlers...not funny...

Gaurav Sethi said...

88 did you say, looked like they were bowling to two fat ladies.
honestly seemed a lot less. be fun to see the focus diverted on coach again.

straight point said...

when opposition team looks like ready to be laid...the number of overs bowled are mere formality gaurav...

for kirsten...poor chap...he would not have expected this performance(?) even in his wildest dream...

RS said...

sp - spot on - and the ODI bachchas are chuckling :-)

you left out Gambhir in your rant? I expected some fight from someone in the second innings.

straight point said...

when the stalwarts didn't had clue what more you can expect from a person who is not even bachcha in front of them RS?

still he did not disgraced himself than his pedigreed colleagues...

Some sharp words there, SP. You've spared Sachin this time, though I think this one deserved a bigger rant that your earlier one. (OK, again, knee-jerk from me as well). I still think it's fear - wonder if the story would have been different if India batted first or didn't have to chase 600. Shall we blame Kirsten too? ;-) From SA, the most spin-feared of the lot.

Picture abhi baqi hey merey dost!
Lets hope that they bounce back in the second test.

It seemed that Indian team was still in T20 or Odi mode everybody looked in a hurry to score runs.Several batsmen got out playing typical Odi shots.
They will not read Mendis properly unless they focus on his grip.

Indian bowlers were unimpressive. Ishaant can't get his length right I think the selectors made a blunder by not selecting Nehra.

Dhoni is one lucky... isn't he.

Q said...

Come on guys, u are being too harsh... only a few months ago these senior batsmen nd bowlers were winning you tests matches in Australia, England, and the Windies and against Sa and pak at home.. 1 bad match and u can't start saying that they shouldn't be around...

Lanka played well... surely India will bounce back.. 1 bad match doesn't spell the end for anyone..

VM

i did not want to deflect the main motive of this post by writing -ve about sachin...coz then everybody would have just talked about him and purpose of this post would have been defeated...

straight point said...

wasim...definetly picture abhi baki hai...it remains to see which way it will end... :)

though i don't agree with you on nehra;s selection...we have already have enough softies in zahir and munaf...

straight point said...

dhoni is not lucky he is smart...

straight point said...

Q...

88 over of spin and team gets bundled twice...88 overs constitutes just one day of play!!

when a team boasting to be only after oz in tests gets out twice on a pitch which didnt had any demons in it...in largely a day...don't you think it should be severely condemned?

Anonymous said...

SP

I think it's wise to take advantage of a bowler's form, in IPL Nehra was the most impressive Indian fast bowler, Ishaant and RP since that Australian tour have not impressed anyone, Zaheer, Munaf and Nehra for me are a better choice for Asian grounds.

Q said...

Yes condemned I agree. But not demanded to be replaced :-)

straight point said...

nehra even at his prime barely lasted a series distance...thats the worry wasim...

and when a performance in T20 (where you now you have to bowl just 4 overs) makes you eligible for as bis as test recall...?

straight point said...

Q...did you say call for replacement from me...? please elaborate...

Q said...

SP, Im talking about the general reaction of the Indian fans who have been talking about dropping the seniors...

straight point said...

Q...thats how most of s are :)

bt jokes apart...i bet anything less than drawing this series...and you will see at least one slot in middle order...yes middle order...is out for grab...

Q said...

Lets c SP. I still think its too early.

Anonymous said...

Agree. If we have to bowl without a wicket we can have anyone in our team. If we have to score zero or 10-12 anyone can make. in both the cases we don't require zaheer, kumble, HB and SRT,VS,SG,RD etc. We need players who can bown and bat according the pitches.....
Great to read you again PAN

straight point said...

you wanna replace all SA? or you wanna say that if they are scoring this low...even our yougsters can score that much too...

great to see you after a while...

Rob said...

I love it when fans get mad (I do a fair but of it myself). Have they a chance of a come back?

straight point said...

we love it too rob ;-))

BTW...nice to see you here after a while...keep coming...

Well played Lanka first off, and now on to India...

Didn't see the game live and in any continuity but through highlights.

Why wasn't Amit Misra there and playing?

Never in favour of Kumble for Lanka because they were the ones who consistently played him well and uravelled him (De Silva), but he is skip, so I guess he had to tour.

It is possible in due time we will see a great miscarriage in the form of birthing Piyush Chawla as the replacement for Kumble into the team...if any of the selectorial donkeys so caught up by the Chawla-baby's winsome, cherubic assets are even half awake to what Terry Jenner has recently said on TV on Chawla and others, they could avoid this unmitigated disaster waiting to happen. Confirmed what I've always felt of Chawla baby.

Amit Misra should have been playing NOW.

If Jenner pi$$es them off (though why it should I do not know for he is coaching around in these parts currently as a guest or something), then they could take a clue from Lanka's Mendis effort.

Wait, look for the right spinner, even if he doesn't fit the profile of a young f@rt ready for the Ruffles and Lays labels but an older hardworking soldiering simpleton from the army....he must have the skills of a spinner first and variety. Misra has, Piyush doesn't and Kumble's fast losing whatever he had. But Vengsarkar will have to remove those pink/colored glasses which tend to bias him in favour of Chawla.

Ishant will learn.

Zak+Kumble+Harbhajan = head+body+limbs of bowling experience in India = bowled like brainless eeediuts. Hopefully, Ishant will not like them. He needs rest? He should have said so.

DK screwed up big time and loses my test vote for him. You all know I pushed that article hard at one time...bloody manufaturing defects pop up when they shouldn't.

I'm trying to find charitable words for the bats....this will take a little more time...be back later when I'm done looking.

Gaurav Sethi said...

sb, the highlights were the whole game.

Soulberry said...

So I didn't miss much! :) Hi Gaurav?

Gaurav Sethi said...

Hey sb, you could post yr first comment here on TCWJ.

straight point said...

you made my day SB!! how badly i was missing you...

ishant will learn provided he doesn't get injured...

i want to see mishra / ojha bowling and see what worse they can do...

if we don't restrict sri lanka to 350ish score our batsmen will be thoroughly and severely tested...

so i am sensing that one spot in middle order will be open for grab once this series gets over...

what say?

straight point said...

hahaha Gaurav...spot on...!!

Soulberry said...

Gaurav bhai...I'm giving TCWJ a rest for a while. That doesn't prevent me from reading and commenting!

There is too much happening in cricket at the moment...seminal, and perhaps terminal, warfare of sorts and changes and stuff like that....too much for me to keep track of and keep an opnion about at the moment.

I read and comment and that's also blogging!

PAN
I want to say about their responsibility. They looked non-serious about their game than the player who is struggling to make his position.

Anil Singh said...

Most of the times, I find SP's posts very readable and I agree with what he says.
But that is always not the case, sometimes people agree to disagree. But not today.
I just want to add one thought. I don't know what others feel and to what extent I'm correct, but I think as a replacement to a wicket keeper in Indian Test squad, Parthiv Patel is a better option than Dinesh Kartick. I'll not be commenting on the former's batting skills,as I lack the required repertoire to assess that, but he seems more professional and disciplined in his approach towards the game. To me he seems to be a player who can be accommodated in the Test squad, atleast.

straight point said...

AB!

its natural that we disagree sometimes...until unless we do take it personally...

i am open to other opinions too coz it carries the debate fwd and gives it a meaning...so always be open to air your view...

regarding parthiv's inclusion i think he will have to wait till 3rd test...if DK doesn't improve i.e.

though you have a point that he will be more eager to grab the chance as this is the only opening he will get till msd decide to join the rank...

straight point said...

oh i meant don't take it personally...typo error :)

whatsoever but picture says whole story.

Indians fail to prepare themselves

straight point said...

thanks hitesh...

While Murali & Mendis were rightly hailed, I think the Lankan batters didn't get what they deserved. It was after they put up a run mountain that the bowlers buried the Indians under it. Lankan batters put enough runs on board to have the Indian on the back foot before unleashing M&M. It was such a good team effort from them.

Anonymous said...

harbhajan is a waste in the team, and like most of us, you failed to take a dig at him too...

i think zak is a better bowler than what was on display in this match.

ishant's good. ( i was scared for him with his state in the ODI's and all)

and the bachas shouldn't be chuckling, i think they better start preparing for the coming ODI series, but then what can possibly prepare them for murli and mendis.

and a special mention for gambhir.
he played well.

straight point said...

sri lanks played well no doubts SOM...but what about us...

its was as spineless as one can see from a team which is looking for to be second only to oz if not better them...

straight point said...

i did not spare bhajji...ankit...its only that i think both kumble and bhajji were equal culprits so i took dig at both of them together... :)
