KING, he wont be...

shared by straight point on Saturday, April 12, 2008

Fans and expert around world looking at you with doubts in their mind...whether you are good for test match level...

god send you an opportunity by first making room for you at the expense of injury to a senior guy...then by giving you wonderful platform to prove your metal...

two quick wickets...to almost unplayable balls...the stage is set...

you come to crease with an opportunity to cease the moment for your advantage...for once and all...coz if you succeed from here it will go a long way in eradicating those existing hanging doubts...

you get start...on difficult pitch...

things start to look relatively easy...after a while...

to the point that opposition looks at your mercy as you are not only getting runs but at good pace...

then what you do...

to their delight, give the initiative back to them on platter...

confirming that between great and good player...you choose to be later...

yes guys...i am talking about one and only...yuvraj...

who is resolutely, stubbornly sticking to being THE YUVRAJ (prince)...when he can be the KING...

mindBLOWING!!??!!

PS: the post was written when yuvi got out...but later as one would have found...dhoni too seemed more than eager to give company to his vice captain...which culminated perfectly with chawla's shot...

Yuvraj- is he still a Yuva raj?
Seems to me he is Prince Charles - over 50 and still a prince.

that is it...OTT...

when will he grow...

ya!SP, it was really an wonderful opportunity for Yuvi to prove his worth. But not succeeded. He should calculate in what conditions he was given chance...anyway best of luck for yuvi and appreciation to SP for this post....

lol SA :)

The calculation would come if he has some experience in doing so besides the urge.

I haven't watched the match today, and will catch the replay later tonight, so my comments would be based on your reports and text commentary.

The most frustrating aspect of Yuvraj is that he himself has eschewed practising his longer game in domestic cricket. He has chosen to travel with a weakness/ignorance rather than pause to remove that and then move forward again. He has given more importance to the "chalta hai" attitude as long as he has one version of the game covered. That is galling.

But, I must say that I am surprised he scored as many runs on this pitch. It could be perhaps because SA lacked a spinner other than Harris, who couldn't have bowled all the time to him.

Plunge spin at both sides...any quality...at him on this kind of pitch and he may not have scored as many runs.

Dhoni has performed to the average he is capable of. But I must see the quality of his batsmanship here before commenting further...

SA are in the driver's seat.

spot on sp.
ottyan - seriously funny. But with his mentor still the prince, he may just be the Little Prince, tho not half as wordly or cricketingwise as that character. To me, he's still a Prince Harry.
sb -urge overkill.
that shot will kill you; and think, "now where have i see that before?"

I guess he prefers to remain the Clown Prince, fooling around at point, in party and celebrations. Almost obscenely talented, Yuvi stubbornly refuses to mature and remain very much the man who could have been the king. You think Dhoni's rise to ODI and Twenty20 captaincy could have affected him anyway?

SB

you got it absolutely right...he surprisingly got runs on this turner relatively comfortably...but that shot, given the circumstances was foolish...as was dhoni's...

NC

absolutely right...urge overkill !!

Q

even i was advocating for his inclusion...

something tells me that we will see both yuvi and kaif playing together in a test not that far in future...

som

you hit the nail on its head...he wants to be seen that way...

this attitude has already cost him captaincy...and mind you it hurts a lot from inside when you see a man much junior to you goes ahead with the cap...though i doubt he will show it...

SP, I dont c that happening for another 1-2 years - the middle order of the big 4 seems to be doing well.

1-2 years is quite a big time specially in subcontinent...and anything can happen...

I know SP, anything is possible in the subcontinent. But honestly barring injury i dont c Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly, and Laxman going anywhere for next 1-2 years.

The same can also be said about Dhoni and his batting at the test level.

yes scorpy...

as you would have noticed i blamed him too...

but i blame more yuvi coz the guy has 8 yrs experience and would know these facts better...

also i rate yuvi far better bat than dhoni...
