We want Justice!!

for the bowlers i.e.

IPL is about quarter complete...though there is no doubt it has been a success...

but its also a fact that there were only two close matches so far...

the sixes and fours are being hit almost on demand...and its already getting monotonous...

while our first wish was to retain original boundaries of the ground so that hitting sixes and fours becomes more of skill than norm...

we are getting more greedy...

so here we suggest/mute following changes...

  1. batsmen should retire after scoring 50

  2. one premium bowler should be allowed 6 overs...which they should declare at the time of toss...to balance things out...

let your imagination run guys...give us more...

ya sp-agree. want one more change. every player should be given two overs to make runs. if he gets out, let some some deduction from total score. and who make max run or take max wickets out of two teams, should be rewarded MOM.

two overs to make runs...SA !!???

i think its taking things too far...wired i would say... :)

SP, we used to play indoor cricket with 'one drop one hand' catch rule, which means you can take a "catch" even after the first drop (and before the 2nd drop), provided it's taken single-handed. I think time is ripe to put that into use.

don't waste everyone's weekend with the rc and mi games. Instead makes RR play a t20 game against each other. Warne captains one and coaches the other.

Bowlers like McGrath, Warne, Kumble, Asif have shown that good bowling can restrict batsmen.

I reckon the bowlers have to become smarter and pick up their games. Maybe learn a trick or 2 from the names mentiond above.

Remove bowling restriction - bowlers should be able to bowl as many overs as their captain wants. That should even out the pro-batsman bias.

SP, I'm stealing this idea from you and moving it to mine, when I find time. :)

Allow more than one bouncer an over, probably 3 at max.

Asif and McGrath is the most lethal combination of bowling in IPL...

Just push back the boundaries to their original diameter and things will be very different.

But you must remember, this is a specific format...just like the modifications would also make it...just another specific format till ennui sets in there as well.

The viewers being catered to are slightly different. My aged mother is quite enjoying the sixes and IPL action. She has better idea of team standings than I and many more details which I have missed. She updates me when I return home.

IPL has replaced her daily soaps and makes her clap her hands in glee whenever a 6 is hit or a wicket is taken rather than all that sadness with the stupid soaps of treachery, betrayal and everything mean in mankind.

SB!!

T20 is the launch pad cricket need to be global sport...and its definitely converting viewers into fan as is yours respected mother...and must say mine too, besides she is smart she catches all soaps action in afternoon ;-))

all i wanted to highlight that if hitting sixes and fours becomes routine affair than it will stall...hence the suggestions...

Yes, it does stale...the same thing spread over 50 overs becomes a classic innings.

My mom, well over 70, now knows who Mahroof is! And that he is from Lanka!

It's a bit like when astroturf came into hockey and the rules of the game were changed to favor speed.

Hocket became boring then initially, till players learnt to mould basic skills of grass to the pacy astroturf.

Now, I'm certain that if you were to watch hockey on natural turf, it wouldn't be all that exciting, unless players are adept at playing on it. It will appear like a slo-mo replay.

Something similar is happening in cricket.

I think your suggestion of pushing the boundary back to normal will solve most of the problems and make it a more even contest. At least mishits will not go for six or four.

Then, there could be a limit on the amount of wood in the bats. Heavy ones make it easy for even an edge to go for a six over the keeper's head!

Straight Point said...

yup SB!!

my heart breaks when i see miss hits going for fours and sixes...

but as you said it...i am sure the game will evolve and become more even and interesting....

and no helmets or vital protection gear for the batsmen... let' see who will have the courage to take a wild swing.

i can already see some batsmen fainting by just thinking of it ;-))
