Some Gandhigiri and 'Brutal' Sehwag

shared by straight point on Friday, March 28, 2008

first of all let me try some 'Gandhigiri' here...

thanks to DD who thinks that test matches are of no 'national importance'...so we are privileged to see india playing some timbaktoo in an ODI but...

thanks to my cable tv guy...who just recently showed most explosive and most enthralling ODI series between SA and Bangladesh live on neo...but....

if you are feeling my sentiments (and frustration) than please send them a flower...from my side....they need it...

thanks in advance!!

back to sehwag...

apart from this is fastest triple hundred in test cricket history...

apart from he is only third batter other than sir don bradman and lara to have scored triple century more than once...

apart from the fact that his last 10 centuries are all above 150 (a feat achieved by no one in the history of test cricket)

apart from he has individally scored more than 250 in a day (highest being 273, when denis compton scored 273 in 1954) ...source cricinfo...

the most interesting aspects of sehwag's tripple hundred marathon innings ...to me...was how sehwag scored that crucial single after every big hit or two...

since i was following the match by cricinfo live commentary...there were numerous instances when sehwag scored a boundary or two followed by 'the single' ...

the way he was batting and the mood he was in he could have easily given in to the temptation of going for another...how he controlled that temptation and cooled himself off at non striker's end is something new to me as far as sehwag's approach to this innings goes...

watch out bowlers around world...its not only brutal force you have to cope with...but now you have to also cope with cool and calculated brutal force...he wont give it too easily...

once again congrats sehwag!! congrats india!! and congratulation to all cricket fans across world!!

but don't forget to send a flower...

cheers!!

hahaha....cable ppl are just too much..:). yeah it was great knock from veeru...:). lets hope he carries on like this in one-day as well...and dhoni supports him...it seems dhoni is doing ganguly act...such as favouritism....:)

lets not loose prospective in this once-in-a-life-time knock...

actually to be fair to dhoni...sehwag asked that treatment for himself in ODIs...

other than that jst enjoy while it lasts...

Bravo SP for the Gandhigiri. It is a shame India has been deprived of this effort and likely to miss more tomorrow.

My own cable was up and down...it's gone now again so no replay.

Sehwag played a perfect innings...no slap-dash here. This is perhaps the most composed and purposeful innings I have seen...and alert too. Picked the gaps...let's just say this is the best Sehwag has ever played. If the ball rose in the air...it was merely seeking the boundary. he ran the singles, stole two's even as he was cramping...perfect defence and respect for the ball...in complete control of the game and his own mind. Not a single shot of frustration.

This was worth watching and also by all who call him Slogwag in derision.

He wasn't brutal today actually...he was just perfect...a bit like Gandhigiri...it is polite, simple yet hits hard.

never mind...you were one of those privileged one...even if you saw in bits...

you captured the essence of my post very beautifully...though he was maintaining more than 100 strke rate yet this was his most controlled and assuring innings...

lets hope we see more like this...bowlers beware...

NC...

did you saw it live??

SP, telecast was scrambled thru the day - ie a blank screen with a half assed msg. in spite of that, watched him get to a hundred, and assorted other buggery. Soulberry got it spot on there. Something's happened to Sehwag, he's grown older, wiser, and kinkier.

yes NC!!

his last century saved the day for india down under...now this innings has placed india to the position where they can think of win...what more he needs to do prove that he is one of the greats and best opener india produced after gavaskar...

and yet we don't realise his true worth...

I udnerstand your frustration
its really regret to know that DD is now telecasting our own game and we have to depend on other media to see the highlights even.

Now Sehwag, he is really a great guy that is why is in the company of two Sir Bradman and Lara..it is I think his one of the mixure of patient and impatient innings, he played ever.
