That is what I think.

Indian sub-continent was subjugated for more than 200 years by light skinned people, merely for the last 60 years we are free people. Technically this means only one generation has experienced the taste of liberty.

So we're still in the colonial hangover, as the memories of two century long subjugation is still with us. Either through folklores or genetically.

A few examples would suffice,

The recipients of titles like padmShree, and so on still wish to flaunt the titles and majority of them use them before their names like a Dr.
Its right for other person to call the recipient padmshree so and so, but why use it in letter heads and name plates.
But as Raja, Rai Bahadur, Diwan and so on, the colonial titles are still with us, recipients of state awards want to be addressed with titles.

Another example comes from a popular expression used by people in north India. It gees like this when parents think their ward is behaving too stubbornly or becomes too rigid with his demands; parents react by saying "Bada lat sahab ban raha hai" (You are behaving just like a Lord Master). Lat is the debased word for Lord.

We still define an officer with light skin. In north India people often say "so and so person looks like an officer, fair, tall ..."

So our society still measures good traits from British perspective. So when someone achieves something big, he tries to copy the mannerisms, opinions and perspectives of the colonial masters.

Aleem Dar and party represent our society. Like us when they hold elite positions they behave like a white with a brown skin.Anil Singhhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03730693158313605630noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9153707640015765540.post-8097446151267498042008-11-07T23:48:00.000+05:302008-11-07T23:48:00.000+05:30SP, As u said, Aussies will never be held responsi...SP, As u said, Aussies will never be held responsible.Trideephttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02039683101593206689noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9153707640015765540.post-80313954427311985282008-11-07T23:26:00.000+05:302008-11-07T23:26:00.000+05:30@ SoulYou're making a valid point Soul. I mean the skin color here for it is a fact that color has played an important role in directing cricket and it is convenient in discussion to refer to them explicitly]

I understand the white men when they take umbrage to Gavaskar's utterances for he exposes them relentlessly. Often when you have to uncover filth, you are bound to have some stick to you as well...but that's a hazard you accept to live with for the larger cause.

Make no mistake, like it or not, even today, different standards apply to players purely on the basis of color. And oh, there are three minimum colours - white, black and brown...and believe it or not, there is plenty racism between black and brown as well.

We can expand on this...Soulberryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15830619858224129215noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9153707640015765540.post-29393047059906671702008-11-07T19:40:00.000+05:302008-11-07T19:40:00.000+05:30very dapper looking homepage SP.
